Brian: "Top of the pops was very fun, glamorous girls dancing, becoming part of public consciousnes..." Roger: "It was very uncool. It was rubbish." LOL
they said TOTP was always had 2 sides for them. One you have to badly mime but Second it’s the only outlet for them at that time to be famous 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♀️
But it's all true. That was always the thing with TOTP. Always kind of cringeworthy (except when one was about 12 years old!) due to the miming, the naff dancing and (for some reason) an always slightly dejected looking audience - yet, it was THE main medium - almost the only weekly TV show, really for many years, where a band or artist could showcase their work to the masses in the UK, and get a real toe in the door of major chart success. So you did get great acts appearing on there, despite it being so uncool (as Roger said). It was just a really important show to be on, if you wanted mass audience recognition (as Brian said).
@James Rundle. Due toy ignorance of Queen in the 80s at least (was born in 1970), I have yet to explore all of Queen's songs. Apparently, my ex boss whattsapp me a month ago to say that he has ALL OF QUEEN'S VINYL RECORDS. Unfortunately, he hadn't even the time to go to any of Queen's concerts. 😲. I don't get it. He lived in UK growing up. 😔 At least I can ask him tonnes of questions.
Taking an already great 'outro' to their fist album and turning it into the hit that everyone knows and loves. Freddie layed the bones, Brian put on the flesh, John and Rodger were the constant nervous system.
Необычайно гениальная музыка! Величайшее исполнение! Насмотреться и наслушаться не возможно! Каждую свободную минуту рука тянется включить любимую музыку Queen! ФРЕДДИ это величайший вокалист! Любимый и не повторимый!
I would not be surprised if, in a living room sometime in the last forty years, somebody ran a Dungeons & Dragons game set in a world inspired by Freddie's various 'Rhye' songs. It'd be great to know if he'd written down more about that setting than we just get in a few songs.
Wow! Thanks: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogre_Battle:_The_March_of_the_Black_Queen This is why making comments online can be awesome and come back to reward you months later. :)
It's a very beatiful album.. so fabolous. When I've heard for the first time I was a little boy and it makes me dream. Those parts of chorus was very strangers
It's impossible to pick a favorite song from Queen. It's equally as hard to pick a favorite album or track off each album. So I've got many favorites off each.
I COMMAND YOUR VERY SOUL YOU UNBELIEVERS/I WILL DESTROY ANYMAN WHO ABUSE MY TRUST THE BEST LRYICS EVER WRITTEN IT JUST PROVES WHY FREDDIE IS A LAP OF GODS👑❤️👑✊🏾
Greatest Queen album and somehow overlooked by most of America. They, somehow think Bohemian Rhapsody was the only time they “went there”. “Black Queen makes bohemian Rhapsody sound like a cakewalk in my opinion (still love it, don’t get me wrong)
It's odd hes implying he only had a riff but only says he thinks he did most of the middle 8th solo apparently Though everyone says Freddie composed first then did lyrics And its noted the one time he didnt (Other than when he was really ill)
Freddie Mercury is the only rock god who would steal your man and your girl at the same time but you would still love him because hes freddie fucking mercury and hes so hot
My all time favourite album. Everything Queen made after this although often exceptional was never this complete. IMHO, Seven Seas is the weakest track and its brilliant! Sheer Heart Attack was almost but not quite as good an album.
Songs in this album, is very Queen. For me it's like their character.. and look at Freddie ...!!!!! I don't like much songs after the 80s... They lost their way there a little bit.. i think.
first of all, the real queen! secondly... (and i know many could hate me for this... but i'm still convinced Brian is an intelligent man who can understand me...) i'm really fed up of how he always underlines how he did this, he created that, in Freddie's or others' songs... how many times did the opposite happen? what about Another one bites the dust? if it was for Brian, this masterpiece would not exist... sometimes his words make him appear presumptuous...hope he's not. I'm sorry, but i'm a bit angry of how things are going with Queen now. I lived side by side with Queen music, and Freddie.. it helped me so much in my life that sucks...and now i'm really disappointed.. I'm ready to all ur negative answers, i understand... but pls try to talk with respect...thx
To be honest, I feel the same about him but respect him also off course. Mack has said similar things about Brian in numerous interviews. Now he is eventually the leader of the band and it seems that feels very comfortable with this role.... yea, and I am also disapponted about how things are going with Queen last years
I hear that from Brian, too. The way I interpret his remarks is that the tension between Brian and Freddie was very real and probably the well-spring of the band's creativity and the breadth of their music. Freddie sounds pretty presumptuous too, to me, talking about he knows just what he wants the others to do.. Two big talents, two nice-size egos, and two very different human beings trying to work together. In the end it worked and gave us glorious music. Given that Brian was the last person recording with Freddie at then end, I suspect there was a deep respect and affection underneath the very real competition. Just another point of view.
I agree with you. There was a rivalry among them and Brian's ego and self esteem is high. Parkviewmo made a good point about Freddie being presumptuous especially during their first years. Sometimes it might look like Freddie took all the credit and did not express sufficient appreciation mostly to Brian and he did prioritize others over him. From an album Miracle they started sharing songwriting credits as Queen that was major breakthrough on professional and personal level.
I admire that Roger Taylor is always straight forward in interviews (even more so on the DVD commentary tracks)
Brian: "Top of the pops was very fun, glamorous girls dancing, becoming part of public consciousnes..."
Roger: "It was very uncool. It was rubbish."
LOL
Maybe Roger referred to the playback thing BBC imposed.
John Deacon: I'm relieved. Perfect performance!
they said TOTP was always had 2 sides for them. One you have to badly mime but Second it’s the only outlet for them at that time to be famous 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♀️
Rog is a Debbie Downer

