It's mainly Eric Satie's, Gymnopedie" No.1 written in Paris in 1887. One of the most gorgeous simple melodies ever written. No's. 2 and 3 are also marvelous.
One of the greats at work. I have a Shearing CD where there is a version of Summertime where he uses Debussy-like harmonies. A sophisticated, refined pianist and blind too, just like Art Tatum. Sadly, the vast majority of people in Shearing's native Britain have never heard of him. He was knighted by the Queen, but only very late in life and it should have happened much earlier. Sadly, jazz and classical music are minority interest music these days. The world would be a better places if more people listened to these two genres.
Very beautiful piano tune. I only thing pure thoughts to this song. Gets me thinking of various beautiful things in life like raising my kids to be strong and good men, doing my best and seeing them to adulthood. Sharing all the love I have for the gifts that God has given me. Something like that. Thank you George Shearing.
No you're not - it's just that this is the first time I've heard these two songs blended, or I would have responded a lot sooner. I have always loved "It Never Entered My Mind" and I knew the other melody, which has been used in several movies. Now I know its title too: Gymnopedie from piano No.1 'Lent et douloreux' from Eric Satie. Gorgeous! It will now be in my all time top 10 (of any genre). I'm getting goose bumps as I listen and write this.
@MrZekervan - Nope I have had this unique arragement for years and never get tired of listening to it. I think I never will ever get tired of the arrangement just different than the the regular way it is always is played. Your intuitition is spot on.
Thank you for recognizing this brilliant take: it is haunting. You are so right...but listen to how George Shearing hits those certain notes and flies with everything he has practically ever played. I love him but I must be so much older than all of you responders....This is so touching...I feel like I am right back there...listening to this!
george shearing has passed away on feb 14th in ny...one of the few remaining giants of jazz...composer of lullaby of birdland....he saw and heard everything far better than most humans....there should be one happy audience up there wherever he is...
Peggy Lee and George did this song together about 1960..You could tell Peggy was reminiscing about a lost love...beautiful...you will understand if you are a jazz afficianado............
@fbdrfbdr as i mention in the introduction..."it never entered my mind" is by rodgers-composer- and hart-lyrics...not miles davis.....and blending with the tune is satie's gymnopedie no.1...as you also have pointed out....just beautiful
Thanks for mentioning that... I would have if you hadn't. Satie was great. Miles Davis was great. But George Shearing will always be one of my better favorites!
This correct name of this music (adaptation) is "Gymnopedie from piano No.1 'Lent et douloreux' from Eric Satie. "It Never Entered my Mind" is a Miles Davis music. Fabio
At the end of a love affair, sitting by a fire, drink in hand, lights out, looking through the window into the New York night...wondering where it all went.
A very strange presentation from drdogan : why to say 'into something far more beautiful.' ?? The first Satie's Gymnopédie is a masterpiece in itself, Shearing is making a jazz improvisation from it, that's different, and not 'more beautiful' in absolute terms.

Am I really the only one who finds this the most amazing song ever?
Thank you mr Shearing.
No...Mr Shearing made 2 great melodies into a masterpiece...
@@jamesmiller9515 He couldn't have chosen any two more beautiful songs to blend. Two of my favorites, performed by one of my favorite musicians.
Agreed

Thank you 4 Shearing !

Brilliant. Sheer Genius. This song sings to me more than almost any song ever did once I take the time to listen to it again.
Flawless. No words.
I love soft piano music. It relaxes the nerves and calms the soul.
Bill Evans' 'Peace Piece' used to be #1 on my piano jazz list. It is now #2. Thank you Mr. Shearing.
It was the best possible soundtrack choice for the end of the Lenny Bruce documentary, and why I heard of it at all. Thank you Mr. Shearing.
I m lucky bcoz it is Just like divine ringtone🥰🥰

Haunting, sad...but, somehow, this tune clarifies everything and sharpens the senses. It's truth incarnate, soaring ever higher than a miracle!

Superb Shearing.
Masterpiece by Sir George!

Wonderful
This only goes to show you the true DEPTH of Shearing's musicianship. And, why should any of us be surprised...
@MrZekervan my favorite piece by far, if ever, in this lifetime.

0 dislikes, you damn right 0 dislikes.

I've never hear Shearing playing this,
@MrZekervan Yes, I loved his playing, too! Thanks for the video.
a masterpiece ! --

beautiful
Could take you to any place you want it's that powerful.
this should be the next direction. I thought about the approach with Chopin's pieces. His coda is somehow out of the section some times.
Thanks for mentioning that... I would have if you hadn't. Satie was great. Miles Davis was great. But George Shearing will always be one of my better favorites!

Fabio
Intro and other passages are homages to Eric Satie's "Once Upon A Time In Paris." Slightly melancholy, introspective, evocative.
you c ant beat this song.... pure expressionistic foilbles
SURE sounds a LOT like Gymnopedie, by Eric Satie!! How come Satie gets no credit for this (apparent adaptation)?
At the end of a love affair, sitting by a fire, drink in hand, lights out, looking through the window into the New York night...wondering where it all went.
Was it a dark and stormy night?
Why’s it gotta be an affair and add a stain to the song? That song is clean and pure, not sick and full of stench.
LATOHOUSTON EXACTLY what I was thinking!!! This song is pure beauty. Don’t ruin this song for me and what I feel when I hear it.
Im rackin my brain...what movie was this in?
"At First Sight" Mark Isham 2008
used by paul cavalconte now hosting both the Saturday and sunday show on wnyc fm in place of jonathan schwartz
This piece is originally a piano exercise.
Him completely disappearing? Nope :{
esta es la musica que dross usa en sus videos ?

Wonderful. But not something I can listen to on a daily basis, just too sad. And I need a bit of pep to get me/keep me going. So AC/DC, you're next!
Clever use of Erik Satie's music.
If you want fast, SKIP the rock trash and queue up some up-tempo Bird, Clifford Brown, Tal Farlow, Coltrane... That's at least high-quality "pep".
