@@CrispyIsDispy i presume they mean in terms of optimal placement and source volume levels for the best sound, not stuff to worry about with a standard desk setup
As someone who wants to get a Shure sm7db myself, I've done a fair amount of research about the mic and what i will say is the mvx2u xlr-usb aka the adapter he had so much trouble with sucks ass no-one should buy it. Instead you can buy a audio interface. There is an audio interface called the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and it's about the same price as the adapter. All you do is plug xlr cable from the mic into the audio interface and a usb cable goes from the audio interface to your computer. Btw if you're wondering what the difference between a shure sm7b and a shure sm7db is well long story short. The shure sm7b was made for singers, not streamers so the mic is very very quiet. If you out of the box plug it up to an audio interface it's very quiet so to amplify the sound people bought a $150 piece of equipment called a cloud lifter. In 2021 or 2022 shure noticed that streamers really like the shure sm7b so they made a version that cost $100 more called the shure sm7db that has a built in cloud lifter. If you get a shure sm7db you don't need a cloud lifter, just plug it into an audio interface.
In my opinion an sm7b/db is almost certainly overkill for most people After a few years my sm7b's cable (the one part of the mic itself) broke and i picked up a Neat King Bee II to replace it, and while being less than half the price, i can't tell any difference in audio quality, the tone is just a bit brighter
Some more powerful audio interfaces can run the Shure sm7b no problem. I'm pretty sure that the focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th gen can actually run it out of the box. The noise floor isn't great though with this setup.
You don't really need a cloudlifter, compression and enough gain will do the trick just fine if you have a half decent interface. I'm currently using an RE20 (which is similar in gain needed to an SM7b) and it's doing just fine on a Behringer 18i20. Also, the SM7b uses the same capsule as a SM58 or SM57 which are both $100 on Sweetwater. They also need significantly less gain and are built tough as hell, I'd honestly get one of those if I were you.

Shure SM7-b and SM7db are mics for people who know somewhat about audio and what to do with it. HyperX is for people who want to plug it in and go record. Hyperx loses in sound quality per dollar, but wins in convenience (although sound quality per dollar isn't a linear proportion, a mic twice as expensive will give you like 10-20% better audio quality at best if you're above 100$)
although the fact that it jiggles in the way as it's shown here seems like a manufacturing defect. I have a Shure SM7b and it doesn't jiggle like that. Only the nut should jiggle a little

Spiff Being a Simple man with The simple needs for his microphone XD I Use the K688 from Fifine, it works for me cause it’s like the Quadcast Adaptability with the touch Setting and you can use it with a USB cord Absolutely Perfect review Btw
I have a hyperx solocast and it's more than enough for casual Discord calls. Far better than the attached to headphones one but still not overpriced with a good quality.
This is literally the difference between professional gear and prosumer gear. You're lacking the: XLR cord to cover the distance to your plug and adapter, and to wrap it around your mic stand, (XLRs cover ABSURD distances, like, football field levels) But namely they can connect to another thing you're lacking: A mixer! You use it to do all the fancy stuff like, on the fly balancing, fades, custom effects and panic mutes, as well as manual noise gates! And the other thing you're lacking: The specialized key set to actually tighten the mic's holder lmao. All of this costing, simply absurd amounts of cash, which would be covered under professional use (Tax write offs woo!) and Justified when we're talking about boom poles of truly absurd length for in the field filmmaking. This is not what you need, obviously, we are looking for prosumer tech. Shit that's cheaper and does the Job with less steps and a few less bells and whistles. Plug and play type beat.
Allen screws are very common, and in this case make complete sense since most allen keys work on both sides, and one side is a short 90 degree bent side so it would fit in there. They are used way more often than youd think
i have a hyperx quadcast s and recently me and some friends got our other friend one because its so simple, so straightforward, and the cable is soooo nice length wise. seriously cant believe how much of a shill i sound like rn lol but truly! i love this mic and my friend likes theirs now too!! the biggest hyperX downfall is their Ngenuity software with colour control and the like, but thankfully its functional without that. still a bit annoyed that i (and many others) cant customize the lighting but overall not too big of a deal ig T-T also adding that its bc of u and many other streamers that i got this mic! since i saw ppl who had nice audio use it i thought "well surely it'll sound good for me too!" and it does!
