This was so cool to watch! Also, seeing how much thought you put into your daily consumption and the way you've grown over the years makes me so happy. From food shopping online to going nearly plastic free and local is just amazing. You're a great role model. :)
Love that you’re featuring so much on sustainability! And I think it’s really brave of you to be on such a public platform, and be so transparent about your process! I know you say you’re not perfect, but what you’re doing for the environment speaks volumes! So very proud Xx
Unfortunately, where I live, there aren‘t shops like these. I would have to drive quite a bit, which defies the purpose. But I hope in the future more and more supermarkets will follow and eliminate plastic packaging and offer more local products. You are inspiring Niomi, I love your content.
Beeswax wraps are a fantastic alternative to glad wrap and they keep your fruit and veg fresher for longer! extra tip** When you aren't using the beeswax wraps store them in your fridge so that they don't dry out. Loveddd your video Niomi! So inspiring as usual and I shop at The Source Bulkfoods in Australia, its the best!! (ps try the dark chocolate freeze dried strawberries, they are just the best!) Much love xxx
With this video, I feel like the Niomi I liked a few years ago is back. I haven’t watched your videos in a while but really missed them and look forward to seeing what is next to come. 😊
I'm so happy you're trying to shop zero waste. It isn't easy when you don't have a lot of bulk food stores in a nearby area. That's why I try to look for alternatives even in a supermarket. You can get a lot of things in jars (I found raw cacao powder and yogurt) or pasta in paper packaging.
Love these kinds of videos, and seeing all your options for stores makes me miss living in London! I can't wait for more bulk food stores to move into my area.
Usually I never cared for actually living sustainable and buying local produce. But after watching all your vlogmas I think I wanna give it a try. You are amazing niomi and vlogmas is such a good way to show and spread how we can all easily live more sustainable and more caring
I live in Devon & there are 2 Whole Food Bulk stores near me, they are popping up everywhere which is awesome! I admire you for showing more sustainable & environmental ways to live & shop !! 💜🙋🏻♀️🌿
I wish there were more zero waste shops outside of London. Also quite difficult to do more than one shop a week, but trying to avoid plastic as much as possible.
I love your vlogs! I love watching the places you go to, even as you walk and talk I love watching the streets and houses behind you. Feels like I'm there and I honestly wish I was there too💕
Niomi!! I haven't been on ur channel in a while and I am so happy to see how much you continue to evolve from vegan to now plastic conscious. Like WOW thank you for everything you do for our planet 💚
Honestly my favourite video ever from you! Love your channel so much💓 You’ve inspired me so much by the foods you eat and your incredibly positive mentality with regards to life. You inspire me by the way you care so much for the environment. You’re an all round amazing human! Sending all my love💞
I’ve always seen the bulk section in some grocery stores and they’ve always felt intimidating for some reason but this was such a helpful video! Now I know kind of things I need to bring along.
a tip to anyone who is looking for how to shop at health food stores in the U.K/London or with zero waste you can buy from shops like Whole Foods, As Nature Intended and Planet organic as well as where Niomi has suggested! You can get vegan products and organic produce and a bunch of the stores have bulk food sections. Planet Organic and as Nature intended don't have plastic bags for produce, they use paper so it's somewhat better and they also always feature local products!
You're so inspiring and beautiful. It's lovely to see you reccomending low waste and eco friendly options when there's so many big influencer on here who don't seem to care. The soya chunks are amazing, they're a staple in my diet. In stir fry, curries and salads! Cook them in a vegan Pesto and they're delicious! 💚
Yes fashion is the worst. I can still justify food cause you can't live without but all the fashion influencers that have million leather handbags like why?!
SO happy you did this. I needed exactly this! Moving back to London Wednesday after 2 years in the US and have no idea where to start with my UK health food journey. Thank you.
Where I live is an amazing natural food/health shop (independently owned) and it has everything from teas to cereals and raw chocolate bars, I love it and they give you a paper bag. This video enjoyed it so much x
I love content and videos like this. It helps those who want to try better at being zero waste and gives great tips and tricks! I'd love to see more of this, Nim.
I can veggies and fruit every summer which helps me cut down a ton on needing to buy canned goods. I honestly don’t think I’ve bought canned tomatoes in a decade.
Thanks! I used them in a stir fry and loved them. I soaked them for about 15 minutes in boiling water, drained them, then added seasoning and fried them off with veggies and noodles. DELICIOUS!
