Had the good fortune to meet John Louis Mansi ( Von Smallhausen ) in Newmarket Suffolk quite a few years back . Such a nice man , he said that he so enjoyed filming this series , he said the cast were often reduced to laughter whilst they were filming. He passed away in 2010. Even now with all the repeats it never fails to make me laugh 😂
I can well believe they would have difficulty containing their laughter. Glad you had a good encounter with Mr Mansi. Good to hear that he was a decent bloke
What I find amazing about Allo Allo is how straight they all played it (although there is one scene where Officer Crabtree is being particularly silly and Richard Marner is trying very hard not to laugh). I love Von Smallhausen. What a great name.

He made a great character and the way Richard Gibson Herr Flick says Von Smallhausen is so funny 😂 His laughing while up a tree eavesdropping on the the radio to the resistance makes me roar so hard. Just after 01:29 (but not shown on this compilation) and the line “Can I do you now sir” How Richard GIbson didn’t laugh as well. Johns laugh was so infectious 🤣🤣
I love the bit at 11 minutes 22 seconds. I remember this one because of the name Von Smallhausen gave himself. When they were going up the stairs in the chateau and got stopped by the guards. (Herr Flick) Make Vay For Field Marshal Von Krakenfart 🤣🤣🤣 And the fact there must’ve been an actual Field Marshal by that name because Von Klinkerhoffen says..... you’re not Field Marshal Von Krakenfart your an impostor 🤣 Good times watching Allo’ Allo
Von Smallhausen was my favourite character. It’s a pity you missed out the line said to Rene ‘Vy are you dressed as a voman of the opposite sex?’ But that line ‘I have zee crabs, I have zee crabs, alive alive-o!’

How Richard Gibson (Herr Flick) managed to keep a straight face during his scenes with any of the characters is beyond me...
Another great comedy series by the masters of comedy, the British... great writing and great actors to bring it to live...