While I think that streamers don’t really need good microphones, the usb cable being too short and the thing jiggling aren’t supposed to be problems. The interface is not intended to be connected directly to the mic, you’re supposed to run a cable from the mic to it. And also I don’t think that yoke thing is supposed to be loose and rotate and jiggle, I think you just got a defective unit. And if you do want a mic upgrade that is USB, BEACN makes a good one you could check out. Or if you want to give the SM7B a second chance, there are a whole slew of XLR interfaces targeted at streamers that’ll probably work better than the Shure one.
That looked like a Shure microphone in your review. I'd honestly look at picking up a Shure MV7, it's what I use and I honestly have no complaints about it. What's really cool is you can keep using Mirco USB (looks like the newest version might be USB-C) to keep using it with your computer directly, or it's also got an XLR connection so you can eventually upgrade to that standard eventually if you want. It's also got 1 flat base for the connections and then the little arms that connect it to your mic stand. I haven't had any real issues with mine, and it's not got a massive mute button on it, but it's big enough that you can hit it with practice. I hope this helps at all.
Kind of funny that I got the same mic, because of you! So, if anyithing, the HyperX half-marketing strat might (not) work! I really only bought it because you and another streamer that I watched used it, and the audio quality was pretty nice. Now, I use it for everything. Even on the go.
actually bought the hyperX (the newer version with more colors etc) cause i wanted a new one and was debating if i should by the hyperX and saw you use it, so i bought it (+ arm) and i am happy now
Hey, Spiff I'm hoping your mic issues were resolved but if you do need a replacement suggestion, I'd suggest the one I'm rocking. It's a Fifine AmpliGame AM8, it's both digital and analogue (XLR) and comes with a 6-foot-long cable for digital use. It's about 55 USD or 78? CAD without an included arm or XLR cable and has all, if not more of the same features the HyperX microphone you're using has. It's got a touch sensitive mute button in a sensical place with a light indicator showing if you're muted or not, audio monitoring through the 3.5 mm headphone jack, a touch sensitive light switcher (hold it to turn it off if you don't want the light) and it's easy and simple to use. I've been using it for a few months now and I haven't heard a single complaint from friends and others about audio gain/quality.
I do actually recommend the HyperX Quadcast that Spiff uses. Tap to mute or unmute and it's lit up when it's active. I recommend getting a pop filter as well, helps protect the mic and softens harsh P's and T's when talking.
Honestly for how nice the SM7b is you can get a pretty much equivalent mic for a fourth of the cost, XLR or USB. For most streamers and creators the SM7b is insanely overkill and the Quadcast is more than good enough for most people, there's other good USB mics too that are dynamic like the SM7b but still a fourth of the cost
Not quite the same but i bought HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless headphones recently because i knew you use HyperX products (As well as doing my own research). I probably never would have considered them otherwise, so I'd say you are owed a new microphone!
the SM7B is a studio-grade microphone, it's only applicable in things like podcasts because they have dedicated multi-track setups. Definitely just stick to USB mics if you want plug-and-play
You’re not wrong, no one at the end of the day really pay attention to what you sound like. I mean look at H20Delirious, he been having a shitting mic for years and it sounds perfect for his channel. And when he got a better mic, no one liked the change so he changed back.
i bought the same mic that spiff has (but in white) because i saw it in all of his videos, liked the quality, and wanted the same for myself. hyperx sponsor this man
ive used the Quadcast S for so many years, its the best quality mic for the price and it only uses a USB C cable! better than a valve index vr microphone
had a super old but really good hyperx headset hand-me down that worked for yearrsss. Yes, the mic quality went to shit, but it worked for when I needed it to.
