The Hungarian Folk Tales stem from original folktale collections, every episode has its special authentic ornamentation. The makers used the decorative art of a certain countryside region at each episode. The trio of folk art, folk music and folk tales are masterfully combined in the episodes, which have unique imagery, sometimes spicy folk humor in the dialogues. Thanks to the natural presentation of the storytellers, and the music of the Kaláka band, the viewer can experience something unique and special.

Question about the 2nd story: Whoever gets the red skirt gets to marry first? Or gets to be queen first?

It's possible for the first option; mis-translations do happen now and again. Not likely for them to become queen, though; in those days, they would simply have been married off. The only way for them to become queen of their home kingdom would be if their royal father had only daughters and no sons, one of them might become queen, depending on how much he liked her betrothed/husband to become king after him. If no prince could be found to marry them, they would go to a duke or earl.

It talks about whoever picks the most berries can get mom's coveted accessory. In Hungary, offering a royal item for a very valuable task is a powerful offering making the said child more worthy to inherit a larger fortune in the future.

The red dress is still important at weddings in Hungary today. The tradition remains that after the bridal dance at midnight on the wedding day, the bride changes her clothes and puts on a red skirt. According to tradition, it is a symbol of transformation (from a girl to a woman). Next she dances in this dress.
