- This music composition lesson presents four bars of repeated notes at the top and bottom of the texture. He then explains how to harmonise all the repeated notes, generating an engaging range of harmonic colour and well structured melodic lines in the middle of the texture. Inversions, extended chords and chromatic chords are used to achieve a varied and expressive outcome.

Do you think that the use of parallel fifths moving by a minor or major second is permissible between soprano and alto and between tenor and bass? the question is not about the movie, maybe in next movie..... something?
That would contravene the advice of the rule but it could be very effective in the right context.

Having no formal musical education, I haven't heard of this "keep the alto stable" tip before. Interresting. In my experience the alto mostly tends to be stable simply as a result of the prosess of composing. Often the alto will get stable but challanging "less logic" figures.
I think composers making/arranging music for choirs have a challange in making all the voices more interesting to sing. Changing up things so the sopranos don't have to sing melody all the time, and the altos having to sing weird filler tones. The basses often get quite repetitive and boring lines. I'm a tenor, and admittedly we in general get a nice mix of melody-ish lines, melody lines and filler stuff. It's all result of the prosess of composing/arranging it seems.
Luckily the trend seems to be more adventurous arrangements these days. Older sheet music for choir often sounds good but seems a bit dull in the long run.
