I don’t know why anyone uses scissors to cut out pattern pieces, when a cutting mat and a rotary cutter cuts the time in half or less. My brief sojourn into quilting taught me so much about cutting! I also cut my paper patterns with my fabric, and just change the blades more often. I learned from Sandra Betzina to interface my fabric before cutting it out, instead of cutting fabric and then interfacing, and trying to fit the two pieces together.
catching up with your older vids... I think a lot of us HATE cutting! I sew a lot of bags so I usually have to cut interfacing as well. I generally adhere the interfacing to the fabric before I cut out the pieces. My main issue is that I have no place to cut except the floor of my sewing room. My cat loves that but my back does not. I have been thinking of using the kitchen counter, but I don't like the idea of spreading my projects into another room. I wish I were as organized as you!
I got tired of cutting on the floor so I upgraded to my cutting table. I’ve had it for years and now it’s wobbly so I’m in the market to find another one that folds down to a reasonable size and has rolling wheels.
I share dislike for cutting out patterns, I don’t what it is my least favorite thing to do. I learned to sew from my Grandmother and she would many times cut out and mark my patterns for me I was so spoiled. She loved doing it.
When ever my grandma has helped me with projects I get her to mark everything with tailors tacks, which is her FAVORITE thing to do. And that’s why I’ve never learned to make them properly 😂
I don’t personally use pinking shears- mine are really hard to use and make my hand cramp. Thankfully there is a pinking blade I can use with my rotary cutter.
These tips are for beginners.. The word beginner should be in the title. I'm tired of videos on faster sewing talking about the rotary cutter. Everyone knows what the rotary cutter is unless you're absolutely new to sewing.
No they’re not for beginners, they’re for anyone who is looking for tips. I learned to sew in the 90s and rotary cutters weren’t around back then. I never thought about spending the money to buy one, along with the mats, until I realized how much time using a rotary cutter could save me. Additionally I never thought to cut paper patterns with one until a viewer mentioned that’s what she did. Feel free to start your own RUclips channel and title your videos the way want 😉
@@SewSewLounge wow no need to get so defensive. I was just sharing my opinion. Everyone I know who sews uses a rotary cutter.. it’s common knowledge amongst most ppl who sew. I just personally didn’t find this video useful.

I will have to try that interfacing tip! I’ve never heard that before. Thank you ☺️
Excellent tip! I would never have thought of that.

We must consider ourselves truly blessed Grandmothers are really a Godsend.
