Winning at air hockey is easy. Tick to your goal when the pucks on the other side, and when it's on your side, take your time setting up your real shot, and preparing feints. When defending, theres only about a foot of space you need to cover, and if you keep it in the center, all you have to do is figure out which side it comes in on. Unless the puck is moving at blistering speeds, you will be able to figure it out in time. Then when setting up your hit, do what you can to make the puck motionless before you send it. That not only gives you setup time, but it psychs your opponent out cause they know you're planning something specific. SOme would call these two strategies cheesey, but theres ample room for improvement in both with practice, and both are unparalleled in effectiveness.
There is however room for variation. If the puck has moved back towards your end with a small enough amount of speed, then the way is open to send it instantly. If your opponent is expecting you to take your time again, they're more likely to be open, which helpos if they're using the same defence strat. Then theres the bounce technique. Move the puck with enough speed to bounce all the way back into your court each time if it's deflected. This also helps with penetrating the ideal defence.

Me playing Arcade Air Hockey is way better than me playing this Air Hockey When I play with my friends I'm usually the winner (and usually the puck flies to some part of the arcade, in one case it even flew under one of the game machines that makes it so hard to pick up)

u can't beat high lvl cpu by staying on the defensive. This cpu was just slow.
