The Good News is that Brill didn't actually kidnap my family. The Bad News is that the fake discount code in this video (.00025% off) would still be more than what Brill does offer, which is nothing off because academic publishing is a cartel enforced scam.

It is and its atrocious to always release these hardbacks at very high prices. April 1st aside however, all the major academic publishers are in on it. Not sure why Brill gets the thick end of the stick though: I have many of their Ukiyo-e books in particular of theirs and to be fair to them they're amongst the finest printed volumes I own.

April Fools aside, Brill does have an Open Access PDF section of about 1000 books. None of which has been to now referenced on this channel but there are a selection of Dead Sea Scrolls, Nag Hammadi, and at least one Alchemical title along with a few on subjects you never thought you might be interested in until you find out somebody wrote about them.

Interestingly (perhaps?!?), the only publication of mine that I've had translated into another language thus far has been an article I wrote for a Dutch Celtic Studies newsletter; I don't speak or read Dutch myself, but a colleague who is Dutch very kindly translated it so it could appear, and it remains one of my more amused and content moments (I won't say "proud" because I don't think that's the appropriate term!) in my academic publishing career up to this point! ;)
I am not sure if I'll be there to see it or not, but I would certainly like to be...at Kalamazoo in the exhibits hall, it would be hilarious if someone at the Brill booth knew about this video and knew you were coming, and a whole scene follows, with Dr. Attrell and I having to play Secret Service agents for you (though he'd be far more effective at that than I am...I'm just tall!).
