I started watching your videos about a year ago when I started applying to PhD programs and now, here I am, entering my first year of my PhD! Love the videos and thanks for giving us some insight into your day to day life as a PhD student :)
HI Katherine, in the beginning of the semester, how do you usually map out ALL SYLLABUS, and what kind of system or tool do you use for organize all things as a PhD student? Happy back to school !!! I watched ur video when I was in my country, now I am in your country !!!
There was a children's movie set in WWII Europe where children were being taken by the state and it feels wrong to think that it's "Peter Pan". I'll look...
I came in with an MA and my particular committee wanted me to just take the exams as they felt I was ready! (The rest of my cohort also came in with MA's but won't be taking the exam until this next spring.... so it all depends!)
How long do you think it will take you to finish your program? I am taking my qual exam after this semester as I am finally in my final course of my program! I know it varies by program, the study, and time commitment. Thanks!
I am hoping to finish in 6 years total- so 4 more years. There are several people in our department who are in their 7th year and have been able to secure funding, but I'd like to finish in 6!
@@KatherineWeiss Oh wow! It took me two years (including this semester) to wrap up course work. I am in a Family Consumer Sciences PhD program at Texas Tech and my dissertation will be a study on LGBTQ+ financial literacy, hoping to identify the unique challenges the community faces in personal finances and provide more insight to finance professionals working with the community. I was hoping it would take me one year from start to finish but I know that is an ambitious goal. Thanks!
@@Queerfi Oh wow super interesting! This def varies by program and study so don't let my answer scare you off! history takes a while because of all the archive research and multiple trips abroad. I finished course work in two years, but the rest of my cohort will finish in three - so it just depends!
@@KatherineWeiss Was mine during childhood as well. I used to play it on Gameboy Color hah. Love your videos! I am working on my statement of intent and I will be applying for a PhD in English
