Good video. Wouldn't you want a mix of early successional growth and woody browse? I have a similar setup as you but lots of young cottonwood, boxelder and willow. The deer are hammering the young free trees as well as the other young plants.

Yes, correct. woody browse is what sustain deer through these late winter months when other browse is limited or non existent.
What herbicide would be used to kill the grasses in the early succession fields?
A 2oz per gallon solution of glyphosate should do the trick!