Hi Niomi, Soya chunks are really nice and a great idea for a stir fry! I used to make goulash from them and I guess they would work great in stews as well. I haven’t had them for ages, I’ll need to buy some, thanks for reminding me of them :-) And thank you for a lovely video and a tip for the bulk shop!
You're doing an awesome job at being sustainable. (Freaks now do a Bakewell pot too it's amazing!) Love this and how you're inspiring/ encouraging people to shop sustainably. TIPS: Ecover does refills in lots of health food stores, you just take your old container - so cool! OddBox I want to start using. And then for eating out having a box with cutlery and straw or takeout container etc :)
I cannot wait to get your book to get some inspiration to my cooking :) so interested on more sustainable vegetarian/vegan cooking, everything on your channel looks so good all the time 😋😋
Try shopping at Asian markets too if you want less packaging for fresh fruits and vegetables. Cantonese Chinese cuisine is based on fresh ingredients and are really picky about getting fresh greens. I have been to the Chinese markets in London and they are really economical and fresh.
This was honestly SOOO helpful! I just moved to Kensington from Los Angeles and I stopped by Sainsbury's for my first food shop and was completely shocked at how much plastic was used. Now that I know about Fulham Greens and The Source I will definately be stopping by! Another tip for grocery shopping sustainably is to look at the discounted produce at your standard grocery stores because chances are they're going to throw it away after that day anyways. I do this a lot when I can't find a low-waste store near me because you are still shopping sustainably, just in a different way :)
In poland there are many ice cream shops where you can buy a bigger amount of ice crems and you can ask them to put it in your glass container :) if u dont have one they put in a plastic one. But as you are aware shopper you are prepared with your jars so that is amazing thing to do :)
We have a little garden near by run by a local club for kids. They sell their produce in "surprise bags" ie you dont know whats in it, but its fresh produce. I love to buy those to support their club and to be surprised! I get that bag weekly, and then plan my shopoing around the ingredients in it
Love this video niomi your wearing your vintage shop dress :) ? May you do a video at some point of recipes and meal ideas with you food you just bought? :) I'm ordering your book in a few weeks. Can't wait 😊 xxxxx
One easy way to get rid of a little more plastic is to make your own plant milk from the nuts or oats you buy in bulk. It requires a little planing because you may need to soak the ingredients the night before but other than that it's a very easy process!
Definitely not weird Niomi. Me too, I would rather shop for a couple of days and then your fruit and veg is always fresh. I kind of think if you do a weekly shop you do it on auto pilot and buy things you don't need.x 😄
Buy from farmer´s markets and bring your own tote bag for the groceries and if you do use plastic bags then recycle them as trash bags or save for the next trip to the store. Also some grocery store may let you use you own containers for products like fruits and vegetables and maybe meats and fish. Buy fruits and vegetables that are in season and pick product that have the least plastic in their packaging. And buy products that are produced in your homeland rather than buying products that are made really far away because then they are less sustainable because of the shipment.
There are a surprising number of pasta sauce/pesto options in jars if you are ever looking for that sort of thing. Also chocolate wrapped in paper and foil is a great plastic free option for a sweet treat :)
A few tips 1) if you are buying bananas buy the ones that are not in the bunch. These often get left out and are more likely to get thrown away 2) buy candy at ikea. They have it without packaging 3) for ice-cream, you can go to a normal ice-cream place (or vegan place) and ask for xyz number of scoops in your own container. Might be more expensive than a tub but works out well mostly. 4) if something is packaged and you can't find an alternative, try buying the biggest sizes available(that is if you are going to use it ofcourse). The bigger size is usually not only cheaper but also ends up having less packaging compared to many small packs of something.
Loved this video, I enjoy seeing these types of videos. In the future, would you mind doing another what I eat in day/week please? Those are my absolute favorite videos of yours😊😊
You could make your own oat milk? I do love the oatly but when I have time I use oats from the source and make my own milk, super simple and with the pulp left over I make oat balls with dates! So zero waste x
I’m from small coastal area in Australia, and we have a sourced foods! I go there all the time. Definitely try the toffee chocolate almonds 😍 they are so delicious!!
Sustainable and healthy grocery shopping is not as hard as you might think! Consider the ingredients inside each product and consider the foods you will actually eat all of to minimize waste. Making dishes from scratch is an easy way to ensure there are no preservatives. Bringing reusable bags and not store’s one-use plastic bags makes such a difference, as well.
