- Including an appearance from a confused man called James who thought he had to audition for us!
MATT: / unnamedculprit | TOM: / tomscottgo
The camera is a Fujifilm Instax Mini 90.
I really want to know how James audition went.
I was hoping he would show up in the comments
dawkinsfan41 Well, he probably doesn’t watch Tom or Matt because he would’ve recognised them if he did.
They need to put up posters all over the area.. "James did you get the part? Sincerely the RUclips guys from the park bench."
Test
Poorly
I hope James did well at his audition
Good luck, James!!
Same from me
Thanks
Matt Gray: a Large man with Large pockets.
Good luck James
I love that you slowed down the footage to highlight the robin, but did not mute the audio of you coordinating your moves for the slow-mo fight. The “magic” of RUclips, ruined forever...
pssst, i think they slowed it down to show the 'subtle' coordination on purpose
I liked it
Wasn't that fun?
Tom realizing "photoshop" won't work while Matt is still talking is the best moment of this video.
I wonder if when a Star Wars trailer is released a few years from now it will just pop up in massive text. 'Starring James'. He is so big a star he doesn't need a surname.
Good luck James
spider: James is so big a star that he is starring in STAR wars... was that intended, or was it just a random movie that popped into your mind? :D
In the short time he was in this video I grew a great affection for James and a genuine hope for his audition to go well.
I was rewatching this video and would just like to say my affection and hope for James has been rekindled.
@@_Dawson_ This is possibly the best follow-up comment I've seen
@@JJRicks Thank you. Your reply has prompted me to watch this a third time. I can confirm once more that my affection lives on.
What kind of auditions do you get in a park? Sounds dubious
Sounds really dubious. I hope "audition" isn't a euphemism! It reminds me of this quote from Stephen Fry from an episode of the BBC Radio 4 panel game Just A Minute:
"There's a very sweet story of Alan Bennett who was walking in the Heath, taking notes, thinking, you know, composing his plays and so on. And someone came up to him and said 'have you got a light?' And he said 'no I don't smoke'. And the fellow went 'oh okay' and looked at him and walked away. And then Alan suddenly realised he'd been propositioned so he called after him 'but thank you!'"
Well, he was in a park, it obviously has something to do with a camera, could it perchance be photography?
@@donaloflynn Dont get any of the references. Please help.
@@RIPToot What references? My comment is self-explanatory.
@@donaloflynn Who is Alan Bennett. What is heath. What do you mean composing his plays.
Just imagining Tom jamming to mans not hot made my day
Two plus two is...eh...
Minus one it's...probably more than two.
Vague maths.
hotelmario510 😂😂😂
I feel like Tom and Matt Parker doing a Vague Maths parody video could have a genuine viewership...
I tell him Matt's not wrong
Matt's not wrong
Brady said "That magic square is invalid"
I said Brades - MATT'S NOT WRONG
Timestamp?
This is gonna be dark but the final selfie of the both of you looks like a photo a news channel would use in a special segment when talking about victims of an accident or bombing or something: "Matt and Tom were young men, carefree and with bright futures ahead, but little did they know, they were heading for tragedy in the Park Robin incident of 2018. I'm Jill Newslady, for Non-Existent News."
Akshay Anand That was... Incredibly dark.
But like, I can see it.
Actually, they would say either "Gray and Scott" or "Matthew and Thomas" and I don't know which one is weirder.
Matthew and thomas were murdered by james the ripper after being lured to a fake audition.
Pluto : *_plot twist_*
“Little did they know- that James was Daft And Danger *or name of show*”
Good luck james you sounded really polite
These vlogs are so nice. Seeing you two just talking on a park bench has comforting feeling that life won't change too much when I get older (18yo college student). I'll still have friends and we'll hang out just as casually as this and seeing new purchases as time stamps. Also I love how Tom jams to Manz not Hot and how Matt said "I..am and 'adult' now so I can buy things!". This is like grown up version of Mister Rogers Neighborhood to me. Have fun with the camera Matt!
It will be the same until everyone is married. After they have kids, no one will have time.
This is the greatest missed opportunity of all time. You could have had James audition for something... and then he could become moderately internet famous.
I walked past Matt in a tube station this morning. I almost said hi before remembering he has no idea who I am.
Will Deutsch I'm sure he wouldn't mind or be surprised about a random person saying hello.
