Que suerte con el contacto Mexicano! That is a great contact with Mexico. Also, I like your QRP camping video. Thank you for the inspiration to incorporate ham radio into your vacations.
Ron C nah I like that planned experimental stuff. I'm embarrassed by the poor audio of the shotgun mic. I've since purchased a small cheap omnidirectional mic and dead cat
I'm sort of surprised too..I've looked at those and almost bought one, but it sounds..."tinny" an inside a tube.....It just sounds funny, I don' have any issues understanding anything.
Ron C no the microphone is excellent. You're supposed to be in front of it. I can be 12 feet away and in front of it it sounds amazing. I sound terrible behind it. It's working as designed
We had wipporwills quite often out near Wentzville when I was growing up. In this comparison between the MPAS and Packtenna, which worked better and why? Any useful hints for deploying the Packtenna? When would you suggest it over the Micro Hybrid MPAS?
I'm going to be honest. The Packtenna or long wire of any brand, works better than anything else I've tested. I think a long wire beats any whip or coil (like the Chameleon) by a long shot. Get a dipole or end fed into a tree and it will work.
The packtenna is 40 feet of wire with a 9:1 UNUN. All you have to do is get one end up about 20 or 30 feet at minimum and you're going to be fine. So do the math on a triangle. 30 feet high (that's not that hard to throw into a tree) and the antenna is 40' (hypotenuse) and you'll be making contacts. You don't have to buy the packtenna. End Fedz makes a lot of end fed long wires. They are easy to put up out in the field because it only needs 1 support. I hope this helps you.
Thanks, it does help. I have a Packtenna, but have been using the various configuration of the MPAS, including end fed. Been also using the 60 foot wire into a tree from the MPAS straight into my Icom AH-4. Just ordered an atheist weight and rope because I've come close to get that expensive wire stuck in the tree when attached to a water bottle. Where did you get or how did you make that painter pole slingshot?
My wife just said "What are you doing"? She could tell I was happy. "He has another camping video" I said. I just love them. Keep up the awesome work. JJK N6NRO
I had one QRO I sold it, a bit deaf and nobody would hear me. I could compare it to a resonant tiny counterpart and that one is a champ! Seems to work for some people though :/
They are great antennas . You need to experiment. I work nothing but QRP and use the whip and whip extension and one counterpoise. I use an Yaesu ft 817nd and 5 watts have reached 6500 miles with it at 2000 ft elevation. Keep working it. Robert K6NFY
Just love your video's. My cw is coming on. De ZS6MSW
Thanks so much!
Another fun video to watch! I cracked up when I saw the catering credit!
Credit to you for getting that joke!!!
Love it. That Chamelean setup is nice. Love the camping.

The bird was a whippoorwill, which is also what their call sounds like.
Reid Lanham ahhh that's one I didn't know. I hear mourning doves a lot
Nice setup! Enjoyed the editing too! You always make some decent contacts!
Ron C thanks I better make some contacts with 2 antennas 10 watts and 5 hours op time lol
lol...yeah! Not to mention some annoying guy in Virginia convincing you to change bands, freq's, etc!...lol

Cam comments like this get me out the door again with my camera. Thank you
Thank god those coyotes where at some distance. Try having one scream RIGHT next to your tent! lmao that will wake you up!
That's the park we were in for Winter Field Day. You can hit the repeater in Eolia, MO. from there. 73
Yeah, I think I did hit that repeater in another video. No one came bac.
@@hamradiocq Oh, that's a shame.
Lucky guy... living vicariously through your videos! 73 de KE2YK
Thanks... More to come.
I've found that a plain old spinning rod/reel with weight will cast over just about any tree.
John Kershaw I found fishing string to be tangley
I’m going to do this
Love that spirit
Cool video! Love the vids! What kind of tent and table are you using?
I think you mean the foldup camping table ( amzn.to/2Wil1IC ) I will add a link in the description. That tent is a Eureka! something or other.
Duck tape both sides of the rip in the tent👍
Agreed!
That repetitive bird is a whippoorwill.....
That repetitive bird is a whippoorwill..... : ) jk
The only thing you forgot to pack for camping is your Glock. Great video..
Oh its there, under the mattress. Sig Sauer 9mm
AnythingWithWheels I was hoping you were going to say that.... Life is short :))
Did you get many looky loos? Sound like a lot of kids in the area.
John Kershaw I did but I waited until they were distracted to hang antenna
Propane and propane accessories.

John Kershaw thanks so much I have fun making them
are coyotes dangerous ? we dont have em here in UK
No..you will never hardly see them. They are like medium sized dogs, scared of humans. Maybe if you were a small child by yourself they could be.
Love the camping setups, I'm just getting ready for mine ;) (These Chameleon antenna are a bit underwhelming aren't they?)
Jonathan Adami I'm coming to that conclusion. They are not qrp antennas
I had one QRO I sold it, a bit deaf and nobody would hear me. I could compare it to a resonant tiny counterpart and that one is a champ! Seems to work for some people though :/
