    Has anybody noticed that Popeye and the anime characters are animated differently?
    Popeye himself is moving in all 24 frames a second. "The Standard of all Animations. Flash, Illustration, CGI, Ect..."

      +Joseph Calabrese >Popeye himself is moving in all 24 frames a second. "The Standard of all Animations. Flash, Illustration, CGI, Ect..."
      Wrong. Western animation is 12 frames per second. Animes limited appearance comes from being 9 frames. Only a few very extreme animators bother to do 24 frames, people like Richard Lester.

    • @josephcalabrese6337

      Lamont Cranston
      Is that so?

      Was Hayao Miyazaki blessed by a unicorn?

    • @nightmaretomb5294
      @nightmaretomb5294 8 лет назад +11

      +Lamont Cranston Western animation used 24 frames per second back when Popeye started in the 1930s. Because of budget cuts it gradually became less and less. During the 60s and 70s some cartoons were made so cheaply they were using 6 frames per second or even less. See 1966's Marvel Super Heroes for an extreme case of making cartoons as cheaply as possible. Much of the "animation" was actually cutting figures out of comics and moving them across the background.

    • @reneastle8447
      @reneastle8447 5 лет назад

      There won't be such a thing as budget cuts because the Retro Decade Revival Project will bring hand drawn cel animation back into the public mainstream with animators drawing 24 frames per second.

      not all anime are stiff, i'd say it was like that up until about the year 2006 or 2007

      Naw, stiffness and limited animation are still dominant in anime. Granted, it's heavily present in many of today's American cartoons as well, but it's nowhere near as prominent as that in anime.

      ohsaywhatistruth A lot of flash cartoons of today are crazy stiff, anime is never the King of Animation, but neither are American toons

      The anime has evil stuff more than the cartoon

    2. i love how different it is to western animation like cartoons are for kids and how anime is for teens to adults. i love the fact that anime can have violence, fan service, swearing, drama, comedy, action, adventure, echii, a story in a series instead of a story in a episode, and the series can go as long as long as the manga still goes on example one piece or bleach.

    Eh, pretty good video. Although VERY one sided, it does a good job of pointing out and parodying various anime cliches, more early 90's anime if anything. Also, I suppose this can also be seen as a parody of the bad dubbing of the 90's, but those could easily just be really, really bad Japanese accents.

  • @Tsuguayme
    @Tsuguayme 14 лет назад +2

    I agree. A lot of anime today are like that. I sort of favor older anime like in the 70's-90's.
    I love anime but I think it has a higher tendancy to be repetitive than American cartoons. With some series I think they care more about making as many episodes as possible. There are good points and bad points of both American and Japanese animation.

    However, the word "cartoon" is often viewed as something meant to appeal to kids. I think this is part of the reason why the words "cartoon" and "Anime" are rarely considered synonymous. Before people start viewing anime and cartoon as the same, the way we view the word cartoon would need to change.
    As a side note, this video really disappointed me... As a big Popeye fan I wanted to see Popeye interact with actual anime characters rather than made up characters to fit a cliche.

    Well, if the chips were down, I'd take the sailor man with the spinach can, for once he's ate the spinach, victory is pretty well guaranteed.
    Sure, he might get his butt handed to him a few times before that, but Popeye ALWAYS gets the spinach in the end, even if the forces of evil take it away, he always ends up chowing down and kicking butt anyway.

    I guess Popeye would look a little weird in an anime but you never know he might someday. I thought that he'll come around someday with a new show or something like in the late 70s, "The New Popeye Show" and 80s, "Popeye and Son". At least he still has franchise out and about.
