Leo's headphone hack reminds me of when our son was his age and we used bandaids to secure his earbuds on! He is now 26 and living in Gunma, so we travel to Japan to see him once a year - usually in the fall, when things have cooled off.
Hey John. Just wanted to share my thanks that you are still producing RUclips videos! I have followed you since 2017 and really like the way you have evolved with the times. So, here’s my sincere Thanks! Keep up the great work! 😁👍🏼
Since we bave family in Japan, there have been many years back/forth. We always go ANA with excellent experiences. All ages from tiny baby to shaky senior.
John I have to laugh because at the end ne of this video you asked who would come to Japan in this heat. I was just there (Tokyo area) for a month from August 14-Sept 12 and it was sweltering hot. I am from Daytona Bch Florida so I figured it wouldn’t be much different than what I’m used to. I have to admit I think it was hotter there in Japan. However, I didn’t let it stop me from doing things. I had sweat pouring into my eyes, it was burning because I wear contacts. (that sucked bad. I was miserable. I believe the next time I come back it will have to be spring. I really want to see the cherry blossoms. Anyway, I can’t say enough about Japan. I miss everything about it and wish I was still there. The food, the culture, the cleanliness. Everything is just superb. Everyone that’s from Japan should be very proud of their country. It’s a true gift. A spectacular one at that.
Morning! Welcome back John! You were missed! Your channel really brings such warmth to the day. Lovely background in your post. Love the architecture of the apartment buildings and shops. Japan is just so awesome. Cheers!
I used to fly regularly between the US and East Asia and I can heartily sympathize with the jet-lag! I also used to experience that the quality of food on the same airline was sometimes noticeably different, depending upon where the flight was originating (being supplied from). Yours was not an isolated experience. This is only the second video of yours that I have ever watched so I don't know your style but I did notice and appreciate your diplomacy when speaking on certain subjects. 😊
I used to get the special meals on flights, just to get served sooner, but I've stopped after I read a blog from a flight attendant. She said that usually those special meals aren't prepared right before the flight like the regular meals, but they stay there for longer, given the low request. So you might get some slightly stale food.
From Japan to New York, it was fresh. From New York, the blog was right. I would trust ANA NOT to keep old food around like that. Their reputation is inportant to them. I think it was the first time I got an awful “special meal” … on either leg.
I totally agree with you about the amazing clean toilets on japanese airlines - we usually fly SIA but decided to try JAL because their flights from Singapore to Japan have 2 seaters which is great for the 2 of us. We were literally in “shock” in a good way by how clean the cabin toilets were! That’s it - we were sold on JAL and decided that is our airline when flying to Japan. Glad you arrived japan safe and sound. Hope Kanai has recovered and you guys get knocked out sleep the next few days.
That’s rough going. I’m 78 years old now. I went to japan in 1972. Women flight attendants wore western dress then kimono to Japan. I like to have traveled more, but afraid to get sick. I think Airlines should make sure food is safe, tasty, clean so people don’t get sick. I hope you, Kanai and Leo get rest and feel better. I enjoy all your videos especially with your family. From Suzanne Hitomi Alameda, California ❤😮😊
Welcome back to Japan🙂Those meals on your flight looked relatively delicious although Leo’s meals looked a little bit better so i would trade those if possible 😄lol! Thank you for sharing this one John🙂👍!!!
You picked a great time to leave Tokyo. My two weeks there in July were 34 to 37c and quite oppressive. The heat slowed me up a bit. Looks like more leg room than Qantas.
Already mentioned by other posters that the 787 is aka “Dreamliner”. The 777 (triple 7) is aka by some as “Bigfoot or Sasquatch” because of the 6-wheel main landing gear (instead of the usual 4). I concur with all that the Japanese airlines (between US and Japan) are the best. They have more spacious seats (more pitch) than most US carriers in economy. I believe JAL 787 economy is the only one configured with 2-4-2 abreast seating while other 787’s are configured 3-3-3. The service is consistently impeccable.
