At the time, my oldest siblings were watching us bcz our mom was in the hospital and had a tumor in her head between her eye and her brain and it was so big it was pushing her eye out and it was already a stressful and scary time. Couldn't imagine anything else going wrong and when they told me my granddad was gone they were cold with it too. I couldn't hear a thing, the world stopped moving, I was numb and my heart and soul were crushed. I couldn't even speak. Had no clue my brothers and sisters were in the room now and were asking me who was on the phone, and if it was ma was she ok. I couldn't even answer at first. My oldest sister had just come in and my oldest brothers (who usually came in the afternoon when we got out of school) just happened to be on their way to come make sure we were good before school. When my sister walked over to me and calmly grabbed my shoulders and asked me to tell her what happened bcz I was scaring everyone...looking at my brothers and sisters..all I could muster up to say was "grandpop gone". The grief that filled the room was so heavy it damn near drove me mad. It's been almost 18 years and I'm almost 30 and there hasn't been a week to go by when I don't think of my granddad and ultimately- the phone call when whoever dude was that called and in under 30 seconds let me know my grandfather was gone. Getting that call from the other side of the wall when your loved one is gone is brutal. I can only imagine it feeling similar to a ni66a locked up when they get informed of their loved one dying, but being worse bcz you've got no one around to cry to or with, you gotta keep a strong poker face on like you're ok but you're really not, you can't go be with your family and grieve together, and hell, you may not even be able to go to the funeral. I can't imagine how OG's son felt when the realization that by the time he is free- his father will be gone. That's harsh
