We're out of the Electrifying studio and back on the track for our latest road test with the Jaguar I-Pace.
Can winning awards get boring? If so, the Jaguar team must be yawning fit to bust, because the I-Pace has picked up more than a few. Sixty two, in fact. Including a trio of World Car Awards. Who knew that there were even that many?
And there are excellent reasons for that bulging trophy cabinet. Forget the fact that this is an electric car, because the I-Pace is simply a very good car. It looks cool and modern, but also manages to be unmistakably a Jaguar. Despite the fact that it has a pretty large and heavy battery under its floor, it drives like a Jaguar too.
Starting at £60,995, it’s at the more expensive end of electric cars and you’re not going to get that close to its claimed 292-mile range in real use. But this is a well built, exciting Jaguar for the new world we live in.

I traded in my Tesla for an I-pace. it really is a totally different driving experience. Real leather seats vs "vegan Leather" plastic seats. I would never change back again. Bravo jaguar. Thanks for the review.
It's a shame Jaguar dosnt have the same supercharge infrastructure like Tesla.
@@lucaparker1084 It really is, the car plus charging infrastructure should really be considered as a package. For Tesla the car is 40% of the package but for Jaguar it's 75-80%.
don't you miss the superchargers?
Had one for 6 months and unquestionably the best car I have ever driven or owned
Malcolm Disson yet you only kept it six months?
@@paulsm77 $$$.
@@paulsm77 how long have you had one for??? Your one of those experts who have never owned anything.
stringer 2295 yes I’m an expert who has never owned anything. Well done Sherlock.
Did you ever hear of Tesla ever?
This is just an awesome review i have ever seen so far of any car , i like the way you present it , i like brilliant audio work in great stuff. 10 outta 10
Had mine for 18 months, brilliant car no problems, 5 stars for me.
What is the range like? Im very close to getting one but the reviews on its range are putting me off
@@spoonageDC2 range is good, its just the range anxiety and too much concern over range difference of 10miles which is no big problem if you know how and when to charge your EV
GREAT Review Ginny, thanks for your comprehensive evaluation. There's certainly a lot good about the iPace. Really appreciate your giving us the tour! Also love the fact that (at least in the States) Jaguar's site lets you choose individual items as options (not just all or nothing packages). Very enticing.
You got your wish on the infotainment system. It's been upgraded to a brand new system for cars ordered from June 23rd 2020
It's as if they were watching! Indeed Martin and we have a story over on Electrifying.com about the upgrades. Thanks for your support.
How about a software update for earlier versions?
@@Tensquaremetreworkshop OTA Infotainment upgrades started rolling out about a week ago.
Indeed. We took a test drive and it is now higher up on our list just because of this improvement.
I think a single motor RWD version of this with smaller wheels would get well over 300 miles of range and be amazing! $10K less and faster charging would be nice, too!
Keep up with these reviews, pretty great! Also loved the drone shots!
Any chance of reviewing the updated one in a full review as I feel it satisfies your slight misgivings 🚙🙏🏻
I love your presentation.. This has a high probability to be my next vehicle. 💕
I like that these videos are short. Because of changes with RUclips most channels now have 30 min unnecessary videos.
Saw my first one in the flesh the other day, so much smaller than expected. Lovely.
Pivi Pro, Clear Sight and more effective charging have been introduced. The best just got better!
Nice review.
I missed how much you can pull if you put a hitch on it.
Forget the Ipace, great boots Ginny 😄
@@LTS25623 complimenting someone's shoes is being an asshole? Get over yourself, they're awesome boots!
The really cool thing about the upgrade that increases the range by 15 miles or so is that it came from the racing programme. They gathered data from the one-make I-Pace racing series that supported Formula E races and optimised the battery use from it. People say that racing doesn't improve the breed these days like it did in the 50's when Jaguar first used disc brakes on sports cars. In this case, though, racing did improve the I-Pace.
Love your reviews Ginny.
I was considering it but no sunroof or fully opening panoramic. I need those. If jag include that then one sold.
Great review Ginny your working well.
How’s the maintenance of the I-PACE?
Do check out whether its too wide and too wide a turning circle. The correct dimensions were on the jlr web site, not google. Make sure that you test drive on your usual commute, parking, width restrictions.
As always, great job Ginny! :)
Awesome presentation Ginny. Love your soothing voice and natural looks 😘
I don’t have anything in my bank account but one day I will drive this car. I’m work hard and make sure! 🤞🏾🙏🏾
Id say its more of a wagon than suv/ this would be cool with suicide doors/ wonder if land rover will get a version?
Great review…….but…..just how much do they cost, after all it’s the other question asked after range and battery charge times…..costs are the bottom line….