There are plenty of local health food stores that stock vegan milks, cheeses etc. too. I find shopping from small businesses can make savings in some areas but be more pricey in others, it depends on the product. Just wish I had a bulk/zero waste store in walking distance
This was great! Thanks for sharing :) I always end up picking up extra desserts and treats when I go into the supermarket - more time for browsing haha x
For package free ice cream it might be worth while asking in a gelateria if they'd let you use your container. In Italy you can buy gelato by the kilo in all gelaterias. It won't be cheap, but the ice cream is so good 😀
I was really surprised to see Soya chunks, i thought only north indians knew about them. My mum puts them in gravies with potatoes, or soak them in water for a bit and stir fry them with veggies. It was my favourite dish when i was little.

Hi Niomi, do you wash your vegetables in a vinegar wash? I’m afraid to bc I’m worried the smell/taste of vinegar will affect the produce. Any suggestions or tips you can share?
I've lived in Canada for a good portion of my life since I was a teenager but I was born and went to school in the UK. My last trip home in 2016 I was surprised at how much of your fresh food is packaged. i.e. fruit, veg, meats and dry goods. For as long as I've been adult and doing the grocery shopping here in Canada I've been able to buy all of those items unpackaged. We have also had the option to bring our own bags or boxes to put our groceries in instead of using plastic or paper bags. In fact many years ago one of our largest grocery chains started charging people for using plastic bags to encourage people to use reusable grocery bags. They also sell recycled plastic crates so you don't need to use bags at all. So it blew me away when I went to the UK and saw how much packaging you are using on all your fresh foods. So packaging free is nothing new to people in Canada. By the way it's been since the 1990's that I've been in charge of doing the grocery shopping.
Hi Niomi..... do you know about Riverford Organics?..... check them out.... they do free delivery and zero packaging.... no sign up required..... they are great
Please do a video showing the meals you make with your shop
Jess Bowden yes, I miss her What I Eat in a Day videos!
Thank you for promoting #lowwaste and local shopping!
No problem, I love speaking about sustainable alternatives!
This was so cool to watch! Also, seeing how much thought you put into your daily consumption and the way you've grown over the years makes me so happy. From food shopping online to going nearly plastic free and local is just amazing. You're a great role model. :)

You are back!!!! Finally, something I started watching when I first came to your channel, young lady. Well done!
the way she keeps mentioning little things about Joe throughout her videos 😍😍 niomi is definitely in love and WE ARE MESMERIZED...girl deserves it 👏
I live in Devon & there are 2 Whole Food Bulk stores near me, they are popping up everywhere which is awesome! I admire you for showing more sustainable & environmental ways to live & shop !! 💜🙋🏻♀️🌿
Wow amazing! You're so lucky living in an area with two near you!
Niomi Smart I thought London would be full of them!? It’s definitely the future 👍🏻
I wish there were more zero waste shops outside of London. Also quite difficult to do more than one shop a week, but trying to avoid plastic as much as possible.

Niomi!! I haven't been on ur channel in a while and I am so happy to see how much you continue to evolve from vegan to now plastic conscious. Like WOW thank you for everything you do for our planet 💚
thank you for promoting buying produce from local sources!!! farmers markets and small grocery stores are so much better than supermarkets!
That gorgeous purple cauliflower was soooooooo fantastic
It was delicious! I roasted it in some olive oil, dried herbs and garlic.
I never had purple cauliflower but love cauliflower, so id love to try it. Does it taste different?

Love this video! Thank you so much for being real and showing that you're not perfect. You're already doing so much! 💛 Love youu
I love the glass jars they come in! It has an antique vibe but love the aesthetics of it💋💋
I love content and videos like this.
They’ve just opened the Waitrose unpacked in Cheltenham..so amazing!!
Soya chunks are really good option for protein... just soak them in boiling water before using
Thanks! I used them in a stir fry and loved them. I soaked them for about 15 minutes in boiling water, drained them, then added seasoning and fried them off with veggies and noodles. DELICIOUS!
@@niomismart I've recently started soaking them in hot veg stock/broth. Game changer! :)

Yes, this was a GREAT video!! Maybe you could do one every few months, as what's in season changes or new products you discover!!
I actually just moved to London from the States (last time I was here, I wasn't vegan!) and this is suuuuuper helpful.
