  • Saints Unscripted host, Cam Condie, sits down with his mom, Ganel-Lyn Condie, to talk about being raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. What were the traumas being raised in a religious household? What was it like to be a parent in the early 2000s and choosing to raise children in the Church of Jesus Christ? What was it like to be a child being raised in a household where prayer and the Holy Ghost were a part of daily conversation?
Thanks you Cam and Ganel-Lyn for your vulnerability and honesty!!

Ganel-Lynn is the GOAT!!! 😍 Loveeee her!!! What an inspiration. Both of you are, truly. Thank you for sharing your testimonies often with us! And thank you both for being so vulnerable and sharing about your ever evolving parent/child dynamic. Gosh, this is so comforting. If there were more open dialogue like this, I think that people would feel like less isolated in their experiences. A lot of the time we hear the cookie-cutter church polished answers, which are still true, good and wonderful, but they sometimes lack the real nitty-gritty of what it is to be human and go through this life!

Thank you so much for this video! I'm currently going through the 18-20 something stage with my kids and it is so, so hard. This video is a gift and exactly what I needed right now!

UTAH culture is so strange. I grew up in New Mexico as a member of the church and I now live in Texas. I think some of you need to get out of UTAH once and while. HAHA

Sounds like the problem is Utah culture. Here in NY it is so judgement free and refreshing.

I grew up in the 80's and I don't identify with her experience. My mother had lots of church friends that they could lean on without social media. I will preface that we lived in Florida outside of Utah culture. It is human nature to blame yourself but this is not coming from the Church.

I love the church and the gospel and have strong testimonies in every aspect of that. But the culture in Utah can be very toxic at times from the members. This is something that the church leaders have constantly strived to talk about and teach the members to be better.
Utah culture is very different from any other area of the world.
      Edit: rephrasing my statement.

The opposite side of it is just as hard. Infertility is an awful thing to have as a member. You feel less like a woman because you can't do the one thing that you are told you should. It is a bit of a struggle at times.

Yeah I couldn't imagine what that would be like. Keep going on and always realize that the blessings will always come...even if we have to wait till the next life. Heavenly Father and Christ love you and if people judge it'll be on their heads, not yours.

@The-black-one-j3n yes and no one talks about. I have gone to a support group through the church, and it is just the same answers. When you are in the middle of it, the answers don't help. It just makes the hurt deeper. Just being there and letting youself be in the moment with someone who is struggling means so much more than church answers. Husband's don't know how they should feel and get shut down for trying to show their grief. I think if members focus more on just being there for people than trying to give the perfect church answers, it would help.

I definitely agree that each generation has its differences. However, marriage is such a sacred thing. And, if you allow it to be built on anything other than eternal family, what's the point of being married at all? Yes, I have met many, many strong people who have great marriages outside of the church. But to have the mindset that they can thrive in those areas( since they're only married til death do you part) prevents you from sharing the doctrine that will bring them the greatest happiness in their marriage.
We can't force people to believe our mindset. But if you go down the route that other mindsets can be okay too. Then what's the point of having truth in the first place? And why have the gospel if any pathway can lead back to God eventually?

I’m reminded of General Primary President Susan Porter’s conference talk about how they did work for her non-member father after a lifetime of praying for him to join the church and not getting the confirmation that he wanted to make all those covenants until after he died. Death isn’t the end of the road…

@@gingersnaps215 I agree. But what we know from the Doctrine & covenants is that people who choose not to accept the gospel in this life (not talking about those who would have accepted it if they could )won't be able to receive the Celeste Kingdom. If you're not willing to be firm in your foundation with the doctrine, then you can easily harm someone's eternal progression.
The Prophet specifically asked us to think celestial. And so in our teaching and preaching, we should also do the same for others.
