Okay, I'm happy you showed how to replace the motor mounts on the tri-pac APU. But my question is, seeing as the truck does not look that old, what was the hours on the APU? The motor mounts, in my mind, shouldn't have failed that quick. Great video, love the channel!!! Keep em coming!!!!
My 2014 tripac not only had bad motor mounts bushings but bothaluminum motor mount was busted in half. Thermoking redesigned them using steel, thermoking said its pretty common for the brackets to break
You take a wrench or a ratchet and idk like an hour and 10,000 bolts later you got them off. I give mine the factory update, most of the covers I took off and threw away. Only one I make a real effort to salvage and keep intact is the rear side bottom (muffler bolts to that and protects ac compressor and alternator on each side) and the top cover to keep ac run off from running inside along new fuse I put in.
Awesome Awesome video bud I really enjoy these they really help me out with making side money and they keep me from dealing with my master tech at work!!!!
Now for all of us who have a Volvo, where the tripac is mounted up under the sleeper, how the heck do we safely use a jack without damaging the oil pan? I dont see anyway i could try to get anything between the lifting eye of the engine and the sleeper. Any ideas?
Koon Trucking do you think the fan is the issue and get a new one? The second fan attached to the cab does turn on but not the one attached to the apu. I checked all the fuses and did reset the unit and fan still wouldn’t work.
@@yoban360 the 2 fans does 2 different things The one attached to the cab is your condenser fan when you are using the air conditioning The fan attached to the unit itself is your engine cooling fan Probably the brushes are worn out Try powering the fan directly from a battery and see if you dont have wiring issues
redo the connections on the back of the alternator, especially the smaller white wire.. all these wires are close to exhaust and heat from alternator.. the wires will get brittle from heat and the connectors will loosen from vibrations.
What is a APU?? We have thermo king in the uk and there fridge motors on trailers or rigid lorries{trucks} And you used a engine crane a cherry picker is something completely different in the uk.
I was like #45 how about that. Not like it's anything special I just thought it would be a good idea to let everybody know. I really don't care what it is I wanna see a how to video when something goes south.
So I know the recommendation was not to lift it from the bottom, but what if I wanted to do it that way, what would be the best way to lift it from the bottom without damaging the engine? So I rewatched the video, and it’s possible to do it with a (bottle) jack and a long and wide piece of wood to distribute the weight.
I got a bottle jack. I don't have much choice but to jack it up since my apu is mounted under my sleeper. I definitely don't want to pull the whole thing off to do it. But rear mounts, the drive belt side of engine is about 4 inches maybe from my fuel tank so not sure how the hell I'm doing the back mounts.
@@brandondunn8397 Get yourself plenty of wood and cut them so they fit right under the edge of the oil pan where the bolts go. Don’t put it under the oil pan because it could deform it. Ideally you want to have two bottle jacks, but it can still be done with one and a wrecking/pry bar, but be careful while using the wrecking bar because it could move the entire engine, making it fall off the bottle jack.

The truck was 2012 but that apu is much older. It was pulled off another truck and outlasted the truck and then was placed on this truck.
@@KoonTrucking oh, okay. Thanks for your answer!!!
Motor mounts on my unit gave up after 10000 hours of service
Great video on replacing mounts. Now I’m ready to replace mine.
Great post sir and good work Bill.

It's amazing TK builds this stuff and comes up with these updates that cost hundreds of dollars.
I use two prybara to lift it and change the mounts
Did you use Prybar on Both sides or only in Front ?
If I only knew how to get those covers off like that.Great video!! 👍

Thanks to this video, Today I saved $ 475 that they charge me to change the mount of the Thermo King Tripac....Thanks

Would these motor mounts being old or worn out be the cause of excessive vibration from the APU?
Yep! Big time!
@@KoonTrucking ok thank you!
Another awesome informative vid.

No clue man, i was fortunate enough to not take in Volvos other than oil changes
Thanks great video
Man, y’all are alright in my book..👍🏼
The fan connected to my APU won’t work, so it shuts down the unit from over heating?!
Just replace it. You can buy just the fan motor

Be so kind to give me those filter numbers, tired of paying Thermo King
Napa Auto Parts can cross reference them for you, belts too
much easyer to put them other way around, smaller peace on bottom. thats what i did anyways...might not be right by book same thing to me.
how to fix an ALT alarm in a thermo king tripack
already change the alternator

Check the ground studs
Oops didn’t realize how old this comment was
Nice. I guess you spend more time taking those covers off, then anything on the that one? Great little motors though love them
What is the other part called. The part of the mount attached to the engine? I have 1 broken.

Michael Matthews - APU - Auxillary Power Unit. And yes, Cherry Picker very different here in the UK!
No matco today??
No Michael had some stuff come up so ?
@@KoonTrucking oh ok
what is the part number on that inline fuel filter behind air filter.. its much bigger than the oem replacements ive been using???
Would of been better with the king of the hill music when bill was working fast
I hate workin on them dam things , got to remove 50,000 things just to get the one goddamn part u gotta replace 😡

This is what I would do
With a floor jack and a piece of 2x6
You only need to jack up about 2 inches.