Which state are you from? :) I’m Cali girl living in London!

Love this vlog 🥰
Recipes u make with everything now 🥰
Love the Mac & cheese
I lvoe seeing these as I'm in AUS and it's so interesting to see vegan foods in another country!
The Freaks of nature desserts are good, the Choc was a let down BUT the Sticky Toffee & Lemon Puddings are Awesome!
The sticky toffee pudding was UNREAL! I was so jealous of Joe's haha x
Niomi Smart It’s my Favourite dessert, so I was thrilled when I found a Vegan & Gluten Free version in the supermarket 💜
Love this! Also want to see a makeup routine update!
You’re just like me! I don’t like processed food... but then there’s processed dessert food! 🤣
I recommend the dragonfly marinated tofu from Holland and Barrett’s. It has a lot more flavour than the tafoo one
such a lovely video from you! thank you so much for sharing! I would love to see more food-related videos as well:)
I like this kind of video. I’m into my herbal teas too especially Pukka and Yogi teas lol
loved this video niomi, keep up the amazing work!😻💋
Fab video I am trying too use less plastic myself I stopped using plastic bags Year’s a go x
Great video, are you planning to write another cook/lifestyle book? I love your 1st one
Please do this regularly❤️❤️❤️❤️
Try asian superstores! They usually always have unwrapped fruit and veg and you can find produce you may not usually find in the local supermarket!
Great video Naomi, can't wait for waitrose zero waste in Milton Keynes too
I never food shop on line - prefer to go and buy it myself x
Need bulk store in my area - we used to have one when I was a kid
Great fun with my mum
There are plenty of local health food stores that stock vegan milks, cheeses etc. too. I find shopping from small businesses can make savings in some areas but be more pricey in others, it depends on the product. Just wish I had a bulk/zero waste store in walking distance
this vid was so wholesome i loved it omg
We love these videos Niomi 😘
This was great! Thanks for sharing :) I always end up picking up extra desserts and treats when I go into the supermarket - more time for browsing haha x
For package free ice cream it might be worth while asking in a gelateria if they'd let you use your container. In Italy you can buy gelato by the kilo in all gelaterias. It won't be cheap, but the ice cream is so good 😀
The icecream she buys is very expensive so I don't think doing it the way you suggest would be much more expensive, great idea :)
Try the pukka 'peace' tea, it's so good
They've just opened a waitrose unpacked in Cheltenham
Very insightful!!! That brocolli looks crazy good x
It was so good! I roasted it in some herbs and garlic as a side dish.
Pleaseee do a video on your reusable items, produce bags, jars and totes
So inspiring! I am going to look more into bulk buying now
I love Niomi's eating habits and beautiful skin♪
loved this video, Niomi! Also, really miss watching your vlogs, hope to see some new ones soon :)
I loved this!!
This was so interesting! More food videos please!
I was really surprised to see Soya chunks, i thought only north indians knew about them.
My mum puts them in gravies with potatoes, or soak them in water for a bit and stir fry them with veggies. It was my favourite dish when i was little.
I loved that fruit and veg shop I just really love loose fruit and veg but carrying glass jars to shop and back ... I can’t do that
Me too, it all looks so much better out of plastic. Yes, I understand it can be an inconvenience, but I only go to the bulk food store once or twice a month, so it's not like I have to carry the jars around every day. Joe and I love Chiswick, so we love to find a goo place for lunch, and then pop to the bulk food store with our jars.
Ada Bell you can use reusable drawstring bags and fill up your jars when you get home to avoid carrying around the jars with you
This was a fantastic video idea ❤️
I wish it was less expensive to buy sustainable food in my area, love the video tho
Please make more cooking videos or smoothie ideas. Miss those 😊
You can opt to have no plastic with your food delivery online
My shopping days are very stressful😂😂. It looks soo much easier for you hahah
Aww no really! Why are they so stressful?!
Niomi Smart, I always leave it till the last minute and then it’s just hard to do all of it at once😂.
Hi Niomi..... do you know about Riverford Organics?..... check them out.... they do free delivery and zero packaging.... no sign up required..... they are great
Loved this! Have to try the choc pots ;)
You have such beautiful hair!
Thanks so much x
Interesting video as always. Loved the bulk food shop. Not a fan of Waitrose though. Not easy to shop healthy in that place when you're on a budget.