I will never forget when I flew LAX to NY in June 2020 covid, etc. The desolation of the airports, being able to lay down across 3 seats on both flights, some with only 20 of us on an A321 that seats maybe 185 people =)
I went to Japan back in July 2017, it was hot, but me, being born and raised in the south of Portugal, I am used to the temperatures above the 30s, and as long you stay in the shade during the most dangerous hours (normally between 12 and 4 pm), drink a lot of water, you can pretty much survive and have fun as I did
Seeing how Leo’s food was presented on the flight from Japan to NY.. How heart warming!..and another reason why I love Japanese culture so much..the attention to detail..with a caring heart. ❤ Glad you guys made it back safely! John, maybe you guys can try out one of those new little portable ACs that are all the rage here in the states! The ones you pour water into..then the fan blows and delivers nice cold air :-) Have one, and got one for my daughter and Mom..they work! 😊. Stay cool! And have an awesome day! 😊❤
I always close the toilet lid. Also if you think about it, if someone releases air from their "backside", is everyone in the area "eating" the molecules of feces when they inhale? 😂
The armrest is not an issue on Premium. Paid the extra and it was great. It was a splurge for sure. On United it was $1,300 round trip. Might do it again in 2 yrs for our 30th Anniversary.
Idk if there's a way to figure out in advance when you're getting the airlines food and when you getting the random food, but I got to figure it out. I had a flight with Cathay Pacific, had a menu in econ, food seemed like it's going to be good but I fell asleep and nobody woke me up or left food for me. Other connection and return flights had no menu and food was average at best. Wished I ate at the terminal or brought food with me somehow. So far ANA flight food was pretty decent, definitely good for econ flights. Had a local JAL flight once, was too long to remember clearly but food seemed great.
Added Welcome Back. Appreciated the meal comparisons. Last month we flew ANA from Beijing to Osaka. The meals on that flight looked better than what you had from New York. Have to admit though that JAL remains our favorite for in flight meals. A nice touch is even in economy we always get served Haagen Dazs Ice Cream on JAL. Most memorable U.S. to Japan meal on JAL though was out of Chicago where we got served Chicago Style Hot Dogs! (That was in November of 2022 when flights were just returning to Japan so they were few and far between. To get from Anchorage to Tokyo we had to fly first to Chicago! That Chicago Style Hot Dog though made it worth it. 🌭 )
I second grabbing a taxi, especially if you're arriving relatively late. I took a taxi from Haneda to Hirai (Edogawa) because I arrived around 11:30PM from Singapore. Was pricey (i.e., around Y9K) but it was worth it because it was also pouring.
I’ve noticed that also, but my flight path is different than yours it’s that I’m departing from NY and landing in Tokyo. Food is better on my departure flight. I skipped going into Tokyo this year
We flew from LA to Tokyo and it was long and we was in middle it was pretty okay going but coming back we got sick jet lag the food was not good just snacks and fruit but we had good time
I never got disappointed by the meals each time I took a flight to Japan and came back to Europe, either by Emirates or Lufthansa( due to some weather conditions they cancelled the ANA flight that I booked and had to choose a Lufthansa flight😅)
I just did the same flight after visitng my family in NJ. I flew JAL. I did not want to fly from Newark because JAL does not fly there. No US airlines for me anymore.
ANA doesn’t fly there either. They’re “partner” United does and you can choose not to fly them. There are 2 flights a day to JFK from Haneda and one from Narita I believe.
Also, as I said, was in Tokyo at the start of July. Tokyo was waaaaay cooler than here in Singapore. Perhaps it's the humidity - Tokyo is definitely less humid than Singapore.
Was the economy in a 3-4-3 configuration? I've only flown a 777 where the economy section was in a 3-3-3 configuration. That has got to be some narrow seats.

Yeah, I used to fly a LOT and ANA appears to be the best airline. My biggest challenge (not including finances) is that you can book an ANA flight, then discover you are actually flying United. Has United improved AT ALL?

JAL has electric sockets, USB A and C in economy since they switched to A350 from JFK. On the 777 outlets are sometimes under the seat. The toilets were a biohazard disaster scene.
On flights the catering companies that the airline has to use for the neals in the US is not very good. Going to the U.S. the meals are usually better esp coming from Asian countries.
The Flight Kitchens are where you depart from. Sorry, your food wasn't up to par. ANA always have good food...leaving out of Japan. Glad you made it back safe.
I love flying with ANA, the flight attendants are so nice, polite, and does their jobs well.
Leo's headphone hack reminds me of when our son was his age and we used bandaids to secure his earbuds on! He is now 26 and living in Gunma, so we travel to Japan to see him once a year - usually in the fall, when things have cooled off.
I’m flying to Tokyo from London next month with ANA. Can’t wait!
Hey John. Just wanted to share my thanks that you are still producing RUclips videos! I have followed you since 2017 and really like the way you have evolved with the times. So, here’s my sincere Thanks! Keep up the great work! 😁👍🏼
totally agree that the food prepared in Japan is much better than the food prepared in the US airport.
