@foot doctor Zach what’s your recommendation for these shoes? True to size or a full size up. My toe is close to the end in a 14 but the shoe doesn’t come in a 14.5. What’s your recommendation for performance basketball shoe regarding fit?
Ive definitely been getting heel pain after playing ball. I have never had that pain before. I am now 42. It takes about 2-3 days for it to go away with rest, but once I play again it comes back. Ive been using lots of different shoes, but it doesn’t matter. I can see how this would effect an athlete that has to play everyday. Old age never loses😂
Never understood why shoes soles are not 'segmented' just like human feet. Seems like a logical design. Kd9 if not mistaken was kinda like this and combined with zoom it was comfy.
Lebron has over 1350 career games played. That’s a lot of stress on the body. Time catches up to even the greatest athletes. Really love playing in the 20s. Great shoe!!
Just recovered from an ankle fracture I suffered 4 months ago, now I can pretty much start playing again. I used to wear Lebron 17s before and need new ones, do you think I should get the 20s considering the ankles stuff? Let me know what you think!
Had a knee injury (still hurts at times after game) and it did affect my shooting range and somewhat accuracy. As I watched my video, foot upon jumping is uneven. Doc Zach did explained it well.
😅 Getting?? He's already "older"...in basketball years. I've watched him every year since year 3 and I'm like the only one on the planet the realizes he's not 25 anymore. I expect lebron to perform like any other 38 year old 20 year veteran.
He's older but the way he's missing open jumpers. Leads me to believe there is something else. Last thing to go should be his jumper, short or long is acceptable, but these shots are all over the place
The first person that comes to mind is Kobe, multiple hand/finger, elbow, shoulder, back, knee, ankle, foot injuries. Was still able to shoot a decent fg%. Refusing surgery to finish the finals or season.
I have a couple of friends that have been wearing the Lebron 20's and they've been complaining of foot pain lately as well. One said that his heel sinks in a lot making it feel like he's walking on an incline.
Wouldn't having the heal sink lower than forefoot create a negative offset thus putting more pressure on the plantar fascia? I've had other shoes that did this and my foot doc at the Syracuse Va hospital said that could be one potential causes along with flat feet coupled with inadequate arch support.
Great video! This is really good information that casual players and especially kids involved in youth sports can use to make important decisions about resting from an injury.
Can attest to the "hurting other parts" for sure... I would yearly experience gout and inflammation on my ankle and/or big toe. Those few weeks until full recovery (which is right now) really screws up all my other joints.
I needed this video about 16 years ago. Foot issues led to a ruptured plantar fascia and then 18 months later a Lisfranc rupture. I can relate to everything you are saying. Used to have a solid jumper, now my range is greatly reduced.
Thank you for all the good information. I have had arch pain/Achilles pain on and off pretty consistently for the last several years. I appreciate the information on the right shoes to help. Could you also do a video on the benefit of "barefoot" type shoes for strengthening? The information I see on the barefoot stuff is mostly from people that are hardcore get to barefoot all the time. Since you appreciate shoes I would be curious on your thoughts. Thanks!
Definitely have to ease into it. I was one of the ones who made a hard switch to barefoot shoes and ended up with lots of overuse injuries of the foot. Once I took it slow and corrected the muscular imbalances from wearing regular shoes since I was born, my feet and my body felt a lot stronger.
Have both the 19 and 20 and have been playing in both recently. The 20's only problem is traction on a dusty floor. The new traction pattern collects dust easily and traction loss is significant without wiping. Fit and feel are fine, and it is of course a good bit lighter than the 19s.
So spot on. I have knee pain, so I have to change my mechanics significantly to shoot threes and it's so inconsistent. When playing, adrenaline takes over and my form is fine, but just shooting around, it's all over the place.
I have either a stress fracture or tendinitis(either way they still require the same treatment) on my navicular bone and this most likely is from not wearing inserts in all of my shoes and not getting enough rest. So I have to wear a boot for 2 and a half weeks to heal first, and then I can start getting back into more practicing
I’m about a year or 2 older than LeBron and I have issues with my feet. These problems started with one foot feeling sore a lot. I couldn’t imagine trying to play basketball on it. I really hope he can get it fixed because from my experience it doesn’t get any better only worse.
Hey doc, great videos as always.I have a question about different kinds of midsole materials: Zoom, boost, bounce, their "respond rate"are not the same, I wonder if there's injury issues or can our body gets adapt to different materials as time goes? I'm from China and you can see Li-ning, Anta all saying their midsole has 80% of respond rate.I don't think too bouncy is good for our foot health.Wish to hear from you, doc. Thanks!