Really enjoyed your review. Considering giving up my gas gobbling Audi for this electric.
Love the car but my one gripe is that the back seats are not comfort on long trips for people over 6ft.
It is pretty good... yes... especially the range!!!! What is the range exactly??? Or the consumption?
Such a great looking car as a Semi comes flying around the corner.
But, no mention of the ride comfort!! Quiet? Road noise? Suspension/ride??
I wonder how the I Pace compares to the Model Y 🤔
I really like it, dynamically, but after testing the Audi e-Tron, I tested this one in Barcelona (in the 2019 Automobile Fair) and the Audi was way better in terms on interior quality, and way less flashy. This one in the video is discreet, but the one I drove had white all over...
You and the car look good!
Loved It!
Where has your mate Batch ended up ?
Anyone know if this iPace is in Yulong White?
So what's the actual real life range of the car?
Why is this titled 2021 when it's actually from 2020 and about a 2020 car. The 2021 model has significant differences which of course this doesn't (cannot) mention. The review if fine, but why lie in the title.
Underrated car. 😥
How is it underrated with all those awards 😂
I come here for the cars , I stay for Ginny
Solid review, Ginny, pointing out features that has won it so many awards, yet also the quirks that need refining. I like the car, but not as keen on the interior. I'm sure that Jag fans will be thrilled to show their brand loyalty as they transition to all electric. My biggest concern is that, here in the USA, the EPA rates its energy efficiency at only 2.27 miles-per-kW. That's significantly lower than, say… the Hyundai Ioniq EV and the Tesla Model 3 at 4.0 miles-per-kW. In my state, there are only 42 I-Paces on the road, compared to 5,625 Teslas. Jaguar has a lot of catching up to do!
Best looking EV around
I would say it's the most ugly. Couldn't even watch the video till end.
I notice the early ones are now a tad under £40k on the used market. Another five years and they will be affordable without the usual ICE worries of unreliability.
No, but they will have battery worries.
@@Steve-gc5nt Time will tell but I am expecting independent battery refurbishment companies to pop up once there are more 8 year old EVs on the market (plus evidence would suggest battery packs will last more than a decade anyway).
99% on autotrader are over £46k now……might take a while to get affordable? But I guess we’re all super rich now due to government policy.
@@ianjames3078 used EVs have appreciated a lot recently, even the MGs are going up. My SLK is still worth more than I paid for it a year ago too. Crazy chip shortage effects.
nice looking car
If you use one as an Uber would it be a Hail and Pace?
only if da Management agree
@@LoadOShite go on mate..tell them to go back to their country! make Britain great again! 🙈🙈🙈
@@rtfazeberdee3519yes but only if someone in the factory was classed as a pace maker…
It's 2023 and it is still unrivaled
I test drove one last year, and I still think it's the best non-Tesla vehicle available in terms of quality and driving experience. Range and price are another story
How did it compare to a model 3 in your opinion?
This is a proper car. The Tesla isn't. Tacky
@@stringer-ik1pc I was asking the guy who's owned/ driven both, thanks.
Top car from a top class reviewer
2019 Reg but the title says 2021?
Only problem is it’s range and price
2021 review, 19 plate ???
Does it have a retractable sunroof?
No. It's fixed with UV shading built in.
Great video on a super Jag. Well done Ginny.
Had mine now for nearly 4 weeks.
I agree it's hard to "pigeon hole" it
It a kind of Swiss army knife of a car.
The one thing I disagree with is that it took me about 3 seconds to work out the climate controls the second you touch them there is text that appears on the button to tell you exactly what to do
You should come and do a tutorial Matthew, Ginny has driven this car at least ten times and still gets confused by it!
@@Electrifyingcom I agree with Ginny I had my car last week and I still cant work out the climate controls. I have to stop to work out how they operate.
So it is not the latest 2020 Jag with the new infotainment system - number plate is 2019 - why advertise the video as 2020?!!!!
The one with the new infotainment system is the Model Year 2021 model.
I took the plunge and bought one. Great car and so classy compared to most EV interiors
4:02 Driving with charge flap open... :D
I love it
Honestly, I really love the Jaguar I-Pace but what really bothers me is, why the hell Jaguar I-Pace is performing so poorly in Europe or US compared to Audi E-tron even though it is a much superior car in every segment compared to Audi...is it just because of manufacturing capabilities or lagging tech or battery constraints? I seriously don't understand how is Jaguar I-Pace lagging behind Audi (Model 3 understood, but Audi?). Either the dealership or the marketing isn't good enough but is Jaguar taking notice?. Something is not correct. Who is taking responsibility?
First answer: Marketing.
I see tons of advertising of Audi in general every week but ZERO for Jaguar or the I-Pace.
.
