I don't think it's right to blame Hugh on play calling as the main reason why we're continuing to lose. The main problem was Hugh didn't get a portal QB, and every other problem stems from that. If we had average QB play, Auburn would be 6-1 right now and the fan base would be showering Hugh with praise. The people blaming Hugh's play calling need to realize that earlier this season, Hugh simplified the offensive scheme two separate times to make it easier for PT and eventually Hank Brown. And still, neither QB was able to perform. So now we're stuck with the worst QB in the conference running an offensive scheme that Hugh has had to dumb down twice in hopes that PT won't throw 5 picks a game in. And defenses coordinators know this about our team, and load the box up, enticing PT to eventually make his routine mistake. This Missouri game showed that the offensive gameplan down the stretch was to "not lose because of PT" rather than to go and win it. So the Hugh hate regarding not getting a better QB is warranted, but I don't think he can physically call a better game with who we have running the offense. Especially with the kicker missing easy kicks, and our "veterans" dropping TD's that go through their hands. At this point in the season, we need to play to sustain talent. I hope PT, Percy Lewis, Robert Lewis, Camden Brown, and Sam Jackson are good at selling car insurance because they shouldn't touch the field ever again. On offense, we must make it a priority to give Hank Brown and Walker White(4 games worth to keep RS) snaps to see if they're capable. For our WRs, KLS should be the only upper classman out there. If we want any chance of keeping the Freeze Four from entering the transfer portal, we have to start them. There's no way a guy of Cam's caliber sees the likes of Jeramiah Smith and Ryan Williams contributing the way that they are and not start to look at his situation negatively. Lastly, having all of our young talent in, provides them with film to improve on, experience, and hope for the future, not only for them, but also the upcoming class.
Hugh is an offensive coach and a self-proclaimed QB developer.............so I don't understand that logic. The QB's have actually regressed in year 2 since Hugh/Nix/Austin took over the offense from Monty. It was Hugh who chose PT in the 2023 portal before the season and chose not to bring in another QB this past offseason. The QB position has been abysmal, but the entire offense has been bad. Hugh continues to allow loafing and there's zero accountability/discipline on this team. Eventually, people need to come to terms that Hugh isn't the offensive innovator that he was hyped to be. We have an offensive head coach and yet we average 15.8 ppg vs Power 4 teams. There's enough talent to be 5-2, but coaching led us the 2-5 record we currently have.
I agree with what you're saying but it all falls on the head coach regardless. Play Calling and QB evaluation are a part of the job. Hugh has not been good period. He is going to have to prove to a lot of fans in the next 5 weeks that he deserves to stay. This is historically bad.
Guys, we don't have an above average QB. Subpar O-line, way below average interior D-line, and young at WR and DB's. That isn't a winning formula. Especially with a coach that is more concerned with recruiting (and I know why), than with game planning and practice. If we don't get at least a top 5 class and win at least 8 games next year, dude has to go. At this point, I'd take "every other coach"...lol.
And if you look at who he’s hired as the OC and DC since he’s been there, it’s like he’s just there to get the bag and make sure his buddies get a bag too.

We aren't good enough to play sloppy and win. Even Bama is finding out they can't any more. We are going to have to execute those plays if we have any chance of winning another game this year.
I don't think you guys understand how hard it is to bring in a new coach and staff and get your players to buy in. That's what Bama is experiencing now. You have to put your foot down day 1 on your expectations as a coach.

Having a first time ever play caller calling plays on first and second down and then having Kent Austin cal 3 down is so not smart.. you use the 1st and 2nd down plays to set up third down.. it's a rhythm and that's not happening doing that....

I love Auburn...I just dislike Hugh. I said it when he got hired...Gus 2.0...but it seems like he's more of a downgrade than Gus. I'd love for Hugh to prove me wrong and win a game in the SEC but it looks like thats not gonna happen this year.

This game against Mizzou wouldn't have been this close if Brady Cook hadn't missed nearly 3 quarters of the game.
Even when Auburn struggles it still has some of the best media/content creators out there.