I'm no foot doctor but my last job i was walking on concrete for 8-9 hours a day. That being said I learned that after so many miles you need to replace your shoes. I was hooked on ultraboosts but for me after about a year the shoe's boost would flatten out a bit and not squish as much. This would cause tons of foot pain and it wouldn't go away until I replaced my shoes. Then I thought maybe I will try new balance 990v4. I wore those to work and after about 6 months my feet were killing me. So me trying to save a few $ and not buy a new pair of shoes I decided to replace the insoles which made the shoes somewhat more comfortable. I used the shoes for another 2-3 months before they hurt too much to wear and I had to get something new. Basically get yourself a new pair of shoes at least once a year. If you are more active then probably 2 or more pairs per year.
Hello, could you do the Jordan One Take 4 PF? thanks in advance. They are back on stock on the nearest store from our place right now. I would like to know how they do before I go and get myself one.
Been watching your vids trying to figure out which is more narrow these or the KD 15? I got the KD's in my tts and I'm getting major foot cramps on one foot even after 10+ wears. Not worried about length at all.
I'm 38 and have 2 pairs of the 20's and i played a lot,its a good good shoe, similar to the kobe 4 the only thing i think that i noticias its that the forefoot zoom unit feels weird and causes nail pain in my opinion
I bought the lebron 20s specifically cuz I'm battling plantar fasciitis. I've only worn them a few times in the house and they seem to make my feet hurt pretty quickly. I'm hoping they break in or I will have to send them back. I switch to PG6's and it still hurts but feels a lot better.

I have the 20s and bought a pair for each of my kids for their middle school basketball league.. the standard insoles are pretty comfortable, but I think I'm going to try the game day pros next... I wanted to go with the vktry golds but they're so expensive
Question that may have an obvious answer...I like to try out various different shoes when I play. However, due to time constraints I usually only play 1 night a week, maybe 2 if I'm lucky. Am I doing myself a disservice by rotating thru different shoes, either for my performance or for my foot health? I do have staples I often come back to or generally wesr more, but I may play in 4 different shoes in a given month. Thanks for the continuously awesome content!
I personally don't think so as long as they're not too dissimilar ( thats how i busted my ankle trying a super protective wide shoe then a super narrow one in the same day)
@@FootDoctorZach thanks! I don't think it's anything crazy different. I prefer low tops so usually stick to those with a mid top here and there. They are usually lightweight, on the narrow side (I do like a nice wide outrigger though!), with good court feel and decent cushioning, although I have tried out a couple more cushioned shoes lately (KD15, as an example).

I probably should just take time off but is there any other remedy or something I can do to help

I have this plantar fasciitis thing for years but it comes and goes. Some day i have some pain some day its not even there. Is there a cause to this? Like even with basketball or no basketball I cant seem to find the pattern
Father Time undefeated….Kobe was bricking towards the end of his years also. Gonna be hard to watch him play next year unless he adopts the post and mid post only.
Most people shoot off their dominant foot, they are not balancing load between feet. A right handed player will get 80-90% of his power from his right foot.
Bet good money Lebron will be playing with more air in his shoes next year. Anytime he has a injury in something and it could possibly be the shoes he runs from it like the plague design wise the next year. Hell if it persists after all star expect to see him in something else.
LeBron only using his left foot to jump for 20 years in NBA now. If he end up taking the 2nd step with his right foot he will take another step which is left foot again to take off hence the reason for him to travel.
dont know man, i wore lebron 11 n it looked flat as those 20's, n it made my left foot sore, probably at this point he jsut tryna sell shoes rather than a all s class shoes
Anthony Davis is averaging 37pts and 20 rebounds his last 3 games wearing the Lebron 20s, so nope it ain’t the shoes. Lebron’s feet are just a lil different and I believe it’s because of the wear and tear of the grueling season, playoffs and all the Finals appearances.
I just had bunion surgery I think Lebron would get another 5+ yrs if he took a year for surgery and rehab P.s. Nike start making shoes with wider toe box and mid foot
@@FootDoctorZach pain sucks but can be played through as long as he’s not risking hurting ankle knees or hips from loss of balance, it caused a ton of weaknesses for me
My lebron 20s have caused me to experience foot pain that I have never had with any other shoes so I'd have to switch to my melos and use my massage gun on my feet after a game or practice
Having played basketball for nearly 20 yrs, it's a given that injuries will affect your jump shot. As a normal athlete, rest is the obvious answer. Plain and simple: Lebron pride needs to take a step back and allow the body to do what it does so he doesn't risk making this a long-term ailment, even if he has something to prove in what might be his last season; else it will be his last season.