Audi's (or souped-up VW's in my book) are a dime a dozen. Most people somehow thing an Audi is a very premium car. Plus that VW is very good in making affordable leasepackages for people, so for most, the E-Tron is cheaper to drive/lease than the I-Pace. Lot's of people who drive a company car get to choose an Audi, but not a Jaguar. So they never even take a look at it.
In my book, the Etron doesn't hold a candle to the I-Pace, wich is why I drive the I-Pace.
£70k SUVs are a fairly vulgar proposition.
@@paulsm77 How much do you think a Model X or Audi e-tron cost? End of the day it is a luxury electric SUV, you do pay for the quality materials and the performance. If price would be a question then can you tell me why people buy Porsche Macan instead of Toyota RAV4 or Honda CRV? Both these vehicles are best in its class and even better mileage than Porsche Macan but Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV cost somewhere around $25-33K but Porsche Macan's standard model starts from $50k and can go up to $80K. Now you if take the comparison into account, your Model 3 is Toyota RAV4 and Jaguar I-Pace is the Porsche Macan. Hope this makes sense.
Long story short, it's because no-one cares about Jaguar, that's the truth. Not domestically, not internationally. The cachet is dead.
@@SM-hc2nz how the feck can you classify this I Pace as a LUXURY vehicle??!
also, you say MUCH superior in every segment compared to AUDI. LOL!
No Jag comes even CLOSE to any AUDI! the only Jags that were superior to AUDI are the ones in 60's and 70's(those were a piece of art)
im no audi fan btw..
How about durability, it keeps the jaguar's tendency to broke down with the years?
Great car, shame about the charging network.
Nice jag❤
All that tech, but hopeless range and is it manually folding door mirrors ?
Thought this was going to be a review, but was more like an advert for it.
'fraid so, as with any other "award-winning" product.
Go and watch something else
Thanks for the review! Would be great if you do a model Y review as well! The future is electric ⚡️❤️🌎
Correct
Totally wrong wrong wrong. We can't even build a new power station nowadays, and until we can EV cannot work.
Steven Vater You should check out Teslas battery investor day next week. I feel that it will be a game changer and may disrupt more than one industry
@@tongtran007 how are all these fantastic batteries going to be charged???
@@stevenvater2681 Very out of date idea. The country is full of people with PV panels etc They bring in energy from the grid & send energy out to the grid. Many are now storing energy & there are people with EVs & PV who are charging the EV with stored energy. In addition, smart charging means most EVs charge overnight when demand is low. The future of the national grid is diversified. They’re now experimenting with offshore wind (the cheapest form of energy production) & stored hydrogen, so the hydrogen can power the grid when its calm. It’s not the 1970s any more 😉
Only downside I read and hear is a lack of charging stations, up to 8hrs charge if this is correct, til more charging stations became available, even at your place of work, to charge whilst working, as person's living in flats, on road parking with no option to charge from a charger fitted to their home's is a issue to resolve in the future of electric or (your local city jag dealership would collect your ev from your home, to take it to the dealership with a charge station at their dealership, for you.. to charge it for 8hrs, and then return it to you once charged up) with a focus on a build of lower charging time's, also, but I love it, and the best styling of a electric car, I've seen at present
Won more awards than any car in history it would seem, accept one. It isn’t selling that well, Audi e-Tron is outselling it and I hear they are discounting it in the USA.
Looking forward great 👍 car 🚘
Hood vent on an electric car ?
Airflow reasons and cooling purposes for the battery and doesn’t stand out like a sore thumb
@@LoadOShite There isn’t a diesel version. The iPace is a ground up, pure EV. There’s a documentary on RUclips about how it’s made.
It’s actually called a bonnet. 😉
The vast majority of the the motoring public have to park on the street, often not even outside their own house, this makes it almost impossible for them to charge an electric vehicle and so completely impractical to own.
The bigger the better, well said
Is it reliable?
Yes, I have had Jag I Pace First Edition from new, driven 29,000 miles with zero issues, apart from the infotainment which is very laggy at times. Also still on the original 22” Pirelli P Zeros after 29,000 miles!
Pls. small capable cars for the city...
Why electric car has a big grille? For cooling? I think designers are little be out of might.
Are you sure? What about BMW i3, Smart for two electric or Porsche and others?
Oh dear, Ginny, "a ... 90 kW unit" when describing the size of the battery is a fail as far as units is concerned! [90kWh]
Of course its an optimistic EV , it is a Jaguar and if carefully driven should eek out a very friendly driving atmosphere, if you can afford its luxury end pricing? Would I have one, well not sure I could fit it into my car-park space but if I won the National Lottery - oh yes indeed.
Ginny says a laggy touch pro duo & not intuitive and needs an update.... at 75K noooo, noooo !!!
