It's one thing to build arches, that isn't too taxing, but to build *EVEN* arches that meet up nicely without any guides or forms completely by eye? That's skill.
And what about the safety?

It doesn't really matter what the skill is, but I could watch skilled people work at their craft all day. I know nearly nothing about bricklaying, but I know this guy is supremely skilled and it is a joy to watch.

This is pure skill. No angle grinders, no tape measure, dunking the brick in the water and not getting the mortar all over the face, the quickness, not worrying about the joint work until it matters. Man just getting the angles right by cutting the brick with the trowel is hella impressive.
No. You obviously have no idea what building standards and compliance to a trade are. This is some of the shonkiest messy work ive ever seen a brickie do. This crew would be fired on most sites.

To be completely honest, this isn't close to OSHA compliant, in most cases I think they go way to far in most things but this is partly the reason why workplace death and dismemberment is a lot higher in second and especially third world countries, I think this is in Mexico? I don't dispute that the mason was a master though.

I worked for a mexican bricklayer as a mortarman and he tought me everything about bricklahing and stone masonry. I do my own littld side work doing mailboxes, walkways, patios and fireplaces. It is a time tried skill that once you just do it, you learn how to make your back not hurt so much at the end of the day

I've been a mason all my life and I enjoy watching other mason's doing their craft. There is a certain amount of satisfaction in having the ability to do something that very few people can do. They make this look easy but it's not.

I was bummed out at the end when they covered up the bricks from the outside, I thought they were just going to mortar it from the top, clean it up and seal it against water to leave the beauty of the natural brick for all to see from the outside. 🤷🏻♂️ Then they built the wall on the perimeter and I'm like, oh, ok, can't see it now anyway.

If I'd of filmed myself doing this it would just be a timelapse of me placing a brick and every time I turned round for another brick the other brick fell off. Over and over and over and over

I don’t want to be inside that house during earthquake.
The arcs are very eficient at translating the loads that is why it was one of the earliers methods to build higher, go see those hundreds of years old churches and temples on europe.
Actually as far as concrete constructions go, this would crumble on an earthquake instead of crushing what is below it. Still dangerous but no more than any other structure going down. Plus, these type of constructions usually have other tricks on the foundations if they are built on earthquake areas.
It’s nice but it would never pass code violations and unfortunately that why when major earthquakes of floods hit this places crumble

Old World Craftsmanship Alive and Well. No Laser Guides, no precision diamond tip brick cutter, no CAD plans, just one 'ol rusty metal trowel in the hands of a master craftsman that can transform pallets of bricks into works of art. Have we become to reliant on technology and tools? This guy shows us , by all means, yes.
I built a huge cut and cover cellar in California with such a barrel vault. However, I used slip forms and local rocks for the exposed underside. Then a massive rebar cage over and lots of high strength cement. Been through several earth quakes, and not a rock has dropped yet. I was 35 at the time and self taught. America still spawns some fine craftsmen in spite of all the odds. Far too many over educated, under inspired dolts out there that can't build their own nest.
There's a reason people use transits and lasers, and it's not because craftsmen are lazy. These men however, are quite productive and their work quality low
I'm not sure that tech and tools is the problem. I mean take away the technology of metal, brick making, and basic architectural concepts and he'd be pounding sand.

@@luweue7593 pues no encuentro noticias de que colapse una boveda de este tipo especificamente en queretaro...hay construcciones que no aplican dependiendo de la región evidentemente, pero no por eso le das dislike, es ilógico.
Es triste, pero hay dislikes solo porque la boveda es catalana..

Y por favor señores no digan que esto es una choza, que se cae el techo etc, los arcos y bóvedas son de las mejores estructuras autosoportadas y que duran una eternidad; de ejemplos está lleno México en sus haciendas, acueductos, y ruinas prehispánicas. (los Mayas ya hacían arcos a su manera y ahí siguen). En fin maravilloso trabajo el de estos hombres que a puro ojo de buen cubero y con experiencia infinita hacen trabajos de gran calidad.

I call that "Perfect" an old brick laying technic, which is in nearly forgotten. Keeps your house cool without Aircon . Wish ppl in Europe would learn that again.

I have houses in Mexico and in the USA and I can tell you that american houses are really poorly made, you have cracks and popped nails everywhere, they need constant maintenance just to keep them in acceptable shape. While my Mexican homes need only cosmetic maintenance. One thing I can give to US homes, insulation is very good. Roofs are garbage. In 10 years the insurance had to pay 21k dollars to replace my roof in Texas. While I have only invested 300 dollars waterproofing my home in Mexico.

NOW THAT IS SUPER IMPRESSIVE. I AM AMAZED AT THE SKILL HE IS USING, I WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO LAY A BRICK IN MID AIR WITH OUT IT FALLING DOWN. THATS A GREAT SKILL TO HAVE AND KNOW.
You would if you practiced :) Speed is usually the hardest thing to learn.
God trader i am/was a brick layer. That type of skill is not allowed in the u.s code rule and regulations u know. plus ive tried the mixture every wich way it and it does not stick, it must b the mortar or cement their using in Mexico. But yea maybe ur right, it just might b practice after all practice makes perfection. Thanks
@@dman5225 The cement itself is the same found in the US, the trick of it is that it also has lime mixed into it, plus some sand.
