As a Nigerian watching your podcast, this is my opinion, I feel the dancehall industry are missing the nurturing of talent, that’s one thing afrobeats industry does a lot of, look at artists like Rema & Ayra Starr, they were nurtured by an afrobeats former artist turned record label owner don jazzy, all over the industry their are so many stories like this (also backed up by money) this is one thing they dancehall industry needs to start doing scouting for talent giving them the proper professional training needed in the music industry, I know that Jamaica has the talent out there but it just takes the OG’s in the industry to know when it’s time to pass on the knowledge backed with money 💰 & take a step back themselves for the new talent.
As a Jamaican, agreed. But laaaawd di level a politics that surrounds the industry is astounding. They are stifling themselves as the majority refuse to garner patience to allow the bigger picture to prevail. Trust, they know the formula, many just lack knowledge of self that will aid the productivity of the collective.

The biggest hindrance with dancehall and sales rn is the fact that most of the biggest artistes are indie and when they do sign to a major they don’t do the ground work. Doesn’t make sense you sign if you are not going to put your foot down on the gas pedal.

Jaiii have this narrative about numbers and dancehall him not letting go and refuses to be wrong. I understand he wants dancehall to be on a certain level but him need fi understand seh things take time and times change and will change again. Time and time again him try fi argue with and tell the man dem inna the game how the game run when he’s just a listener. He’s not a producer or shit so why him think him know more so much sometimes? Him same one know say the other genres have much more in them and they are supported more by bigger countries and continents so idk why he’s pushing it like this. While they’re Jamaicans everywhere in the world, majority has the mindset of either supporting more reggae and classic dancehall, even Jamaicans in their high 20s and up mostly prefer old dancehall so the numbers game stuck at music platforms for now. There’s so much more to say why I understand where you coming from but I disagree fam. Jamaica has never and will never be as big as rap/hiphop/r&b and Afro beat gone way a lead now. You probably might make the argument saying Sean Paul or shaggy or whatever to compare to American music but it’s not realistic, and it’s delusional. I understand but. Delusional.
Jaii is right dancehall is on a decline. I watched it personally in the US in the club scene. Most of the music is too dark and you can't really dance to it. Missing the "dance" in dancehall 😂
This interview is like Vlad and boosie Jamaican style lol. as far as comparison the American market bigger in terms of numbers, status and fanbase so of coarse you won't be seen as bigger. not saying your work better or worst. I think people are judging base on numbers but at the same time when we talk business we have to talk numbers. however, we all should separate musical talent from music business.
Jai you tripping if a Jamaican Artist go copper him a post dat muchless gold lol… With even the diaspora I don’t even think Jamaicans reach 10mil can’t compare numbers with Afro-beat with one country of 30mil providing support. As Kranium say we don’t have access digicel barely work good fi watch two blue movie wid yuh woman 😢 youtube music nuh work

Yes!! But look at Nigeria’s and Africas populations.

@JJ youre literally saying the same thing. But the Jamaican diaspora can save Jamaican music.
This is a great conversation. Kranium will have us looking at dancehall and sales in a whole different light. Lots of knowledge/insight was given.
