From what I am reading here is that most people are saying that there is no submission at all. Not in the Church or in the home. And this is the reflection of what we see. We have no idea of what biblical submission looks like. We can say mutual submission all we want but the actual roles and what mutual submission actually means is outlined completely. It is strange how we hold on to things like tithing and even use that word despite the New Testament way of giving is just based on generosity and not a number... and then we ignore plain Scripture. It's such a head-scratcher when I see people who promote this type of teaching but still talk about "tithing" as if we are still under that system. We all keep interpreting the Bible based on our feelings...
The situation is not about talking or not. It's about AUTHORITY. The same authority that is clear in the home.

I support women in the ministry. What I don't understand about verses 34-35 is....if you say it's not in the Greek text or doesn't belong then WHY IS IT THERE?

  • @AlanJeremyStreep

Brother, I like your teaching. There is one point on which I disagree. You said that not allowing women to speak in church silences half the congregation. Well, in congregations I have visited the women sometimes number 75% of the congregation and up. If it is true that men should be leading in all aspects of public worship then some men are abdicating their natural roles in the church while women clamor for the opportunity.

The reason vs. 34-35 seem out of place is Paul is quoting the men of the church here, he states their position then he states his position on the matter. The law in 34-35 was the Jewish oral law (Talmud) man,s law. In vs. 36 look what Paul say's What? did the word of God come out from you or come unto you only. Paul here is rebuking the men for holding on to their Talmudic law's. Paul was never against women...
    GRACE & PEACE

It seems clear that the apostle Paul was talking to the women in Corinth. He said let them ask their own husbands at home. Perhaps things were getting out of hand and the wives at Corinth were asking questions but the law or custom was for the husbands to do this. Back then, the men and women probably didn't even sit together.
I truly believe this scripture was taken out of context
We have to remember that some scripture was used to justify slavery.

I think some of the problem around this issue comes from misconceptions about what it means to be a man -- that being a man means you are "supposed" to have all the answers, you're supposed to be so competent all the time that you never need any counsel. When women say, hey, we have some unique wisdom to offer here, to many men that hits a sore point; they feel there is an insinuation of incompetence against them. They then react by vigorously defending what they see as "their" church territory. But the Bible, especially in Proverbs, indicates that it is an honor to a man to take wise counsel, not box it out just because it's coming from a female; they can rewire their thinking a little to see that it is an honor, not a shame. And the church needs our perspective.

This is the first I've heard of our translations rearranging original Greek texts. If that's true, specifically in 1 Cor 14, what are the implications? Does that screw with the infallibility of scripture?

interesting pattern: intro states that an opposing point of view is from "the enemy" which is trying to distort the truth... therefore, if you disagree with me, you are agreeing with "the enemy".
also: when Paul refers to "as it states in the law"... because we haven't found that law, does it mean it doesn't exist? Is Paul lying? if so, then the Word of God is corrupted... and we need to remove 1 Corinthians from the Canon.
The end result, I would assume is that we can therefore appoint women in points of leadership in the church? Or is this about allowing women to prophecy, speak in tongues, interpret ... (1 Corinthians 14:26).
I would tend to find the "real" truth somewhere in the middle of these 2 debates. You can't disregard the words of Apostles Paul and Peter because we don't like the message without trying to reconcile the "whole of the Word"

    • @maryellen6153

But we HAVE found the law Paul was referring to. It's in the Talmud, which began as oral traditions of the pharisee rabbis. Never in the Old Testament.
Paul was responding to a letter of questions, from the Corinthian church. At times, he would quote from that letter. Some of those quotes have been grossly mis-translated!
      1) "it is good for a man not to touch a woman." That was a question. "Is it good for a man not to touch a woman?" And the rest of chapter 7 is Paul's answer to the question.
      2) "every sin that a man doeth is without the body." Say what? What about gluttony, drunkenness, fornication...? Obviously, that was a question coming from gnostic influence. and Paul answers it immediately with, "BUT he who commits fornication sins against his own body!"
      3) "All things are lawful unto me!" Paul answers that one real quick too!
And the law they were quoting in 1 Cor 12: 34,35 was answered by Paul in verse 36!
This was a conversation about spiritual gifts. Paul was not taking a rabbit trail.
"WHAT??? did the word of God come only to you? or did it come only THRU you?"
So... obviously, someone was trying to shut someone else up, because they thought the word of God should only come thru them.
Who? duh. Men. some men were trying to shut the women up, because they thought the word of God ought to only come through MEN!
They were Pharisees, quoting their extra Pharisee laws. (The same Pharisee ideas that erected a wall to keep women out of the outer court of the Temple! Which God never designed!)
How sad, to have such a majority of Protestant preachers still promoting such Pharisee ideas.

Thank you, brother. You bring up an important point; if women can learn only at home from their husband, single women can never learn. And furthermore, if we take the text at face value, then women can only be saved through childbearing. So does that mean single women cannot learn and cannot be saved? It does not make sense.