As someone who is heavily inspired by spiff content wise i can confirm if hyperX got him a new mic i would buy one to replace my current one no questions asked
As someone who has that Shure SM7B I can assure you if you kept going down that route, you'd find that XLR to USB adapter didn't have enough juice to get any audio from it. Then you would've needed a CloudLifter or an audio interface with a good enough amp- so like some new Focusrite or something. That mic is good, but I think it's not a good mic for streaming and RUclips. It's just unnecessary for the use cases.
ive had this mic as a first stand alone the hyperx quadcast s same as spiffs mic its just a really good easy mic for not to much better than blue yetti ect
idk, you could’ve got an actual interface, with a long xlr cable for the price of that little shure adapter. the elgato interface is pretty simple. i just think you went the wrong route in terms of how you were setting this all up. but i kinda like the open sound the hyperx has on you. idk how the dark shure sound would’ve treated you
I have a cheap ass rip off of the iconic Spiff mic. It has a similar structure, mute function, on/off RGB light, volume regulation. It's USB/type-C and I can connect my headphones to get super hearing + listen to how I sound. I'm really enjoying my current experience and the original must be even better. If I weren't broke and was just considering buying a mic I'd absolutely get it upon your recommendation.
I entirely bought a HyperX QuadCast because of spiff and like It was one of the best decisions of my life. I went from a shitty £30 mic to it and this one works so much better
not sure how good the newer versions of your mic are gonna be considering how much companies love to enshittify things these days to meet their stupid impossible standards of continuous growth
I bought a hyperx quad cast s and it is great, when it turns on when my pc turns on. It doesn’t turn on ever, then I have to unplug it and plug it back in, go into my pc settings and set it as the default device again, and set it as the default device in games and applications. There is no fix for this rn and hyperx refuses to acknowledge it. Still like the mic tho 😊
literally bought the hyperx quadcast because of you it works wonders has all the things i need/want i found a 40eur mix that had the tap to mute feature, but i cant guarantee sound, so why not spend 120eur on something that i can guarantee works well and has everything i want

I Use the K688 from Fifine, it works for me cause it’s like the Quadcast Adaptability with the touch Setting and you can use it with a USB cord
Absolutely Perfect review Btw
Bought a quadcast years ago because of spigg, its goated (hyperx please give me my family back)
I misread "microphone" as "microwave"!
They are used way more often than youd think
i have a hyperx quadcast s and recently me and some friends got our other friend one because its so simple, so straightforward, and the cable is soooo nice length wise. seriously cant believe how much of a shill i sound like rn lol but truly! i love this mic and my friend likes theirs now too!! the biggest hyperX downfall is their Ngenuity software with colour control and the like, but thankfully its functional without that. still a bit annoyed that i (and many others) cant customize the lighting but overall not too big of a deal ig T-T
also adding that its bc of u and many other streamers that i got this mic! since i saw ppl who had nice audio use it i thought "well surely it'll sound good for me too!" and it does!
Shure does make really great audio stuff, the SM7B that you ordered is commonly used in studios for professional music
Spiff trying to pose for the thumbnail looks like he's trying his hardest not to bust out laughing
This game is my new subway surfers
Kind of funny that I got the same mic, because of you! So, if anyithing, the HyperX half-marketing strat might (not) work! I really only bought it because you and another streamer that I watched used it, and the audio quality was pretty nice. Now, I use it for everything. Even on the go.
now to wait and see if our spiff can pull a big fish
Spiff and other RUclipsrs is actually why I got a hyperx mic. So they 100% owe you so much
actually bought the hyperX (the newer version with more colors etc) cause i wanted a new one and was debating if i should by the hyperX and saw you use it, so i bought it (+ arm) and i am happy now
Hey, Spiff I'm hoping your mic issues were resolved but if you do need a replacement suggestion, I'd suggest the one I'm rocking.
Idk what microphone i need can anyone suggest me smth?? Im planning to stream around Christmas time :0
I do actually recommend the HyperX Quadcast that Spiff uses. Tap to mute or unmute and it's lit up when it's active. I recommend getting a pop filter as well, helps protect the mic and softens harsh P's and T's when talking.
