- This travel vlog we explore Verona, the ancient Roman city. The Italian streets are stunning and worth getting lost in. The Roman amphitheatre that oudates the collesum in Rome is worth the visit alone. The Arena Di Verona beautifully located in the centre of the city and you can't miss this must visit site in Verona.

We are an English travelling couple who met in Thailand, got engaged in Czech Republic and have continued to travel the world together ever since!
Our most recent challenge was leaving the UK with just £500 between us and the aim to create a sustainable travel lifestyle!
We work online and aim to spread the message of “Earn Less, Live More”, which encourages people to question their definition of success, and to pursue what makes them truly happy instead of chasing only money.
Creating this location independent lifestyle has helped us through depression and given us an incredible opportunity to make our lives more fulfilling. We want others to do the same and join us on this full time travel and digital nomad journey!
So stunning to think those 2000 year old structures have survived through so much and are still standing
I love Verona. Watching the opera at the Arena was an extraordinary experience.
I am an American expat who lives outside of Verona. I agree with you that Verona is a beautiful city.
Cicchetti. That's the Italian tapas you mention. It's lovely. I've always wanted to go to Verona and see a concert or opera in the Colosseum. I've been to Venice and agree, it is magical. ESPECIALLY at night when the hoardes of tourists have gone for the day.You can walk into St Mark's Square as the band at Caffe Florian plays it's last set and it's just you, the band and maybe 25 people. Otherworldly and very safe. Stroll the back streets and canals and stumble into a locals restaurant without pictures or translations on the menu. My favorite place in Italy but only when it's not crawling with tourists - before 9:30am or after 6pm. At night the city is magical. It could be 2019 or 1519, it looks the same.
I absolutely love your vlog. Keep up the great work. I was fortunate when I was younger to travel the world and see and experience amazing things, as a traveler and not a tourist. That's why I love your channel. You travel, you don't tour. You immerse yourselves in whatever culture it is and experience it as a local. That is an experience, not a trip or excursion. Well done. I think you both are brilliant. Safe travels and my admiration!
It's not the Colosseum ...it's the Arena
Watching this 3 years after you posted it, and I agree that Venice is the bomb! Those little crostinis are called cecchetti. Thanks for the tour of Verona, guys, even if I am late to the viewing party. Leaving for Italy in about a week, and although it's not on our itinerary this time around, it will definitely be on our next trip's!
Venice is definitely incomparable to any other city. It’s one of a kind and my favorite. My second favorite is the entire Tuscany region.
Yes, I've heard of it and done it. I'm from Ireland. Those little berries are bringing back memories
we were so surprised by Verona, such an incredible city. LOVE IT
Yes..we did that at school in Grimsby. it's the rosehip plant. the pod is full of hairy seeds, which do the itching.
Love watching you both. You're like friends traveling and sending their vlogs to us who are stuck at work.
I love Italy. There are so many places to see but the one city that struck me most is Florence.
Thank you for showing my Verona to the world ♥️
Those that you called crostini are actually cicchetti, not typical Italian culture but Venetian one as you'll find them pretty much all around the Veneto region and in the neighbouring Friuli Venezia Giulia region :)
Awww I loved Verona. We were there last October and it was still lovely and warm. We stayed near Pescheria and travelled about. Got lost on the Autostrada a few times! We went up to Badia near the Dolomite mountains and took a cable car to the top of Sasso Pordoi. It was amazing! Winding roads all the way and scary to drive at times but the views were amazing. We stayed a night in a chalet in Badia and it was so pretty. Love your video on Verona, brings back happy memories. :)
Verona is beautiful!
Hi beans! IF you ever return to Verona let me know. I'll show you around and take you to the best place to eat
Verona... La mia città...
Italy is so beautiful.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the city i live, you missed some other bautiful place to visit... next time you come !
N-i-c-e video. Verona is beautiful. There are many lovely cities in N Italy, like Siena, Bologna. I'm waiting for the wine tastings!
Yes it does come from the rose hip, it’s the part inside once it’s dried out.
Such a pity you didn't visit Trieste! Right between Slovenia and Venice: an Italian gem with a taste of Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Yes and Trieste is not on the mass tourist hot list - lol
Had to look at the map after you last video and find Verona. Been to Italy before but you’re right everybody goes to Venice and Rome. Beautiful area you’re in and a great video. Thanks so much for sharing your adventure. Wow, your subscriber numbers are going up!
Verona looks beautiful. Now we're bummed we didn't do a day trip there when we were in Italy last year. Great vlog you guys👌- Trevor
6:00 those are the tombs of the Scala family, the rulers of Verona in the middle-age (1262 until 1387), they haven't founded the city, it was already estabilished way before III century b.C.
That "itching powder" plant here is called "Rosa Canina".
It's a wild variety of rose. Many garden breeds come from it.