You were carrying a display or monitor and I was with my family... I was just amused by my brain knowing who you were before the context of only ever having seen you on RUclips. For a split second my brain was like - there is your friend Matt go say hi!
They've said in a previous episode of park bench that that's fine as long as you mention where you know them from. Simply walking up to them and taking like you've known them for years...not so good!
@@andymcl92 a bit late to ask, but mind linking that?
(I'll edit this with the link if I find it)
Good luck for the audition, James! Or as we say in France (because we don't wanna jinx it), "break a leg" ! :-)
(to be honest I believe that works in English too? I think I've heard it used at some point...)
The Cheaterman that is in fact the correct phrase in English too
and serbian
Yup, it comes from the curtain being opened each time for continued applause, operated by a leg sidestage. The idea is that the audience will be clapping for so long, they'll have to open the curtains for an extra bow so many times that you'll break the leg.
I heard a french way to say break a leg is 'merde', because horses and carriages used to wait for theatre patrons to leave. If they were clapping for a long time, the horses would be waiting for longer, and there would be more merde on the street when it's all over :)
Especially in theatre
Ashley Feawen wait, really?
My mate found a floppy disk in a bag he was using the other day. The worrying thing is that he was born after floppy disks were obsolete. I think that bag must have had a more interesting life then me!
i like the "no really dont shake it - if anything it makes it worse" in the tags
How did you see the tags?
"Actual Instant Photo Camera." Versus a proverbial instant photo camera?
No, versus a theoretical instant photo camera, duh.
I was a "instant photo camera" that was digital, and you could apply filters before it printed
The literal ones didn't sell well.
Sure it wasn't an imaginary instant camera?
versus an App?
James! How did the audition go?
I hope james found his audition
11:30 "...Prices will f*cktuate..."
"2+2 is ehh..."
-Tom Scott
Especially enjoyed the subtle "put your arm down", touch on the arm there. Well played.
...the robin stole my heart
very aesthetically pleasing video
It's been 3 years and we still don't know how james' audition went
I would also watch a RUclips Channel called "Vague Maths". Maybe park bench with Matt Parker?
I like that idea!
This is honestly so cute
Both the picture of them just being happy friends, and how excited Matt is about his camera
Aw James. Hope he found the audition spot eventually
Good luck, James!
Man, we need to get this video to James! He deserves the support!
The photos are aesthetic as hell.
I could swear at the end there that Matt asked Tom "Would you like a hand job?"
WE ***NEED*** to track down James and find out how the audition went (or even if he ever found them)
i appreciate tom's tight-fisted, scared grip on the mic
Hope James got the part.
Matt looks so happy about his instax camera, that's sweet! :)
I got my teenage daughter one of those brightly coloured instax cameras for her birthday a few years ago and she really learned the value of setting up to take a good photo. Every photo she takes now looks great, it was really educational for her. She has a great eye cos she grew up often going out with her mom to take photos on walks.
_Good luck James!_
That speeded up end made me laugh out loud! Love your robin.
When they said 'Good luck james' all I thought to say was' for England James' :D
i hope James got his Audition ;)
I enjoy watching these two talking about stuff in general, wholesome vibes :)
We need to get Matt into shooting 8x10's, then he won't feel like those little instant film things are all that expensive.
It won't seem bulky either. I haven't had the chance to use large format camera's, but the handful of medium format ones I've used aren't particularly small and the film isn't particularly cheap.
7:10 a nice, coordinated thank you
When figuring out the cost per shot, don't forget to count the cost of the camera and lens. You'll have to take 30,000 pictures on your $30,000 Hasselblad to get the cost per shot down to $1.
Now I'm compelled to try to calculate how many photos I've taken since I splurged on my midrange Nikon five years ago. I suspect I got the cost down to $1 per shot two years ago.
I got a really nice ink-free instant camera. I thought "amazing, it'll save me money" then I realised it uses thermal paper. Thermal paper is expensive!
AceRidesBikes cash registers use thermal paper! It's bloody cheap! Haha 🍄💋🍄💋
not the colour stuff
Black and white instant photo! Even cooler!
It's not really an instant camera, isn't it? It takes a picture with a digital camera and then prints it on the paper IF you want.
I told ya Matt's not hot. She said "take off your jacket." I tell her Matt's not hot, never hot.
