This was a fun one. I would have probably added Supermassive games as an indie developer. Maybe not in my top 5 but I really love to give a nod to independent companies. Silent Hill 3 is a phenomenal game and I'm low key excited for the remake of 2 as well
Yeah this was a little different type of list. Figured it might be fun to see what kind of list i'd come up with cause i hadn't thought about what my favorite companies actually are probably ever. Like usually, i went more old school. I'm a grumpy old guy. Also back then everyone was kinda independent i think. Gaming got more popular after 2000 so those old companies had a good headstart so they just kinda suddenly were the big corporations if they were still in the gaming business, or so i would guess it went.
First time I played Monkey Island was when my friend brought over the SEGA CDx, the Genesis Sega CD hybrid. We played it all day. Super confused most times, but boy did we try to solve those puzzles. In terms of game companies, I think I lean more towards the developers side. I like Vanillaware, Arkane, Dont Nod has been good recently with Banishers and Jusant. Overall I think Capcom as a company and developer has been great esepcially with Dragon's Dogma 2 coming out soon.
Yeah a lot of those point and click games back then a lot of times had this weird kinda logic at times. I don't think i beat any of them without at least few peeks at walkthroughs.😄
Oh yes i totally agree with you. Every company has their quirks that are not the most human friendliest. This is kinda like choosing the nicest guy in prison. EA, Ubisoft and Activision could have been on this list probably 10-15 years ago but i feel like they're the worst though and the last decade that trio is the biggest reason why triple A companies have shifted towards being just a blackholes of creativity, pushing safe copy paste formula that guarantees good money.

Some good games...still not sure if any of them are actually good companies mind. They all seem to have their flaws....we're looking at you EA!
