we're just fixing a 50-year-old part that failed. it's a pretty important part though allows you to time the motor and keeps it from vibrating itself to death

Good idea to check it. Even if it looks good check that your timing marks are accurate 😜

Was that a factory dampener...? Did you replace it a dedicated performance unit?

It was a stock unit, and I just replaced it , the original was good for all them years . See no reason to upgrade the part . A performance version won't make the car any faster .
