    This was the first PC game I ever played and MW3/MW4 remain the only games me and my dad ever took turns playing together. Fond memories that will never be lost, 10/10! /e The opening scene to this gets me choked up every time I see it, the nostalgia and pure awsomeness is off the charts!

    I really love it when the stubborn clanners bid a 1v1 batchall against you, you told your lances to stand down and go out alone against them. 100% respect for you for that.
    Gosh, I somehow love MW3's gameplay more than MW4, even though MW4 was my first introduction to the game (and lore).

    Good memories :) I was 12 years old when first playing through and it was my first encounter with the battletech universe. Before the first patches got released, Anihilators one shot killed you with their ACs, which made the mission where you find ephona in that mine extremely difficult. in particular because you died 20 times before that encounter running into bridges or other obstacles with your cockpit which was also meant instant game over.
    i liked your approach to the last mission. i always saved up the very sparse gauss rifles and ammo just for that mission and throw four of them into the daishi. quite effective.

      Thanks for the feedback. I've tried to avoid using cheesy loadouts in this playthrough, but now I would redone it, sticking to weapons, which were actually used in TT.

I was already hearing how glorious the MW series was but never managed to experience it beforehand. my first mw was the 3rd but my friends always urged me about mw2:mercs...never been able to find it....I still feel the same excitement with the bushwacker after 25 years...omg those beautiful days...

    this game has aged so well. the mission briefings are phenomenally voiced, script is SOLID. mechs move with weight and a real feeling of scale. the effects they put in were done in such a way to not look like a gimmick - from the water to the lasers, its dated but holds up in its own right. the AI isnt the best but its passable in a team setting with an open environment. what do you use to play this? you rotate so easily, when last i played i used the number pad to move the torso and was MUCH slower

    • @Scorch0017
      @Scorch0017  2 года назад +4

      I play with Mouse and Keyboard. Mouse used for torso twisting, while WSAD for movement. Also, I oftenly switch between torso modes and use Free Look, by holding right mouse button. With constant 60 FPS controls are much smoother and responsive, than when you play without graphics wrapper.

      @@Scorch0017 yea to be sure the voodoo and mods help a lot. my point was that if someone were not technically inclined and just wanted to relive it - the game CAN be run at a passable stability with out mucking about. lower barrier to entry. i may do a stream of this some day, would like to go through it again. good memories from 8th grade

    • @56bturn
      @56bturn 2 года назад +6

      The briefing guy is amazing. He's so monotone, but not in a bad way. A professional way, and the way he talks is realistic, the small inflections that do betray some emotions.
      You can see this in Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy. He's reading through a briefing, and then pauses just briefly and reads the name of a certain sergeant who caused you grief in an earlier mission with a shift in tone, you can really tell he's doing that thing where someone eyes a piece of paper at a slight angle and widens their eyes because it jumps out at them for all the wrong reasons, but they're keeping calm and professional.

    • @HelminthCombos
      @HelminthCombos Год назад

      No i would say this game aged poorly. Considering how hard it is to get running and how shit the early game is when you have no heatsinks. Also collision with terrain is awful

    • @beardedgaming1337
      @beardedgaming1337 Год назад

      @@HelminthCombos collision is rough at times but not game breaking by any means. no heatsinks is solved really fast in teh game though with salvage.
      as for getting it running... it runs with out any mods or tools on windows 10 (havent tried 11 yet) albeit with some crashing here and there and less than optimal textures and resolution on modern systems. a couple tools, some mods, and a tweak gets it running very well and stable on modern systems.

    This game was so good. I however dont care for mapping twist to mouse.
    Old school we had twist on KB, and that allowed the reticle to move freely. Way more precise aiming.
    Still a super nice to see this in proper aspect at high res! Thanks for this!.

      You can switch between torso twist and free aim with the one press of a button. I didn't do this often because free-aim could trivialize the encounters. Also it look kind of strange.

    Whoever if piloting that Thor is one seriously malicious dude. The way he just vaporizes a person on foot in the street with an ERPPC, literally point blank, and then actually looks downward to watch his mech squash someone else with less thought than if they were stepping on a cockroach really makes the atmosphere hit you pretty hard.

    I purchased a dirt cheap laptop from 2008 with a gtx 280m and dual core extreme processor, more than enough for these old games and with less hassle in compatibility. A sidewinder force feedback 2 and a big box copy of this game. Installed the voodoo mods and hi res pack. I always wanted to try Mechwarrior 3 after falling in love with the series back when Mech 4 first came out. With the added force feedback from the stick its a phenomenal experience. The voice "acting" (My Duke) was so bad i shut off the sound. And Mechs aren't ballet dancers! Why did they make the damage so lame? MW3 is still a great game after 25 years. When my old PC died, I bought an old laptop, loaded a fresh Win XP and was able to run MW3 with patches. Still has some of the glitches like bouncing vehicles... but I can overlook them. Head collision.@@Scorch0017 It definitely could be a bug since I remember this happening to myself on one of those same bridges, but either it happened with other bridges too or I just assumed it was a normal thing to watch out for. IIRC MW3 had that ricochet-sounding collision system, where if you impacted on something too firmly, like scraping along, it sounded like (and thus surely being registered as) multiple collisions, so it was likely for this multiple impact to be registered on the head if a mech ran into a low bridge.
      I still remember how I had some difficulty in that mission in my first tries (or maybe it just felt long) and I had completed all mission objectives and was just enjoying the scenery and running around in my Thor. I go under one of those bridges wondering if I fit, and I'm destroyed and fail the mission. ^^;
