Agreed. I got on the Rush bus in 1981, first saw them in concert in 1984 and then 54 more times over 31 years, attended their RRHOF induction in 2013 and was at their final show in 2015. RIP Neil Peart and thank you to Rush for a brilliant career.

This is my essay to people who may not know RUSH or who Neil was professionally and his contributions to the art of drumming and lyrical writing! Enjoy! RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary😊
As long as it’s not Ray Daniels. I don’t know how he is around RUSH, but based on many accounts I’ve read of Van Halen in the 90s, he was a real dingleberry. In fact, Ray Daniels was one of the key reasons why they had the first falling out with Sammy Hagar in 1996. Ray was also the reason why Eddie used sequencers for songs that he played on the Oberheim live during the early days. Ray wouldn’t “let” him play keyboards like he wanted to do live
@@MyVideos-fm7ugRay is hot garbage. He wanted Rush to do another tour leg even after Neil had said he would be done. He was all about milking every penny out of Rush and I was not 1 bit surprised when it came out that he was a major problem within Van Halen.
@@garyg719 that’s EXACTLY what I thought! Because if he treated Van Halen the way that he did, and being every bit the spark that led to Sammy Hagar leaving the first time in 1996… one must question his relationship with RUSH despite him being their manager the entire time That also makes me wonder why RUSH put up with him for so long. They just don’t impress me as the kind of guys who would put up with that. Then again, Ray’s greed and lack of being able to differentiate between people and depreciative assets could maybe be a lot of the reason why the guys toured so much and did so many records, especially seeing how once Neil came back in 2002… it was like they were picking up where they left off After reading Roadshow, that book was eye opening in a lot of ways. For example, Neil talks a LOT throughout the book in such a way that it feels as if he hates touring. That’s a deliberate strategic move that’s done to establish a wholesome “image” and to further ensure privacy… that way if any scandal might arise, they can make it seem like a media witch hunt, and it will eventually go away as if it never happened But that Ray… I thought that my perception of him was spot on. I miss Neil terribly, but I'm so grateful Alex and Geddy are still with us....they still have rocket juice....leave them alone, you insane fans.....lol
They are one of the few bands that lived their lives true to who each is as a person, not the fictitious personification of the rock star life that simultaneously amuses and disgusts us. They aren't the typical band where you can quickly identify them by their sound. In fact, it was quite the opposite since they evolved and changed much like the band The Police. Yet we, at least for me, listened to see what they would come up with but also what was being sung. In some, if mot many respects, It's a shame that they have a cult-like following because they have something to offer every everyone. For example, their is (naturally) the drum lover, the bass lover, the guitar lover, the synth lover, the lyrics/poetry lover, the introvert, but there is also the music theory lover. For me, it's always been a trio of fascinating people who entertained me, got me through rough days and helped me celebrate when life was good. Thanks for posting this Rick and thanks to the guys from Rush.
Although I never met Geddy, I see him at Toronto Blue Jays games, where he sits 6 rows below me, marking his own scorebook. People leave him alone for the most part, and let him enjoy the game. He is a huge Blue Jays fan.
I would like to hear Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson play Rush songs with only guitar with no synthesizer and no drums to hear the guitar parts better, with or without the words.
I wish I could have been able to get tickets for a show, but it never happened. So being able to see this is awesome. Been a fan since 1979 when I was only 4 years old. I'm sure I will end up buying the book soon. I have read a few books on Rush over the years and will be interesting to hear it from the horses mouth. Or hamster with a blowtorch up its ass.

Just found this video and CANNOT believe I missed this...this would've been a highlight in my life...BLIMEY!!!
Geddy is one of those guys who looks more badass the older he gets.
Although I never met Geddy, I see him at Toronto Blue Jays games, where he sits 6 rows below me, marking his own scorebook. People leave him alone for the most part, and let him enjoy the game. He is a huge Blue Jays fan.
Geddy Lee It IS tall Guy?
Aside from extremely talented ....etc etc etc ..........what a nice dude !
We would love to see you and hear you speak at The Paramount in Rutland Vermont!
Wishful thinking...
Not a lot of creative or aggressive booking...
Too bad! If there was a Geddy clone, that's who would get booked!
Phenomenal.
I would like to hear Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson play Rush songs with only guitar with no synthesizer and no drums to hear the guitar parts better, with or without the words.
Live for yourself, there’s no one else more worth living for.
That went by much faster than I thought it would.
Dirk! 💫
