As a John Lee main for more than 2 years, I can say that 35 is enough for normal domains while 44k is good for ADZHIDSCSAJ the toitoi and EI weekly boss without healer. I'm not sure for abyss but my papa is around 37k and its still good. A balance between HP and ER would be better for an all-round papa
I've been using zhongli with 51 crit rate 100 crit dmg with black tassel 4pc Tenacity of mil crown in the shield, and now i have 30k dmg on ult and a Really Good shield. The key is equilibrium. (40.412 hp)
geo resonance and tenacity would increase shield strength by an additional 45% furthermore damage mitigation sources like xing and beidou work for additional shield strength using it on a high defense character like noelle or itto would also increase the shield strength making you virtually unkillable.
I run him as a sub dps now but used to be main dps back in the day. Love his design so much. His current build is: 2pc Gladiator 2pc Tenacity HP/Geo Dmg/ CR 33k HP, 1875 Atk, 50 CR, 193 CD Talents 10/10/10 Havent run into any issues with the shield tbh and landing a 100k damage meteor every now and then is just too good 😂 I usually use him on mono geo teams or with Xiao (second fav design).
If you want your Zhongli to deal some damage and still be a shielder, you’ll need approximately 35k hp. Mine is 34k hp, 2000 atk and 50/240 physical. Just perfect unit for everything

30-40k always works for me on basically every occasion and i usually spend the rest on my energy working on his dmg. i feel like 50-60k hp is pretty much overkill after awhile. i hate dodging but in order for my 40k shield to be broken before i can reapply it, i gotta be standing still while letting vishaps pound me
For the 5 Ruin Guards you will need arround +60K so the shield don’t break. And considering talent lvl10. With 56K the rockets of the last ruin guard break the shield and damage Zhongli
I have prepared 2 sets - One for double hydro teams and other for anemo hypercarries. For the first type, I'm using a full Archaic Petra set and with hydro resonance, my HP is 58025. For the second type, I'm using 2 piece Tenacity and 2 piece Vorukasha's Glow combo and my HP (without hydro resonance ofcourse) is 60222. I'm not using a full Tenacity here because I have C6 Faruzan and she's better unit to equip full Tenacity set. Plus, my Zhongli is level 89, so it is possible to increase his HP, but just a bit.

Now regarding my Zhongli's teams, I'm assuming you're asking about the abyss, because in the open world, my teams are just random and mostly have no synergy. For abyss, I use my Zhongli on 2 pieces of Tenacity and Vorukasha for hypercarry Wanderer and hypercarry Xiao teams with Faruzan and Bennett. My Faruzan is C6 and she equips full set of Tenacity as she procs its attack buff more efficiently. Another team is use with Zhongli in abyss is with double hydro. Here, my Zhongli is on full Archaic Petra set to give 35% (hydro) damage bonus to my Xingqui and Yelan. 2 pc retracing bolide can be really good. Don’t get me wrong 4 pc tenacity of milileth is really good but 2pc retracing and 2 pc milileth is honestly a good alternative for sheer tanking

@@powerrr666 for me I'll play him as a physical dps soon so that I won't get bored of him. Shieldbot Zhongli is OP but it's boring to me swap and hold to apply his thick shield that's it until boredom it's not my style I'd rather have fun.
I think going 60k HP Zhongli is wasted (except Abyss). I have mine at 35k HP with 2x Glad + 2x Tenacity with the BP polearm at R1. He does decent damage already with burst reaching 70-75k, more if it crits. No food or team buff. Probably just my artifacts though. 😁😁

Even if you just attack, you might dodge most attacks. I use 54K HP Zhongli, and I don't even remember when was the last time his shield broke. P.S. 40k is low tho, one should have atleast above 45K.
given the point and fact, that no player udner normal circumstances is to dumb to just stand around and eat an enemys strongest attack for every hit, but usually normally naturally dodges attacks, moves around so does positioning, 40k is absolutely enough, anything else would require anyways also being a whale with Staff of Homa on... there are even such crazy thigns possible, like a 100k zhomgli, that ive seen today... totally crazy.. awesoem maybe if the only thign you use Zhongli for is his shield and burst just for raw base damage and best shield endurance.. but from a DPS perfective, such a build absolutely cant have good crit values, if you put absolutely everythign into Hp only, lesser HP for having instead good CR/CD values is much better on him, than having only astronomicalyl high HP, because most trash mobs dont deal nearly as much damage at all ever, than this boss does in this test video.

Zhongli Shield works for everyone though, Noelle shield is gonna be weak on anyone except Noelle (or another defense scaler) cuz her high defense is reducing damage to the shield. Zhongli Shield would last even longer on Noelle.

My Zhongli is just a shield bot with 56k HP, goes up to over 60k with two Hydro characters.

How to deal dmg with zhongli : put Archaic Petra on him, and he will increase dmg for your team. Much better than giving dps artefact on him.

35k is plenty in my experience. That way you can give him Er and Crit Rate. His burst is very useful for monument guarding.

My 4k Noelle is more durable than my 55k zhongli by a lot. But her CD is making her mid
Use that one sword that has 40% chance to reset cooldown, that makes her OP (and i have that in refinement rank 3, i never run out of shields)
