I second the feeling of freedom that writing in a notebook gives - for the longest time I have handwritten everything, and edited it extensively as I was typing it up. Getting the motivation to actually type it up, however, usually was a lot more difficult. Currently I'm trying out writing directly on the computer and it's a lot quicker, but a) very hard not to edit as I go b) distractions abound. Good luck in nanowrimo, Becca!
Thank you!!! And right? Such freedom. And yes! The distractions. I think that's the biggest reason I'm writing in a notebook. Back in the 90s, there was no internet to distract me lol! By going to cafes or just a park with my notebook, I feel like I'll be able to restrain myself from checking my phone hahaha! Whyyyyyyy is the internet everywhere LOL!!!
I love that you found your old work! It's always a blast seeing your progress as well as reading it in general. I didn't originally plan on participating this year, but since I've been kicking around a new idea (for a fiction podcast, which will be fun), I figured I'd give myself freedom to work on it without word goals. So as long as I work on it a reasonable amount each day, I will give myself the par word goal.
I'm so jealous of those who can write in a notebook to plan! (disability so I can't) I feel like scribbling down your thoughts is so much more impactful that typing them out on a laptop!
Yes! I love handwriting out my ideas. My handwriting has gotten terrible though so I need to really concentrate on it. But, since my comment on your last video I decided to plan out my Nano in my bullet journal and I love it. It's the most fun I've had planning in a long time. I wrote a TNG script in high school too! I turned in a short version for creative writing class. For Nano I'm actually using a spec script story idea I had a long time ago, but changing it into it's own thing so it's not that show, but just the idea. I'm writing it as a novel, not a script.
Right?!!! It opens a different part of the brain I think. I don't know if I could do it with a book as they are so long, but screenplays, I'm in. And I love that you're using your bullet journal! I bought a pre-made one and haven't used it as much as I wanted, but there's still time left in the year lol! And OMG! Sherry!! We BOTH had TNG scripts! How did we not talk about this!!!!! And yessssss!! That's how Riser started! It was a spec teleplay I wrote!!!
I love writing in notebooks! I have a ton of writing in notebooks from the 90s and early/mid 2000s/2010s. I did so much of that, too, especially when my laptop was bigger and it wasn’t easy to carry around. I’ve definitely written screenplays in notebooks as well. This brought back memories! I also still handwrite my ideas if I want to get away from the computer and then transcribe them later. I just finished the fourth draft of a horror TV drama pilot (revisions) and I’ll be writing the novel version for NanoWriMo! I think the novel will be YA, though. The pilot is definitely Adult.
Omg! I feel like we led the same writing life hahahaha!!!!! I definitely want to get back into writing things down first like I used to. Just in using the dry erase board and journal-brainstorming for this rom-com it's brought back all the reasons why I love that process. I finally finished my outline today, so I'm ready to write tomorrow! I'm so excited! And I LOVE that you're turning your pilot into a book! That's how I wrote my first book, Riser! It was a Pilot I wrote and turned it into a book series. It felt like each book was a full season lol!!
Here to represent the floppy disc generation! 😂❤
Hahahaha yesssssss!!!!!
Woot woot I ADORE writing my projects by hand there’s just something about it!!
I absolutely thought of you when I decided to do this! You are such an inspiration!! I can't wait to go old school like I did in the 90s hahaha!!
@@BeccaCSmith When I think of nano I can’t help but to think of you!! You are such an inspirational writer woman!! Just posted my Eve video and gushed again about the year I stumbled upon your channel! Swooning still!!
This's going to be a NaNoWriMo for you to remember and a successful one with the rom-com at that, I can feel it! Good luck, even though you're not going to need it! 🖋🤓📙
Michael!!!! Thank you so much!! This means the world to me!!!🤗
Ah, floppy discs. Adorable video. ❤️❤️❤️😁
Right LOL!! We all remember those hahahaha!!
I’m writing by hand too! It helps me turn off the critic more because I tell myself I’ll fix it when I type it up. Works as kind of a zero draft for me
A million percent the same lol!!
OMG! Star Trek TNG... The lost episode!! I'm here for it, and someone needs to film it. Make it so! 😂
Hahahahahaha!!! I'll let you know after I re-read it. I'm sure it was Wesley Crusher-centric since I was positive I was going to marry him LOL!!!
Omg I wish I still had my notebooks from elementary/middle school. I was just born in the 90s lol. But I had so many diaries, poems, songs, and short stories I wrote starting from 2nd grade😩
Oh no!!!! Awwwww, I wish you had them too! It's so fun to go back!! I hope you end up finding a box somewhere and it's full of all your old writing!!!
@@BeccaCSmith wouldn’t that be a wild miracle!
I remember the floppy 💾! 😂
Hahahahaha yesssssss!!!!!
Wow, handwriting 50K words! Good luck. How will you track word count? Guesstimate based on avg words/page?
Luckily, I'm writing a screenplay so that's about 15k-20k, so not so bad hahaha! I'm being a NaNo Rebel this year!
@@BeccaCSmith even 20K sounds difficult for hand-writing. Can't wait to watch your progress!