It’s absolutely his shoes. Have you seen his hammer toe? Modern shoes, in general, are the problem for most people with foot pain. Because of the elevated heel, the excessive cushion on his shoes, and the “arch support” orthopedic inner sole, his feet are weak. It’s sad that these NBA players are uninformed about what their “footwear” is actually doing to the health of their foot. Humans aren’t supposed to be in these type of shoes. Our feet are beautiful and sophisticated. Why would you want ruin your feet by stuffing it into these horribly designed shoes? I’m extremely passionate about this topic so if what I say seems false, I challenge anyone to look into the damage modern day shoes do to our feet.
He has custom made lasts it has nothing to do with his shoes- bunions and hammertoes are largely hereditary hence why people who go shoeless still get them- feet are designed to walk on sand not asphalt, wood, or concrete - barefoot has merits but it’s not a treat-all or everyone would be making them and marketing the living daylights out of it- I’ve looked at all the research on this countless times- there’s no grand conspiracy - barefoot is good for certain foot types and tibial torsion amounts and not for others
You understand the anatomy of the foot. You are an expert in the field, would you say that arch support sincerely helps people? We have muscles in our feet for a reason. If you don’t strengthen them, they atrophy and with that comes pain and soreness. People get corrective surgery on bunions that, in most cases, can be fixed by eliminating the issue that a narrow toe box creates. And regardless of the fact that his shoes are custom fitted, the design is still the same. An elevated heel creates an unstable base. It creates a misalignment, forcing other muscles to overcompensate. The striking of your heel on the ground can not be done without the cushion the heel provides, so is it natural to the foot? I do not discredit your knowledge. You have worked hard to be in a position that you are today. I do not make this information up. All I want is for people to be aware of the damage caused by the modern shoe.
My guess is, Lebron is really getting old, and the team make up is messing with his routine, he is trying to make plays for everyone and yet they couldnt make any shots and because he is already old, he cant get into rhythm faster than he used to.
Is LeBron's signature shoe causing his bunion? ruclips.net/video/IAA1b3EhsDg/видео.html

I have the 20s and bought a pair for each of my kids for their middle school basketball league.. the standard insoles are pretty comfortable, but I think I'm going to try the game day pros next... I wanted to go with the vktry golds but they're so expensive
I personally wouldn’t put my kid in carbon fiber but that’s just me
Question that may have an obvious answer...I like to try out various different shoes when I play.
I’m a runner, well I do long and triple jump but we run a lot, and I’ve been dealing with achilles pain for a while. I have plush flats and gel pads in my spikes but the problem is constant stress. After warmups and during sprints I feel fine but man after my achilles are toast. They also hurt in the morning and are pretty stiff. I probably should just take time off but is there any other remedy or something I can do to help
I’d have to examine you to say - no idea without seeing it
The cushlon on these is a bit too soft imo.
Just came off an ankle sprain about 4 weeks ago. And tweaked it the 2nd day back from that break😐
Hey doc, do you mind like making videos on bunion and bunionette treatment?
Maybe on my Doctor zach show channel
The giannis were great low tops so I went back to Lebrons with these 20’s. Messed up my feet after one week
Same as mine. I wore freak 4 for a while then change it to lebron. Now im sitting here with heel pain 😢
Dude has been professionally hooping 20 years now. Some pain is to be expected.
I sprained my ankle very badly a little more than a year ago. It hasn't been the same since. When comparing it to my other foot, there is a bump not really of swelling but something where there isn;t one on my good foot. Ankle definetely feels weaker. Any suggestions?
I have the same problem. Nothing u could do really.
I got wide feet so took a while to break in the 20s, but other than that great shoe for guards
Hey Doc! I always watch your videos. Can you a review about the "Best Shoe to Wear with Ankle Braces". That could help us ankle braces user to choose the best shoe with our ankle braces. You can also put to your review component if that is good to put a ankle braces. With that review Doc, you can help us to play through/with our ankle injuries using our ankle braces. Hope you notice this Doc.
God bless doc. Keep Uploading 👏
Ultimate Basketball Shoe Guide Fall 2022/Winter 2023
ruclips.net/video/wOxqgQKM02k/видео.html - in this video I have a list
could you create a video for best basketball shoes for plantar fasciitis?