Let us all follow the way of Jesus and those women meant to preach be welcomed . Jesus encouraged Mary who shared the good news. • @johns8876

Absolutely, He is right becuz looking at the beginning of 1corinthians1:11 it shows paul saying how news has been heard at thee church of corinth which is at the house of chloe, a woman...female greek name. So if women had to keep silent in church, and if she is the oversear/pastor of the house /church of corinth...how does the 2 go together? There had to sbe a translation error with the text concerning Pauls letter to the church of corinth. Paul only said what he said in his letters to address the people or person he's talking to. His letters is to show us the problems back in those days, but its not for us to imply to our modern day life when it comes to women being silent. In all honesty, the only way a woman should be commanded to be silent is if they are calling Jesus Christ a liar and denying him. So How can paul support women in ministry such as chloe, her being the household of the corinthian church in (1corinthians1:11), then says they cannot teach(1Timothy2:11-12) or speak in the church in (1Corinthian14:34-35), then goes back to saying thanks for the women that labored with him the gospel in (Phillipians4:3)? Which in 1Timothy2:11-12 is just about a marriage concerning how a wife shouldnt dominate her husband, just look at 1Timothy2:13-14 for proof when paul mentions adam n eve. Adam & eve have NOTHING to do with pastoring or speaking about Jesus Christ in the book of Genesis. So the translators of the word have mistranslated when writing it for us to read in our modern day. Also readers have misread the keywords that show an explanation...such as in 1timothy2:11-14.

Reading the below comments, it's amazing how many "theologians" there are out there stating translations are incorrect...really? There are no contradictions in God's Word, only man's lack of comprehension, knowledge, wisdom and understanding. Learn context.

    • @angielovesusa
      @angielovesusa 7 лет назад +1

Many different versions of the Bible and those versions do contradict each other. SO which Bible is 100% True to God's Word? None of them is the correct answer. Why because there are verses and words that haven't been translated correctly. There are also added words where the original was too damaged to know what was there, so someone filled in the blank. And King James had a habit of forcing the church to change any verses he didn't like, and he was a male chauvinist pig. Then you have the 4th century church that erased all things Jews from the NT that they could. --- That means we have to go back to the original scrolls and research the Koan Greek for ourselves.

Justa Guy The Bible did not land down from heaven on wings. It was copied, translated, edited so on and so forth. God preserves His Word, but if u think He will spoon feed you, you are wrong. Every generation is supposed to work at scripture with fresh eyes. If all we are required to do is follow the Bible like an instruction manual or a check list, we would be keeping slaves today. Not using God given reason and common sense to interpret passages within their cultural context is NOT the anointing of the Holy Spirit. In the best case it is laziness and in the worst case it is trying to justify prejudices and ego trips by using separate passages in the Bible. If you happened to have a text that u considered to be holy and it had a verse to kill all unbelievers, would u do it? No u won't. Ur common sense will prevail. Something within u will tell u that the command is absurd, immoral regardless of whether u believe the text to be inerrant or not. Common Sense and the ability to reason are God given gifts that the Holy Spirit uses in us. The fact that the Bible has a history should encourage us n not discourage because while God preserves His word, God does not live within the Bible physically. He exists in us and guides us into all truth. Most of the stuff in the Bible are not plain and simple. If it were there would be no need for the Holy Spirit to teach us.

1 Timothy 2:12 I do not permit a WIFE to teach or to exercise authority over her HUSBAND; rather, she is to remain quiet.
Woman and man means husband and wife. That is the way it should be translated, and is even noted this way in the NIV. "woman" and "man" is an irresponsible translation seeing as how men are using it to silence the entire other half of the body of Christ.
Wisdom is a woman and she speaks as a woman. You sure don't want her banned from the pulpit ;)
Proverbs 1:20 Out in the open wisdom calls aloud, she raises her voice in the public square; 21 on top of the wall she cries out, at the city gate she makes her speech:
Wisdom sends out her female servants (apostles):
Proverbs 9:3 She has sent out her young women to call from the highest places in the town,
    Sheerah built cities.
1 Chronicles 7:24 His daughter was Sheerah, who built Lower and Upper Beth Horon as well as Uzzen Sheerah.

I also heard something interesting recently, that the context of 1 Timothy 2:12 was that, in that area, there was an Amazonian-type cult that taught that women were superior to men, so there was a lot of husband-bullying going on in that context . . . just as ugly as wife-bullying. So Paul was addressing the problem of husband-bullying there.

The Lord knows that there will be people who pervert His word and so He says the same things many times in different ways so that those perverts will be exposed. Read 1 Corinthians 11:3. For those who espouse the total equality and equal headship of men and women.

