I have one in black, still going strong, considering selling it, unsure how it would compare soundwise to modern amp that's not surround, I never have used the surround anyway so I should have bought a standard amp
I have an interesting question for you if you wouldn't mind helping me out. My Panasonic surround receiver died after 20+ yrs of service. I had everything from a 8 track to a blueray player looked up to it. To try to stay with that tradition I've found a Marantz SR4002 and a Harman Kardon AVR 254 surround receiver. I'm having the hardest time choosing between the two. Which would you choose please?
Ummmmmm. Hmmmmm. Bloody Good Question. Sheez talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place. Honestly I would go the Marantz in my opinion however it will also come down to your price range and the features you need.
@@OldMatesBackyardTech Each one $100, same price. I found them at 2 different pawnshops. Either will handle the connections I need. Any idea on which brand might be more reliable?
My Marantz from this video held up good until it got fried by a power surge. Honestly my personal preference from a pure sound point of view is Marantz has a nice richer sound to my ears over a HK. But that is to my ears. Others will say that HK is better I found with my Marantz that it had warmer feel to it. Like old school Marantz
@@OldMatesBackyardTech thanks again sir for your insight. That's exactly what I've been reading on the forums that Marantz has a warmer sound. As the saying goes beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is our listening preferences. 👍🏾
I've had the 4001 in black for years. We moved and I'm hooking it back up/lost the remote of course. Question Mate,,,do you think HDMI input is that much better than Digital Optical?
Codes are available for the factory remote/uni remote. However getting the factory remote to talk again is 2 fold 1 - it diode on remote has giving up 2 - it receiver on amp has failed 3 - BOTH
Had one 16 years, the remote doesn't work, not do the buttons on the front. But it still works, still picks up 5.1 and absolutely slaps!!
Congrats! Mine is very similar Marantz SR4500 7.1, have had it for many years hooked up with Jamo speakers, it's awesome.

On audio, probably not much, depending on the sample rate.
Delay time is negligible
Hey, how do you sink the remote to it? I think my remote is no longer synced from old age...what do you suggest I do?

Amp and preamp
how do you run your pc through it? HDMI & run the video through the amp?
Assuming the output of your motherboard is HDMI 1.1 then you would run video and audio through it. Same way you run any HDMI device
80-100watts