I disagree. Much depends on the airline. As a frequent traveler to and from Japan I have had terrible food both ways. ANA and JAL are among the best
@@runderbaby5045it is not the airline, it is the catering company that the airline has to use.
Thank you so much for this. Because of your last video, we booked our 1st Japan trip from Los Angeles with ANA. Can’t wait ! 😊
Since we bave family in Japan, there have been many years back/forth. We always go ANA with excellent experiences. All ages from tiny baby to shaky senior.
ANA is the best! JAL is great too but I just take ANA more because they’ve been good to us.
Shaky senior lol. I’m getting there myself. Can’t imagine a better experience than traveling on a Japanese airline.
Leo was astonished❤❤❤
Good to hear you avoided the crowdstrike debacle.
Took Japan Air from Boston to Tokyo 6 weeks ago. 14 hours direct…premium economy… Had access to the lounge😀
John I have to laugh because at the end ne of this video you asked who would come to Japan in this heat. I was just there (Tokyo area) for a month from August 14-Sept 12 and it was sweltering hot. Anyway, I can’t say enough about Japan. I miss everything about it and wish I was still there.

Another fabulous family traveling vacation video indeed Prince Leo is bigger now yep he loves flying looking great as always guys God bless always
Flying ANA to Japan in October. I've heard great things about ANA ❤
I just flew ANA business from chicago a few weeks ago. The room was so nice and the service as always was excellent.
Economy with a family of three is so much nicer. Having the full row is soooo nice. Love ANA. Wish I could use them to Toronto.
Yes, it’s odd they don’t have one, to Canada’s financial capital. At least to see Ohtani play the Blue Jays!!
We’ve flown ANA to from U.S. for the last 8-9 years, and you are so right about the food. Always so much better flying from Japan to the U.S.
Just flew JAL with our 1 year old and it was great! Had a good experience with ANA as well while my wife was still pregnant
i work for TOTO, not only on airplanes, at home, that "stuff" also goes everywhere, CLOSE THE LID everytime!
I used to get the special meals on flights, just to get served sooner, but I've stopped after I read a blog from a flight attendant. Looking younger 👌

Leo won this time 😋
Totally agree
I frying ANA from Houston to Haneda food was not good
Coming back from Narita to Chicago food was really good.

John - I haven't seen your livestream in quite awhile. LEO IS ADORABLE~!! What a handsome young man he is. Loved seeing him~!!! ❤
Glad to hear your flight had no issues. Get plenty of rest
The Jet Kid looks great! Wish i could use one of those. Welcome Home!
Looking at that video with your family in coach, your son must have thought it was first class with all that leg room!
ANA is the best!
I always close the toilet lid. Also if you think about it, if someone releases air from their "backside", is everyone in the area "eating" the molecules of feces when they inhale? 😂
That's such a smart idea for Leo's headphones. Thanks for the tip!
The armrest is not an issue on Premium. Paid the extra and it was great. It was a splurge for sure. On United it was $1,300 round trip. Might do it again in 2 yrs for our 30th Anniversary.
Hi John. Aliyah! I missed this livestream 😢. So happy to see that you and your family arrived safely back home. Welcome home! Missed you my brother.
We’re back! Thanks Michael ^_^
I'll be flying ANA first class this May!
Looking good in those spectacles mister!

❤ANA too! more legroom,
ANA the way to go.....the food is a little disappointing but everything else was great. Welcome back John!!
That's funny about the chocolates, thanks for sharing 👍
It’s history! Thank you ^_^
I’ve noticed that also, but my flight path is different than yours it’s that I’m departing from NY and landing in Tokyo. Food is better on my departure flight. I skipped going into Tokyo this year
Wow Leo's growing fast
I hope you had a great time with family John :)
Welcome Home John
おかえりなさい〜!
ただいま〜^_^
What do you think of JAL compared to ANA?
We flew from LA to Tokyo and it was long and we was in middle it was pretty okay going but coming back we got sick jet lag the food was not good just snacks and fruit but we had good time
Welcome back John san....looking fwd to ur regular live stream again...BTW B777 is not the Dreamliner....B787 is...just thot u should know...cheers
Wasn’t sure, the live chat was saying it was but it didn’t seem like a Dreamliner inside. Thank you!
I never got disappointed by the meals each time I took a flight to Japan and came back to Europe, either by Emirates or Lufthansa( due to some weather conditions they cancelled the ANA flight that I booked and had to choose a Lufthansa flight😅)
Food on US airlines have tanked a long time ago bub. LOL😂
daym the econ seating . ive done it 5 times i finally moved up to premium econ lol. someday business.
