@@neutralfashionI assume you know the concert this is from is on DVD. It was fil med over two nights at the end of 1989. It is astonishingly good and so moving even all these years later. I saw them for the first time at de Montfort Hall, Leicester in the summer of 1989, the first and only time I was on the guest list for anything! They had just knocked Madonna off the top of the album charts with When The World Knows Your Name. Lucky enough to see them a few more times since.
I remember having the privilege to be working at one of their sound checks in Liverpool Summer Pops about 18 years ago. I got to talk to Ricky and Lorraine and they were such a nice couple, and didn't act like stars at all. Ricky asked me to sit down, and then asked what I thought they sounded like - I'll never forget that, Deacon Blue asking me what I though they sounded like! Just to confirm, they sounded amazing - always have. Raintown is one of the best albums ever.
2:45 "Tell 'em about it, Jim". I love his playing, excellent. Of course they're all great musicians, it's s a shame Ewan left, and Graeme sadly no longer with us. I've watched this concert so many times and couldn't pick a favourite song...so I'll say all of them! Yep, Lorraine has a great voice, especially on this song and her dance moves are great. She obviously loves being up on stage performing.
What joy I feel when I hear this...I was in my early 20s...no commitments, nothing...I was travelling to Los Angeles to see my old school mate...I was going to Hawaii, New York, Vegas...Tenerife in the winter...raves, town on a Saturday night, donor kebabs, Pepe jeans, Lacoste polo tops, Jazz aftershave, a flick haircut, a few girlfriends, an outstanding pool player, raced mountain bikes. Now...I'm 53, shaved head, divorced, two grown up kids...take Lansoprazole for acid reflux, have IBS wear Gant or Hugo Boss, Tom Ford aftershave, European trips away, have a watch collection including Rolex and Omega, released the girl I only really loved for her one true love...alcohol and lastly I fly drones and cycle.
OMG .... I simply dont have the words to give this song and version of it, the justice it deserves ................. and its 2022, only a mere 35 years AFTER it was written and it sounds better with age, absolutely SUPERB.
I used to play their records over and over and over again and sing at the top of my voice till the neighbours decided to go out in their car, and even then I carried on. Pumping up the volume till I felt like I was at their concert. & I played my imaginary piano. Thank you Deacon Blue for making the music that I cling on to.
Just love it . My wifes family come from a mining village , her father and one of her brothers were miners . They told me that sometimes you had to crawl through a tiny space for maybe nearly a mile just to get to the coal face - and that was unpaid . The lyrics about mining move me deeply . The chances are that most miners died or will die ,young . You've been docked , docked again boys, you've been loaded 3 for 1 What have you to show for working now your mining days are done . Worn out shoes, worn out miners ,blackened lungs and faces pale..... They really deserved more
True my dad was a face worker and shot fireing deputy. They had to drill the coal face put explosives in the holes they had made fix detonators then back trac before blowing the face. He said you couldn’t see your hands with your lamp on your hat illuminated. After there shift it was a race to the top some 3 and a half miles underground and the race to the pub ,many would take 2 litre bottles to be filled with ale so they could drink at home so as not to get in trouble with there wife.
I saw them in 1988 in Dundee. Ricky loved playing to Dundee. They took a break and just chatted to the crowd, and Lorraine is so so good. I have seen them a few times since but that was the best!
I had the utmost and unforgettable opportunity to see this band in 1987/88 with support band fairground attraction, oh I wish they would tour in holland
A superb album and this has to be one of the top tracks, if one can be chosen from such a fine selection - Ricky's passion is coupled with a voice that conveys everything meant about the song; the additional joy of Lorraine's subtle and yet powerful contribution creates something really special. Absolutely wonderful.
Well said.. went to the 30th to be here someday gig ..fantastic ..uploaded to my channel if you want to see the passion and magic of DB is still thereby...
Grazie ♡
Just been to see Deacon Blue for the first time last week in Liverpool. Mad it took so long but they were so good that im going to Dublin to see them again in August! Simply amazing!
This is for Angela Joy Gregory. Used to play this too loud in your Step dad , (dads) John`s Flat just off Byres Road. Mostly great times and fond memories of your warm crazy design..... Never met anyone like you....ever! Hope you found peace in the after life. Much Love RIP xxxxx
This is the very best of 80s pop and how it made so many people so very happy! Great times in Edinburgh for me ! Thank you Deacon Blue ! You guys and the Blue Nile were my favourite band’s growing up ❤ xxx
Thousands of people enjoying the music, the experience, together People these days have no idea how to enjoy and appreciate the music and performance NO MOBILE PHONES! Just people loving the music Oh.. no backing track, no miming !
I was there, on the first night. I remember they had some audio issues that night so most of the video is probably from the second night. Probably the best concert I've ever been to.
It's the best concert I never went to bar none, would have loved to have been there. I have seen Deacon Blue a number of times but this is captivating and sublime.
Haha, me too. I played it every day for ages. I think my family got a bit bored of hearing it! I didn't though. I still watch it now. Although Loaded didn't even make the TOP 40 charts, I still love it. I'm not sure why it didn't , as Raintown did quite well in the album charts.
Real music, brilliantly performed from back when it made sense to have several keyboards stacked to create the variety of sounds a single processor does these days.
Yo los vi con mi mejor amiga desde la ñiñez mi hermana mejor madre del mundo. Bendiciones para ella y todos los suyos.y ALVARO QUE ESTA EN CIELO. Biendonos
U bought this Album and played it constantly when I served in Germany..my best mate became a massive fan including his son 25 years later ..thank you DB for the music ..see you in Newcastle in December 2018
As far as live performances go, this one is absolutely terrific. Lorraine's vocals stand out especially.
Oh what has happened to music? We were truly blessed in the 80s and 90s and before. 😢 this song and performance gives me goosebumps. ❤
You really gotta see them, live! 1990 and 2022. Both concerts were AMAZING!