I ended up getting a hyper x Quad cast because I saw you using it, Its a really nice mic for a decent price
If you want, shure sells a mic that is usbc and a little smaller and cheaper than the sm7b.
i never knew you had same mic as my sister, i used it with her and its fun and easy to use once i get my room clean i need to buy one
Actually bought this mic cuz liked how you sound so uh.. yeah great mic :D
Was waiting for this vid lmao
Not quite the same but i bought HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless headphones recently because i knew you use HyperX products (As well as doing my own research). I probably never would have considered them otherwise, so I'd say you are owed a new microphone!
the SM7B is a studio-grade microphone, it's only applicable in things like podcasts because they have dedicated multi-track setups. Definitely just stick to USB mics if you want plug-and-play
Thank you for sharing!
You’re not wrong, no one at the end of the day really pay attention to what you sound like. I mean look at H20Delirious, he been having a shitting mic for years and it sounds perfect for his channel.
And when he got a better mic, no one liked the change so he changed back.
i bought the same mic that spiff has (but in white) because i saw it in all of his videos, liked the quality, and wanted the same for myself. hyperx sponsor this man
I did buy a quadcast because of spigg i can hard vouch for him, genuinely good microphone and I'm happy I got it thank you spiff
Perfect moment when i was looking for what mic spigg is using
ive used the Quadcast S for so many years, its the best quality mic for the price and it only uses a USB C cable! better than a valve index vr microphone
i actually got a hyperX because i saw spiff using it and knew what the quality would be already from that
had a super old but really good hyperx headset hand-me down that worked for yearrsss. Yes, the mic quality went to shit, but it worked for when I needed it to.
When it comes time to replace my microphone, i will most likely buy a hyperx because of spiff.
the review sounds both frustrated and serious at the same time
audio wasn't working, and i thought it was part of the joke lmao
As someone who is heavily inspired by spiff content wise i can confirm if hyperX got him a new mic i would buy one to replace my current one no questions asked
The hyper quad thing or wtv is the spiff special, I have it, don't get rid of it
I love hyperX i used the quadcast but I replaced it with the quadcast s model and I use the headset mouse and keyboard from them absolutely love em.
Glad to know I made the right choice on purchasing my microphone years ago.
Spissed my pants from loaf jumpscare, pls sponsor new pant Sploff.
this game would be kinda nuts in vr.
Honestly with the amount of people you’ve shown the hyperx mic to I think they do owe you a freebie
thank you youtube for recommending me this video
Spigg doesn't have an allen wrench, I'm shook.
ive had this mic as a first stand alone the hyperx quadcast s same as spiffs mic its just a really good easy mic for not to much better than blue yetti ect
What's the settings of your microphone? I have the same but can't get it to sound as good as yours
idk, you could’ve got an actual interface, with a long xlr cable for the price of that little shure adapter. the elgato interface is pretty simple. i just think you went the wrong route in terms of how you were setting this all up. but i kinda like the open sound the hyperx has on you. idk how the dark shure sound would’ve treated you
I have the exact same mic and boom arm exclusively because of spiff, hyperX give this man his mic
If I weren't broke and was just considering buying a mic I'd absolutely get it upon your recommendation.
i dont have money atm but i was literally planning to get spiffs mic. mostly because of how simple the mute button is
ive rarely heard spiff this mad about something, clearly hyperx is superior
If hyperx agrees, I'd definitely consider buying one just because how incredibly cool they'd be.
I entirely bought a HyperX QuadCast because of spiff and like
It was one of the best decisions of my life.
As someone who is a audio snob, this hurts me dearly
I hope they say no.
A great example of everything wrong with the world.
"Expect something whilst doing literally nothing"
literally bought the hyperx quadcast because of you
it works wonders
has all the things i need/want
i found a 40eur mix that had the tap to mute feature, but i cant guarantee sound, so why not spend 120eur on something that i can guarantee works well and has everything i want
i use a hyperx for streaming and its decent i say, yeah theres some times i dont notice its on when i go into game chat but thats the only down side
I'll take your SM7B!! Pretty please?
So we WILL keep the perfect and iconic mic :)
Im just watching this for peaks of yore content
honestly i would take a hyperx sponsorship i have been using the same pair of cloud 2s for many years now without issue and i only see people saying good stuff about hyperx