Miss u from italy ❤❤
The food on JAL ; from either SFO or LAX is very good.
The economy seats on the Singapore Airlines flight to Haneda were not really comfortable. In contrast Zipair has more legroom. Its a lifesaver for me.
i like your shades, can you share where you bought your shades?
flying Zipair Lie Flat/ Business class in October. They are ANA budget airline. Have you tried them
I just did the same flight after visitng my family in NJ. I flew JAL. I did not want to fly from Newark because JAL does not fly there. No US airlines for me anymore.
ANA doesn’t fly there either. They’re “partner” United does and you can choose not to fly them. There are 2 flights a day to JFK from Haneda and one from Narita I believe.
Do you book a flight through a certain website or do you book ANA on their website and try to get direct flights with no stops?
Are those Matsuda glasses?
Also, as I said, was in Tokyo at the start of July. Tokyo was waaaaay cooler than here in Singapore. Perhaps it's the humidity - Tokyo is definitely less humid than Singapore.
I am planning my trip to Japan for next July, because it will be my birthday and I plan on climbing Mt Fjui.
Great! Fuji climbing isn’t as fun as you might think … but it’s a nice accomplishment.
How is Kanai feeling? Did you took him Chipotle?
Got bumped from Delta One to Ana’s The Room. Now Delta One feels like premium economy. 😅
Was the economy in a 3-4-3 configuration? I've only flown a 777 where the economy section was in a 3-3-3 configuration. That has got to be some narrow seats.
3-4-3 yes.
ANA has a great reputation, but the price to codeshare from Australia to Japan is twice the price with ANA than flying Qantas both legs (NZ->AUS->JPN). I'm getting pings about dropping prices but not JAL or ANA codeshares!
Enjoying your flight video, John. ANA is United's sister airline, and yes, the flights from the US are provided by United's food crew. And it's blechh. team special meals! always.
Food quality in Japan is better than in the USA, but the last time I flew ANA the food in both directions was not as good as the previous time I flew.
❤
I've made the long, nonstops to Tokyo many times the last 17 years (mostly from Washington, DC)
I only fly Business Class because I need that Laydown-Flat Sleeper Seat.
I was a US Navy pilot and I've always loved flying. But as I've gotten older, my back cannot tolerate sitting up (Economy Class) for 14+ hours straight
The Boeing 777 was released in 1994 and is still one of the safest long distance aircraft ever made.
We call it "triple 7" at FedEx.
Feels like a slot machine win 🏆
The Japanese auto-flush toilets do not put the seat down before flushing. You need to have a talk with them about that!
Rode both ANA and UA to Japan from the states in separate trips. ANA economy = United Airlines Economy Plus. But United Airlines Premium Plus or United Business is what makes the flight a lot less tiring. Food in both airlines were ok. Staff were pro's as well - edge to ANA staff cos of cultural tendencies (politeness and courteous).
Hey John! I keep missing the live and been meaning to ask.. how did you loose weight? You literally look way younger now! 👏🏻👏🏻
Somehow, not being able to sleep for 13 hours from Detroit to Haneda, staring at the map, and then maybe dozing off for 15 min wasn't too much torture for me =), Haneda to US was so much better, at least 2 hours faster. Still need to bring a seat cushion, these airplane seats are so firm now.
ANA need your customer view to improve premium economy
The politics are just too much this year! Everything is about it. As you saw with the chocolate. Too much. I'll be glad when November comes and we are hopefully done with all the drama. Hopefully we are not being represented by a ompaloompa 😂. Glad you had a safe flight!
Ive been without ac for more than 30 years, you just learn to find places with free ac during the day and sleep through heat at night.
I wonder I it would be possible to get an extra meal. They must have many meals they have to throw away. I'm a big guy and would like to eat more than my kids 😊
Is japanese staff bus counter except us dollars I don't want to change to yen it's okay?
How do people walk around like it's nothing though? Higher heart rates?
I choose the vegan or vegetarian options. They are usually the safest.
Probably just gonna bring 2 tortas and a bunch of snacks/fruit for the flight 😂
Is this your first time going to Japan?
Will you be watching the Olympics?
JAL has electric sockets, USB A and C in economy since they switched to A350 from JFK. On the 777 outlets are sometimes under the seat.
The toilets were a biohazard disaster scene.
777 isnt a Dreamliner - that's the 787.
Thank you !