Would be more brilliant, if it were cheaper!
3:20
... not a dealbreaker
Me: Yes it is.
Land Rover's infotaiment is known universally as the laggiest / worst system in its class.
The owners are not asking something as good as MBUX.
For $100, Rover can easily put faster chips and add more ram to the system.
It just choose not to.
My iPace is a dream to drive, especially long road trips.
Totally let down by patehtic after sales service and patronisinig dealerships that make out every issue with the car to be the customer's problems. Presently mine is sat on the drive with the heat pump blown, and Jaguar are not interested in even getting diagnostics done for 3 weeks. So sadly, I can only advise avoid buying this great car, due to the near non existent after sales service.
Second time around you must really like it...:)
My Zoe50 does 240-250+ in optimum conditions.
world awards but not that many people in the world can afford it ?
Get some more range if it wasn't running on massive wheels and wide tyres. All that tec any good for a third or forth owner in 8 years or more? I can see a issue soon of the problems getting them recycled in a efficient way, after all they are supposed to be saving the planet.
„Only“100kW DC...
Only one thing Jag don't make it.she must be on commission.
What makes you think bigger the wheels the better.
I have had an i pace since last October. I love driving it but sadly it has been besieged with battery and ‘engine issues’. It has spent 7 weeks off the road so far and on Friday I had to wave goodbye as it left on the back of a tow truck ....... again! 😫
Liar. You use your mom's 15 year old micra
stringer 2295 lol I might have to. Got the car back last week after 6 weeks, drove it down the country and on the way back at around 10:30 pm, the coolant red light came on. Back on the tow truck to the garage. Love the car but not enjoying the continuous breakdowns.
The colour doesn't help it at all. Will it be more reliable than other Jaguar/Land Rover products?
Looks quite nice but with such a poor range we went for a RRS PHEV as then we know we can set off and get back home on long trips. During the week the 30 mile range is more than enough for the daily commute there and back. We avoid on-route charging as most on the motorways, (ecotricity )just fail to work. I guess once we get a reliable charging network it will be worth looking at these small range EVs again....or go Tesla, long range plus a great charging infrastructure, unlike their competitors who churn out cars but ignore the charging bit....obviously that’s someone else’s problem. Been driving EV since 2014, our most impressive one being the Renault ZE50 we get around 230 miles of range...the first one we had did about 80 miles !.
@Charles-Antoine Dumoulin Thing is when our RRS PHEV comes up for renewal in 2022 the replacement will have a much larger electric range or maybe all electric
@Charles-Antoine Dumoulin Our daily drive is 25 miles round trip, the RRS does 30 miles so not an issue. Weekends we tow so use the 2 litre engine saving the electric until we un-hook for local visits. Works really well. We also have a 260 mi pure EV ....our 6th for longer trips, we usually plan round trips with no commercial charging due to the poor state of electric chargers and the scarcity of them (GB). Being experienced EV drivers we always plan our trips taking the right car for the job
The review doesn’t actually tell me or should I say convince me this deserves all those awards. Considering how much the computer is part of EVs, that should mark it down, same with range.
Also, no mention of price!
Battery capacity is 90 kilowatt-hours. (Not 90 Kilowatts). A kilowatt is a unit of power, not a unit of capacity. It is really important to get these details correct. The car's power output is 294 Kilowatts. 394 hp.
What is this fixation about big wheels? I think you said "the bigger the better'. Why? The bigger the wheel, the rougher the ride. I don't get it. Also, realitically a 200 mile range. Come on. It's just too early to buy electric imho. I'll stick with my trusty 9 year old 520 diesel for the moment. 1000 km range and refillable in minutes. Oh and the pumps are NEVER out of order.
England got really wide lanes for their roads.
it’s not a real road
it’s not a real road
Why they didn't call it E Pace I'll never understand? It's a smart looking car, but never sold well in US. Heavily subsidized leases are only way they get rid of them. What's the issue? Poor range compared to competitors, poor charging network and performance is surely lacking. When a Model X is doing 0-60 in 2.8 , about 1/2 of what iPace does, you have to question the logic of buying a Jaguar. Real world iPace range is in the 180-200 range. Less if your running the heat or getting on the throttle.
You could buy 2 I-Paces for the price of a performance Model X and with updates real range is 250.
Hopefully not easy to steal.
Great looking car. You can’t beat a Callum car.
Would be even better if it had a petrol engine in it.
Might be useful then.
I would get an F type SVR
You have to be joking? I skip the advert in the beginning, ok every you tube clown has those, but then another advert pops up like 1 minute later?? You obviously don't want people to watch your videos??
Too expensive for us normal workers or id have one in a shot.