Good luck to James, 2+2= something - vague maths, and blurry lighty bits.....this is why i love this channel XD
You explain disposable cameras, but not floppy disks. 😂
What really messed with me is Tom making a reference to Big Shaq, then realising the video is posted four years ago
I like that the ending features the jogger AND the robin :D
Give your lighty blurs a fancy name and take them to the Tate.
I went to Alexandra Palace today because of the Park Bench episode you filmed there; I had a lovely time; thank you, Matt and Tom.
Good luck, James.
Matt Grey's Large Pockets.
Thank you for highlighting the robin during the fast forward bit.
The image quality of this video is insane, it makes my laptop screen seem like a window.
I hope James had a successful audition
I grew up in Rochester, New York, the home of Kodak (and the birthplace of the dearly-departed Xerox and the more-or-less O.K. Bausch and Lomb) and currently live in Cambridge, Ma. the birthplace of the dearly departed as well as mostly-O.K. Polaroid.
Weird.
Someone needs to find James
You should upload all your failed videos to a separate channel
Joseph McKenna thought this was the failed videos channel
I hope when James found his audition, he...
hit it out of the park
Holes in benches, how interesting.
Christina Hennessey indubitably! Haha 🍄🍄💋💋
John Smith 😂😂
I want a Polaroid knock off so bad
Good luck, James
Before I went to Japan, I upgraded my phone exclusively to have a good camera, albeit second hand, and bought an Instax 300 Wide instant camera (also second hand) so I could generate little mementos as I went along. It's a nice little combo to have when traveling.
I watch this religiously.
James has a heck of a story to tell at his audition.
I had a Polaroid 600 too. Still have it, still works, film is far too expensive really to ever use it again.
good luck, james
Polaroid film is still expensive
I had a Polaroid Instamatic camera that sounds very similar to the one Tom described, also given to me for my birthday, back when digital cameras weren't a thing. I used mine more than he did, though, because I became the official photographer for family events, so I could get my parents to pay for the film. I discovered fairly early on that the shutter button is actually two buttons in one: One enables the flash, and one actually triggers the shutter. So, you *can* take a picture without the flash by just using the back half of the button.
I am a bit late but, good luck James
Matt Gray's camera on ebay? Put it on auction and you would get significantly more due to celebrity value.
I study photography at UAL, so I get to use the darkroom for free, so shooting on film is wonderful. Instant cameras are great for a while but they do soon get boring.
It's great, but all you really need to develop film is a changing bag. Now if you want to make prints that's another story.
Whoops, I'm behind!
Cute picture!
The downside of instant photo cameras is that you can easily lose the photos after you've taken them. >.>
You shouldn't have kept James in. Now I'm worried about if he found the audition, or if he succeeded! I can't sleep :(
hold up. now we need a vague maths parody
I got this camera recently too! It's so much fun :-) fyi there are actually two models below this one, but the middle model uses weird batteries. The biggest plus for me was that this model has a rechargeable battery.
Good luck James.
love James, hope his audition went well
A photo developing shop we always called a chemist's. Probably because it tended to be Boots.
Do we know what kind of audition James was going for?
I never had a Polaroid but I do remember getting disposable Kodak cameras and then having the film developed at the shop. And then using the film canisters to keep things in!
I don’t but there something about those print photos that give you nostalgia that a smartphone simply can’t. The older phones had that some but the newer one not so much.
Oh god, Tom please do a mans not hot cover
I HOPE YOU DID WELL JAMES 😭😭😭
I never new the name of those things.
If they're disposable watch out the anti plastic movement though
Amazingly well framed considering how it was taken. Still has the novelty factor it always has but I have enough clutter without random pictures lying around too.
so much money for such a low resolution... one would think they'd have reached the quality of standard photofilms by now
good luck james
Up and to the left of matt’s head looks photoshopped
Its a tree behind a black wall
Oh, I'm not sure if Matt ran into them in his research, but they also make digital cameras with dyesub printers built-in. So you get the Polaroid experience, but you get to choose which ones to actually print. Roughly the same price point as what he picked up.
This video lived up to my expectations.
They also make a digital one so you don’t have to print every time
Next Matt will be going with Chris Marquardt on a trip, taking along a small large format camera, a light meter and a large tripod.
Vague maths 2+2=between 3&5ish. There
Fuzzy logic maths ftw!
Pictures taken instantaneously!