Still my favourite Queen album
My favorite album too! Also thank you for teaching me Ogre Battle. :)))))
+Hunter Curtis cheers man 😀
Joe Michaels there's a version of music and lyrics only
@James Rundle.

James Rundle hello james!
when roger said “it was kind of rubbish because we weren’t actually playing” reminded me of the “tHiS iS thE BbC”
fabiola_lala it does 😂😂
XD Queen Will Know
I love how Brian's and Rogers views vary so much on Top of the Pops
trey I'm Roger
John: I'm relieved. Perfect performance!
The March Of The Black Queen....! their best song in my opinion
One of the best songs of all time. Even on the the level of classical music.

I prefer Liar from Queen I
Scratch I prefer Nevermore from the same album Queen II but I love March of the black queen too

Queen's early albums, now that's rock, they knew what the they hell they were doing. I'm 58 years old now & still listen to them like it's 1975
I fell excited whenever I heard The March of The Black Queen start playing
same
Gosh I love Queen II. I listened to it again after several months of abstinence and I could have sung through the whole fucking album.
side two is the best sequence of tracks on any album ever. Transitions like liquid gold
Don't forget Abbey Road. Anyway, I think Queen II is Queen's "Abbey Road"
Shaun Tan u mean the Black Side
One of my fav Queen songs. They are just brilliant. You will 4 ever live in our hearts Freddie!!
I absolutely love them. The boys were creative and original with their music. Freddie was magical and beautiful.

Yes, I said it !!!!!!!
Taking an already great 'outro' to their fist album and turning it into the hit that everyone knows and loves.
Freddie layed the bones, Brian put on the flesh, John and Rodger were the constant nervous system.

Queen one ( debute) is still their best and most heavy album. Perfect.
Freddie-"Try to bounce it left and right
Roger-Then blast it
"Now bounce 'Ahh" to Left and Right"
and then dead center for the last. THEN BLAST IT!
Only in Stereo
Masterpieces. Great job. Thank you.

I like the music. Wow

FREDDIE MERCURY WAS A VERY HANDSOME MAN ESPECIALLY AT 1:41 TO 2:29 AND AT 3:12 TO 3:29👑❤️👑

The famous BBC. QUEEN (Roger) has hated. But finally TOTP HELP THEM TO BE MORE RECOGNIZED (Sorry for my bad english) from France. A true fan of QUEEN

Greatest Queen album and somehow overlooked by most of America. They, somehow think Bohemian Rhapsody was the only time they “went there”. “Black Queen makes bohemian Rhapsody sound like a cakewalk in my opinion (still love it, don’t get me wrong)
"This is the bey bey sey"
to be honest, i'm just waiting for the full colour totp seven seas of rhye, especially their second appearance.
It's odd hes implying he only had a riff but only says he thinks he did most of the middle 8th solo apparently
Though everyone says Freddie composed first then did lyrics
And its noted the one time he didnt
(Other than when he was really ill)

Shame no one seems to play Seven Seas any more.

i completely agree with you. I still think they could make one last album of their unreleased stuff though. Just for Queen fans to listen too.
+Nate Wilson thanx for understanding Nate 😊
