Asslama o alalikum. I notice often that the recitation of our African Brothers is different from what we commonly hear in other parts of the world. Is it a different Qiraat or a different Maqam?
Wa Alaikum Salam Wa Rahmatullah brother. That’s a a good question. It depends, generally their maqaam is different, very distinguished especially amongst west Africans. There is also a difference in qira’aat, for e.g. often in North Africa the use of Warsh style of qira’ah. Sometimes there is overlap in of course the Maqam sounding different and the difference in qira’ah as well, a good example is this recitation by Imam Kishk where is he reciting in qira’ah Warsh, and also in the distinct western African maqam. I hope that answers your question. Wa Alaikum Salam Wa Rahmatullah.