Yep
Another funny thing is that, AD hasnt broken his ankles again once he wears Lebron 20, but like once in a few matches with KB shoes
I’ve hoop indoor and outdoor also I’m flat footed no arch and haven’t had any issue with this shoe at 5-10 245
bc you are flat footed
I have this plantar fasciitis thing for years but it comes and goes. Some day i have some pain some day its not even there. Is there a cause to this? Like even with basketball or no basketball I cant seem to find the pattern
You’d need an exam to fish it out
Video on puma court rider 2.0?
I had pain in my feet wearing the curry 9s. I switched to this shoe and reduced my play time and my feet and joints havent felt better
Interesting that the cushlon setup was a better fit - cool
@@FootDoctorZach i am a heel striker and very flat footed if that info helps haha.
The traction sucks imo it just picks up dust soooo much!!
Father Time undefeated….Kobe was bricking towards the end of his years also. Gonna be hard to watch him play next year unless he adopts the post and mid post only.
I have a pair and they’re great on my foot
My left arch hurts a lot when I do wear my lebron 20’s
Heel pain after game 😢
Ppl will caption anything for views.
Most people shoot off their dominant foot, they are not balancing load between feet. A right handed player will get 80-90% of his power from his right foot.
Not true. Right handed shooters will majority of the times jump off their left leg.
Do you think I need to buy the nike lebron 20s???
AD is wearing it too, So maybe not the Shoes?
For the past few years lebron is having some issues on his signature shoes he always opt to use his budget models or retro shoes.
Lebron doesn't wear the same shoe we buy in stores yall. It's custom made for his foot.
Mine hurt so bad
I thought these shoes was supposed to be tested in tough conditions. Maybe he should wear Crocs....it's father time season.
Bron should just keep playing with the 20 PE's that uses a much more supportive materials.
Bet good money Lebron will be playing with more air in his shoes next year. Anytime he has a injury in something and it could possibly be the shoes he runs from it like the plague design wise the next year. Hell if it persists after all star expect to see him in something else.
nooo, i wish i saw this video before i bought my 2nd pair
Did you actually watch the video?
Can shoes cause shin splints?
Yeah it’s uncommon outside of the running space but it’s more common for shoe to be slightly better or slightly worse for that vs actually causing it
LeBron only using his left foot to jump for 20 years in NBA now.
If he end up taking the 2nd step with his right foot he will take another step which is left foot again to take off hence the reason for him to travel.
Lebron has played so much basketball this is essentially expected!! But this is a fantastic video
I play in an adult league and lebron 20 don’t hurt my foot at all they actually feel super secure
i’ve had no problems
dont know man, i wore lebron 11 n it looked flat as those 20's, n it made my left foot sore, probably at this point he jsut tryna sell shoes rather than a all s class shoes
Mine too, left foot is in pain after a game especially on my heel
He never wears witnesses btw ;:D
Anthony Davis is averaging 37pts and 20 rebounds his last 3 games wearing the Lebron 20s, so nope it ain’t the shoes. Lebron’s feet are just a lil different and I believe it’s because of the wear and tear of the grueling season, playoffs and all the Finals appearances.
lebron 2os r his best shoe
This is a troll, right? The 20s are made exactly like his Ambassador shoe, which he's worn for the last 4 seasons.
He’s just basketball old. The kicks are light. At least for me.
It's really bc it's yet another knit shoe we don't need 😂
The cushion is way too soft in lebron xx
Softer than any other basketball shoes
Nike needs to stop creating heel-to-toe drops in their shoes.
I just had bunion surgery I think Lebron would get another 5+ yrs if he took a year for surgery and rehab
P.s. Nike start making shoes with wider toe box and mid foot
Not all bunions are the same and not all rehabs are the same- if hes not having pain with it then its a terrible idea
The same problem 😔 heel pain after game
Having played basketball for nearly 20 yrs, it's a given that injuries will affect your jump shot. As a normal athlete, rest is the obvious answer. Plain and simple: Lebron pride needs to take a step back and allow the body to do what it does so he doesn't risk making this a long-term ailment, even if he has something to prove in what might be his last season; else it will be his last season.
Yeah id certainly trade a single long break and gain a few more good seasons of play vs just trying to make it by
It’s absolutely his shoes.
Nothing to do with the shoe imo. Haven’t heard a single bad thing about these shoes yet!
basketball shoes aren't the best for your feet. I would recommend barefoot shoes for everyday use.
Foot bone connected to my shin bone..
Is it though?
@@FootDoctorZach lol
Well he’s also getting older, soooo I think it’s more likely just that.
My guess is, Lebron is really getting old, and the team make up is messing with his routine, he is trying to make plays for everyone and yet they couldnt make any shots and because he is already old, he cant get into rhythm faster than he used to.
