This video helped me I picked up a flange to flange diff. And did know what those levers did. Maybe for a future project. But it was cheap, I was concerned when the pinion clicked so much , being an old hot rodder we look at that stuff closely. I see no markings but some green paint so a googled Kawasaki. Images and started seeing pictures that looked like the one I pulled out of the local scrap yard. Thanks you for your post..

Would have liked to see more details and installation. But this is the best RUclips vid I can find on the rear dif brake. Thumbs up.

I used a acetelyne torch with a brazing tip,to heat up the aluminum, and used an aluminum alloy kit from Eastwood,to repair the crack successfully.Still gotta replace the brakes.....

man there's a lot of plates in there lol. What is the advantage of this over traditional setups?

Helpful to see how that’s constructed. Is it a difficult job to get that diff out? Just bought a 2009 and may need to replace my rears if I can’t find an adjustment for the pedal.

    • @dennismundy3184

Craig Arndt You have to remove the gas tank to get the rear diff out. Then drain diff, remove axles and driveshaft, then unbolt the diff to remove.

You can go on any parts site to order the replacement parts. I use motosport.com for oem parts.

Is that clunking noise the pinnion gear that needs shim adjustment ? Do you resolve it ?

    • @dennismundy3184
      @dennismundy3184  6 лет назад +1

I never shimmed the pinion to take up the shop or clunking. She's been running fine since that video.

I have a 2009 and hear that clunk on take off . I was just wondering if it was a pisser to do . I will wait to change brakes to resolve this issue . Guess i will find out if its difficult job . Thanks for great video and quick response .

For me , it was not a difficult repair. For the slop in the pinion or the clunk you hear on yours, I would double check the pinion nut to insure it is tight - it is a known issue to have a loose pinion nut because the factory forgot to apply thread locking agent on the threads. I think guys where using a plumbing spanner wrench to tighten the nut. Do an internet search to find the tool - plenty of write ups on the Kawie forums, about the rear diff pinion nut coming loose.

jorge p I just cleaned her up and installed new brakes. Did nothing with the pinion bearing. It has been fine ever since I did the job.

Any Kawasaki oem parts supplier has them. Partszilla, rockymountain, motosport.com

The brakes are still going strong after 6 years. The brake cables need to be changed roughly once a year if you ride in mud and water.

what a piece of crap setup. conventional brakes have worked for years on quads. just a way for dealers to soak customers

    • @utahwanderlust700

matt romanak Try to get regular disk brakes to last as long as these! Usually, a wet brake will last the life of the quad.

I don't see it that way Matt. I actually like the wet brake set up. The only down fall to this system, is the brake cables take on water when you water or mud ride, which leads to corrosion inside the cable, or freezing up in cold climates. Improve the brake cable system - YES. Nothing wrong with the standard disk brake set up as well, but I assure you that the disc brake would not last long at all for rear brakes, at least on my 750.

Love the wet disc brakes. Simple clean and after 5000 hard miles my brakes feel and perform flawlessly but I'm running out of adjustment so time to change them out.
