  • September 2012; in this part Cliff talks about What's Love Got To Do With It and I lost the name of the interviewer
    transcript
"It was obvious to me that Terry Britten was not going to be my guitarist forever. It was obvious to me that Allan Tarney was going to be a great producer. So I lost them but I didn't because they stayed in touch, they wrote songs for me. Terry Britten wrote Devil Woman and Alan Tarney wrote We Don't Talk Anymore and a bunch of other songs. And in fact, funnily enough, the one song that I missed out on-- Terry Britten sent a demo to my office and it was sent back saying, 'We don't think this is right for Cliff.' And it turned out to be Tina Turner's hit, What's Love Got To Do With It?. So I missed out on that one. I did later [take a crack at it]. It's one of those things. It's such a fabulous song. Alan Tarney had this idea, he said, 'You can't compete with Tina Turner.' He said, 'She's just a huge star in her own right, an icon.' And I said, 'Well, no, I don't know whether I'd want to try that.' He said, 'Look, I've got an idea of doing it more kind of a bouncy, dance track.' And he has this fantastic guitar lick that goes through it. And I just did it my way... just kind of sing the song and give it some respect. I liked our version, but Tina's is just... You know, certain things happen when a record is made by an artist and it's the first one that's ever heard, it's really hard to compete with that. And, again, especially with people like Tina Turner who made not just one hit, but hundreds of them like that."

Thank you, Dear Petra, for your quick answer to my question. I don't understand why Someone decided if this song was appropriate for Cliff.😡 It's up to Cliff to rate the song based on his vocal abilities. I believe that with (at that time) his vocal capabilities, his (as always) wonderful interpretation and smooth dance moves, it would have been a great hit on the US market.. And this is what Tina's song remains. It's a pity, it's a pity. Regards and thank you.❤️🍀🎼😍🤗🥰😘
