This is unbelievably confusing. I just want my author pages to look better!

The layout design may seem confusing, but once you design one, it becomes pretty straightforward. It took me a while to figure out how to customize the author page. For author pages, the key is "Specific Author Page" which you see in 3:35. If you click on it, you will see the list of users. Then, you can assign a layout just to users and exclude other archive pages. The Avada Team needs to change the "All Categories" text under the Specific Author Page to "All Authors".

Why can't I see the Blog Archives, a Single post on my layout page? I only see the global.

Only the Global Layout is there by default. All other layous you must build yourself. Unless you use the Setup Wizard, or import a prebuilt, and in that case they will be made / imported for you. .