    • @bluesdeora4528
      @bluesdeora4528 6 лет назад +4

The NIV actually reads: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet." It just has a note that it could be translated "or over her husband." In the Greek the word transliterated gune could be translated wife or woman and the Greek word transliterated aner could be translated a man or husband. The use of the word is of course dependent on the context. If you look at the context it's obvious it is to be used in a general sense. The problem as I see it is that some take this verse and use it in a way that promotes dominance or a hierarchy (largely in part to Jerome's translation). After all, women and men are to be viewed as equals (Gal. 3:28) and wives and husbands are to submit to one another (Eph. 5:21). Of course one of the biggest issues is what to make of the translation of αὐθεντεῖν as "to assume authority over" (NIV). In my opinion this is not to indicate that men should assume absolutely authority over woman (hierarchy), but rather it's a message that the women in that particular congregation are not to take charge because they are leading people in the wrong direction. I take this verse as more a word of wisdom to assist those dealing with recent converts from goddess worship who may have been instigating ritual violence against men. If this is the case the Apostle Paul is simply offering counsel to Timothy as he ministers to the men and women at Ephesus. Paul's message is one of encouragement as Timothy attempts to repair the church and protect it against false teachings. For the women to be quiet in the church is a solution to a problem (that of false teachings). It's a particular message for a certain group of people at a specific time in history and not a for all time command against female teaching or authority.

Jesus doesn't "trump" Paul though, neither does Paul trump Jesus; Jesus spoke the words of the Father, Paul spoke from the Holy Spirit - that is the same Holy Spirit that raised Christ from the dead. Paul was not speaking in opposition to Jesus, we don't have to choose between the teaching of one over the other, because Paul dedicated his efforts to preaching the Gospel. God Bless.

      @@angielovesusa hi Angela.
I know what your trying to say, Jesus is Lord above all creatures yes. But Jesus doesn't "trump" Paul.
Jesus loved Paul so much, I would dare to say more then anyone here. Paul was so loved by Jesus.
So when Paul wrote most of the New Testament, it was under the Holy Spirit. To say you dont believe what Paul wrote is to deny ALL Scripture, because "all Scripture is God-breathed".
Paul, Moses, David, Solomon, etc all wrote under the influence of the Holy Spirit.
Now regarding to women preaching, I would still have to do more research and you should too, to determine what it is actually said in yhe text.
      If women were allowed, great.
If God didn't allow women yo preach, great.
If the latter was true, women can always contribute in other ways.
Please consider what I am saying

The word of God is never miswritten because there is context to bring the reason of all that is being said. We just have to look deep and carefully. For example, Jesus told his disciples to preach the Gospel to every living creature. Why does he say this? Just look at the context by reading what he did on the cross for every sinner. Likewise in 1timothy2:12-15, many don't read the context of paul silencing women. Its only a Husband & Wife correction that paul is regarding to because adam & eve have nothing to do with the Gospel of Jesus christ since Jesus did not come to the cross before God made adam...so when we see paul stating adam & eve in 1timothy2:13,14 its not reffering to pastoring or preaching because Jesus didn't even go to the cross before adam was made.

Not necesary. For example today a man said to a friend, "hey your woman look elegant" that woman is his wife. We understand the context. When paul talked about these women is refering to their wifes. ( remember marriage in this society is a contract) in other words paul is saying: " your wife questioning this teching and discusing this with you disrrupting the teaching is improper. If the women have something to discuss with you take it to your home broh."

So if galatians 3:28 is to be interpreted like that, then how is gayness possible?

Peace be with you in Jesus Name amen.
It means in the Spirit are we ONE. We all have the same Holy Spirit. But this verse doesnt mean we are not male and female in the flesh. We Are Male and female but in on the Spirit side of Life we are all called to make Desciples, Heal the sick, baptice them and so on.
God bless you and your Familiy in Jesus Name amen

Ikr, i came to this video researching the real meaning because this one street preacher called Raf Proclaims has been going to all these churches standing at the end of parking lot or the street messing with people going into the building saying stuff like you're sitting under a women pastor you're going to be judged for that and says stuff about God doesn't hear prayers from sinners all other nonsense stuff he says with quoting scripture. I tried to correct him on something, he replied to my comment saying God hates me and said I was a liar and quoted 2 scriptures. People who follow the Lordship salvation doctrine are full of themselves thinking they don't sin anymore and are holy going around judging calling them devils and unsaved people when they don't even know their hearts.

In 1 Corin14:34&35,it's speaking to wife's Let Your Woman,NOT WOMEN! And the word should be wife, the wife is commanded to be under obedience,as also says the Law.Then ask their husbands at home. This is a wife&husband relationship. NOT AlL WOMEN!!

The scriptures are from God,but man is interrupting many wrongly ,and some words isn't translated correct. Both these scriptures, you can see it speaking to husband&wife relationships!

Thank You for that,1Corin.14:34,35 is speaking to husbands,(Let your women), (Ask their husbands) not every women in ever church would have a husband , Some would be single or widow's. So this is speaking to this church,of their disorder. In 1Corin.7:34:35 which note this is said by Paul before 1Corin.14:34. Telling them to remain single so that they can attend to The Lord ,without distraction! He would 't be telling all women this, but the ones that's called to ministry!

In 1Tim.5:1,2 is showing us, the class of Eldership , made up of these people, young& old and both MALES&FEMALES ! A ELDER, is A PASTOR! And the word Elder was never used in the Bible to mean Older Saint! In our language now, a Elder can mean older, but in the bible, it meant a PASTOR or CHURCH LEADER! And there were WOMEN who were called Elders ie(PASTORS) . Then you read in Titus2:1-3 that the class of regular saints, young& old both male&females !