There is a small hotel in the courtyard of the juliette balcony, in the evening the main gates are locked so you have the courtyard to yourself, its a lovely place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine
Verona is a beautiful city, but my favourite Italian city has to be Siena. Unique shell-shaped main piazza where they hold their horse race - Palio di Siena - twice a year. Bellissimo! 😀
That’s a rose hip. We used to make stink bombs from the black wattle seeds. Crush and add a bit of water, the smell is a sulphurous stink!
I totally remember the itchy power stuff from these things! Was at school in the 90s/early 2000’s in Devon if that helps !
Lovely description of these beautiful places.
Gosh. Just stunning. 😍 Coming from Philippines which is relatively a young country and most buildings from 15th & 16th century were destroyed during WW2, seeing places like this through your vlogging cam amazes me & inspires me to travel more. Solid content, Beans!
Best outro yet! Your linguistic vernacular will never cease to amaze me
Willies!!! All the historical facts you need right there! Loved this video guys - Verona looks very cool. We didn't know about the crostini/wine places - sounds yum and right up our street 😍
Amazing to see Verona without the tourist crowds but then again it's Winter so that makes a difference. Rome has to be my no.1 city in Italy without a doubt but I'd never go there in Summer when I know it can be unbearable with heat and overcrowding.
Call me sad but it gives me a little tingling of pride as a Brit to see Shakespeare is part of the story of such a beautiful city.
check, no need to visit Verona. You did that for me. Mille Grazie. Watched your vlog and now need to re-watch the abble-cider-show....
9:00 "Verona is Venice without canal", also without crowds.
We visited both Venice and Milan multiple times, but not once made a stop in the middle to visit Verona, quite regrettable.
They are rosehips, Jay used to do that in school too.. I've never heard of it 😂 glad it never happened to me. Just used to chuck those sticky plants (cleavers) on each other!
LA philippines
... i loved ur videos! it's informative sharing ur experiences how to travel, foods and beautiful locations. I think this my first time to comment ur channel saying GOODLUCK, ENJOY AND TAKECARE ALWAYS! GOD BLESS!
we can see your worked harder on this video! Italy is definetely on our wishlist for this 2019! ;)
Alex, so sorry the chap from endless adventures didn't appear on that balcony for you while filming. You must be gutted. Never been to Italy yet.Always think of it as very expensive, but it seems you can do it pretty reasonably. As for UK maybe Cotswolds and definitely Ireland should be on your list.
Verona is beautiful, we got a chance to go for our 1 year wedding anniversary. We did it as a day trip and it was hot, but it looks super beautiful at night! Hope you guys are well! Love the video as always : )
You guys have to visit the Amalfi Coast...Truly the most spectacular place on earth!
Verona is on my list to go/visit✈😉❤
Thanks for another funny video; I laughed. We used to collect rosehips as school kids. They used them for the vitamin C.
😍 Verona is lovely. We didn't go in the colosseum 😮, wish we had now. Did you go up the steps to Piazzale Castel San Pietro? So many steps but so worth it 🙂. We did a road trip years ago. Lucca and Siena are lovely to but my favourite city was Florence 😍.
loving the videos, one thing I've noticed recently is that the music inbetween seems so much louder than when you are speaking - might just be me but keep having to adjust the volume.
100% remember the itching powder! Haha. So brutal yet effective 😂 keep living your best life. Love the videos
Yey! Filipino here watching your vlog. 😊
Lovely vid. Am a huge fan, Have you tried Lucca?
hey... when are u two coming back here in the philippines? im waiting....
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Verona is so beautiful!
Which hotels/accommodations would you recommend in Venice, Verona, & Rome?
I wish to travel there someday.
Thank you for sharing😊
This is probably a million years too late but we had itching powder in my primary school and that was in Scotland, think the pods are called rose hips, not sure if it is to do with normal roses or not.
Really cool this place in Verona! great video :)
Yeah, rosehips were great fun. Well, not for the poor victim. Bahaha. Alex, your school was probably too posh to have them 😉.. I went to Verona back in 1983 with school when we were on a skiing trip. Had my photo taken on the steps of the very amphitheatre you went to.
😂 the second time was perfect 😆😆
I'm Italian, I also tend to prefer smaller towns (like Verona, but also smaller), also because - while they might have less grand or less famous art(famous is the crucial word here) they might be more enjoyable and still have lots of beautiful or historical things
luckily the country have plenty of nice smaller towns almost everywhere, I'd really hope that tourism could also start to spread outside the most famous spots...
