'We've joined Indian Navy as Agniveers as we want to serve our country'

- The Indian Navy was the first among the three armed forces that inducted Agniveers in November 2022 after the ‘Agniveer Scheme’ was launched in June that year. At INS Chilka, located 105 km away from Odisha's capital Bhubaneshwar, about 2597 Agniveers, out of which 273 are women, are getting trained to join the Indian Navy. Here, these boys and girls are undergoing a rigorous training regime that is focussed on making them physically fit and also understand the discipline of joining the armed forces. This is the first batch of Agniveers which is going to pass out of INS Chilka on 28 March. They will now undergo professional training at the Indian Navy’s other bases starting 1 May, 2022. ABPLive's Nayanima Basu spent a day with the Agniveers at INS Chilka as they prepare to begin a whole new journey that is aimed at protecting the country and securing its maritime borders.

I was a trainee at Chilka during it's commissioning in February 1980 and also an Instructor during 1990-93. Very proud to see the drastic changes of the base and it's training facilities to induct the Agniveers including womens. ❤🎉

For the first time ever, women Agniveers have been inducted into such a large armed force service. Brothers , hundred dollar question is who will be in 25%, what are the measures taken to avoid corruption. What are those good opportunities which are invisible to the present the same Naval technical ex-servicemen and finally becoming security guards.
Son and daughter of politicians will get foreign education and will settle in foreign countries and to die in battlefield they will motivate and send son and daughter of general public (aam aadmi), who will not have equally good future prospect or earnings/financial security. With only patriotic feelings we can't bake our daily breads.
Maximum Indians are patriotic and the same naval soldier can do anything for the nation but apart from this personal life of a sailor is bizzare. Perks are comparatively good as compared to a non graduate guy. In my view the only good thing in navy was retirement after 15 years and these scheme has ended it plus leave of only 45 days which was earlier 90 days(can avail appx 60 days due to less manpower). Agniveer is good for only those guys who can utilise the 12 lakh and 4 years savings in future life. Rest of all personal will be a matter of joke and burden for thier family. Thats all
