Case briefing taking too long?

  • Is Case briefing taking up all of your time in law school? I just started my first year in law school and I’m already making adjustments for the best use of my time.
This is a RAW unedited video during the week 4 of my 1L year, explaining my process of switching from FULL case briefing to what is called book briefing.
I had big plans to post more videos but I simply have not had time for video editing. I do however have quite a bit of content to post. Things may be out of chronological order but the content will be here for you to watch and follow along as I navigate law school as a 50 year old!
    Thanks for watching & supporting!

Do a large number of your law professors not allow computers?

@vanessamax3136 I just watched it! Made my day. I'm considering law school.

@@DearNadia it's not as scary as many people make it sound. However, it does take time and full attention. That's very doable though.

Hi Vanessa! I am 49 and seriously considering applying for law school but don’t know if that is such a wise choice. Would love to know more on your journey, what made you want to be a lawyer, what type do you want to be? Are you taking out student loans, etc. t would love to see more videos from you! Thank you!

Book briefing never worked for me. What I did is write out my briefs in black ink on yellow legal pad pages - when the professor went over the case in class, I would add those notes in red. Then, if other things came up in study group, etc., I would write those notes in blue. Then, once a week, I would use the red & blue notes to update my outlines. My advisor said that handwriting really helps to make concepts stick more than typing. Once I got used to it, my handwritten stuff was much easier to manage.

Also, I started law school at 50, too! Go you!

Yes, I am hand writing my notes. I also use the Cornell note taking system so my page is divided and there’s room left to write in-class notes. I’ve just found that instead of writing out so much, I make those notes in my textbook and then shorter notes in my notebook.
Your method seems very good too.

I got so excited to find your first video and then I was bummed that you were not able to keep the videos flowing. I totally understand but I wanted you to know that we are out here and I for one am seeking the courage to launch an entirely new career at 50+… I hope that L2 is off to a great start!