I tend to know the north and center better, thus i'll mention a tiny bit of those : Siena is probably my favorite alongside Venezia, not only for the looks and the art but because for some reason I personally feel good every time I go; it goes well with... me, personally 😆
but I have to also mention Mantova (i like both the quiet center, ducal palace and especially Palazzo Te), Ravenna (ostrogoths and mosaics!), Urbino, Vicenza (Palladio; somewhat reminiscent of Verona as a general feeling); Orvieto and Perugia; Lucca (but in general in Tuscany and Umbria you cannot go wrong, from Lucca/Pisa south/east), for lakes I really enjoyed a trip to the relatively unknown Maggiore with the gardens and tiny, tiny borromean islands (Isola Bella feels like a carillon, with white peacocks), etc etc etc; the further you venture outside the usual , the more you'll find surprising art and architecture
for the South, I have to mention two things at least: honestly I enjoyed more my stay in Naples than in Rome (even though my personal taste in art and history favor the things in Rome, but barely, and again: my stay in the Naples area was more enjoyable) and the Reggia di Caserta (almost nobody outside Italy knows there's a versailles-style palace in Italy)
VENETO IS STUNNING REGION , PADOVA , VICENZA , BURANO , TREVISO ,VENEZIA VERONA , BELLUNO ECC
We have those whatever it is (seed ?) here in the Philippines, but it's not like on that small plant, here they grow on trees and when you rub it on your skin it is very itchy and red
Milan for me but Verona is right up there too 👍
We totally agreed with the Juliet balcony.... it lost the romance and felt very touristy
Shocked, one of the best places Emmamma has been to 😂 I'm interested to know what wild animals where sent into the colosium can't imagine Italy had many tigers roaming around back in the day but don't worry I'll use Google myself for that. #beansout
Love your videos!
Guys, do you have plan on going to and featuring the COOK ISLANDS?
Verona ❤️
nice Ancient place 👍
The noble family of the Scaliger (also Scaligeri, from de Scalis or della Scala) were Lords of Verona. When Ezzelino III was elected podestà of the commune in 1226, he was able to convert the office into a permanent lordship. Upon his death the Great Council elected as podestà Mastino I, who succeeded in converting the signoria (seigniory) into a family inheritance, governing at first with the acquiescence of the commune, then, when they failed to re-elect him in 1262, he effected a coup d'état and was acclaimed capitano del popolo ("people's captain"), at the head of the commune's troops. In 1272 Mastino was killed by a faction of the nobles. The reign of his son Alberto as capitano (1277-1302) was one incessant war against the counts of San Bonifacio, who were aided by the House of Este. Of his three sons, Cangrande I inherited the podestà position in 1308, only the last shared the government (1308) and made a name as warrior, prince and patron of Dante, Petrarch and Giotto. By war or treaty he brought under his control the cities of Padua (1328), Treviso (1329), and Vicenza.
Cangrande I was succeeded by his nephews Mastino II (1329-51) and Alberto. Mastino, the richest and most powerful prince of his generation in Italy, continued his uncle's policy, conquering Brescia in 1332 and carrying his power beyond the Po. He purchased Parma (1335) and Lucca (1339). But a powerful league was formed against him in 1337: Florence, Venice, the Visconti, the Este and the Gonzaga all joined, and after a three years’ war, the Scaliger dominions were reduced to Verona and Vicenza.
His son Cangrande II (1351-59) was a cruel and suspicious tyrant; not trusting his own subjects, he surrounded himself with German mercenaries but was killed by his brother Cansignorio (1359-75), who beautified Verona with palaces, provided it with aqueducts and bridges, and founded the state treasury. He too killed his other brother, Paolo Alboino. Fratricide among the Scaligeri, when Antonio (1375-87), Cansignorio's natural brother, slew his brother Bartolomeo, aroused the indignation of the people, who deserted him when Gian Galeazzo Visconti of Milan made war on him. Having exhausted all his resources, he fled from Verona at midnight (October 19, 1387), thus putting an end to the Scaliger domination.
His son Can Francesco attempted fruitlessly to recover Verona (1390). Guglielmo (1404), natural son of Cangrande II, was more fortunate; with the support of the people, he drove out the Milanese, but he died ten days after, and Verona then submitted to Venice (1405). The last representatives of the Scaligeri lived at the imperial court and repeatedly attempted to recover Verona by the aid of popular risings. After the Scaligeri had been ousted, two self-proclaimed members of the family, Giulio Cesare della Scala (also known as Julius Caesar Scaliger) and his son Joseph Justus Scaliger, made a reputation as humanist scholars, though their relationship to the historic Scaliger family has been disputed.
The church of Santa Maria Antica in Verona is surrounded with the tombs (arche) of the Scaligeri in the form of Gothic shrines, or tempietti, enclosing their sarcophagi: Cangrande della Scala is memorialized with an equestrian statue; Cansignorio by a marble Gothic monument by Bonino da Campione, 1374.
Cicchetti. They are called this, not crostini. 😇

Good editing in this video! Do you guys both work on the editing for each video? or is it like an Alex-edited vid vs an Emma-edited vid. Nevertheless, I do notice some upward evolution in the editing game! ;-) Thumbs up guys! =D
