The Vanity Fair interview was really upsetting for me. The whole "I pulled him" thing is EXACTLY the type of shit I would say when I was 14 and being pursued by a 21 year old. I did not pull anyone, I was being groomed and it was disgusting.

My first partner was 23 or 24, and the older I get, the more I feel like the fact that I was 16 was a problem. I really winced when I saw that interview, wow that was painful. I could see myself so clearly, and I felt so bad for Billie.

As a "The Neighborhood" fan (Jesse is the lead singer of the band) I will admit the relationship gave me the creeps, I'm not defending Jesse I'm just saying even I as fan of his music, do not have my head so far up my ass to realize the relationship wasn't the best cause I'm pretty sure there have been TNB fans that have defended him. Thank you for coming to my little ted talk

The thing about all of this is, young teens dont know any better. they often think theyre cool and desired for 'pulling' way older people. A lot of the times theyre even enthusiastic about it and agree to the relationship wholeheartedly.
The older people of the relationship ABSOLUTELY know better. They should not under any circumstances pursue minors. no matter how into it the minor is. it is your job as a fucking adult then to say "no. Im not going to do that."
it's literally the bare minimum to not start a relationship with a minor.
So yeah, minors often dont see it that way when theyre in the relationship, but adults know what theyre doing and absolutely should not be doing it. minors being positive towards the relationship does not make it okay.

exactly!!! one should be scared and so reluctant in this world for families who don't love their children …. Or siblings who don't love their siblings… THIS is NOT normal, this should scare in this world and NOT 2 siblings loving each other bc this is normal 😂 they also grew up as twins, because they were homeschooled and then now they see each other every day bc they work together. . And this is how every older brother treats their younger sister and vice versa, for me my younger sister is as if she were also my daughter because I raised her too, for me she is my world.. 😅 not only is she the my best friend but having been older I felt responsible for her and her life.. always! She is my baby too! This world is so over, you understand this when ppl behave as if love between siblings / your own family is not normal, these people must go to therapy because they must have serious family problems

I think age gaps, polyamory and open relationships and dating your friends in rotation (and maybe even their exes) is more normalised in queer circles than in our heteronormative society in general. I think that because we are atypical through the lens of society, our guidelines for how we should model our relationships aren't quite as strict as the guidelines cis/het people follow.

I was groomed by my teacher when I was 15-16. At the time I thought I liked him, and that it was okay for me to be with him. He was 37. I am now 28, and for a long time I blamed myself for what happened, I was SO naive. I don't talk about this with anyone because it gives me a very weird and painful feeling. I know Billie's case is different, but what I am saying is: At 16/17 we think we know everything, and we know what we want, and we have good judgement, but it's not true. A 16 year-old is a CHILD!

The comment on female artists being pressured to have eras defined by style/aesthetic is sooo true! Another example is MARINA who fans constantly ask about when she’ll return to her Electra Heart era when she has publicly spoken (!!) about how the Electra Heart persona was born from a terrible time in her mental health and she actively took a break to distance herself from it! Like the pressure to make a persona for an album release or an era is sooooo overwhelming and I’m sure lots of artists feel like they need to rediscover what they actually enjoy making and who they enjoy being :,(

Not every artist has to have Eras. Not every artist is Taylor swift bro. It's her thing, it doesn't start and end with taylor but it feels like people are pushing the Eras thing on other artists because of her career. People's lives are not broken up into Eras. Hahaha. I feel this relief as someone with a different neurological condition. Some girls really were making videos about tics when they didn't have the neurological condition - but it was psychogenic, not "faking."
The stress of the pandemic, their whole lives turning upside down, possibly losing loved ones, and all the political turmoil was part of the cause. Then there were a lot of people talking about Tourettes and showing their tics. The combination of emotional distress and watching a lot of Tourettes attacks led some of them to have psychogenic Tourettes attacks. They got therapy and they're good now. It's fascinating.
I say all this because psychogenic seizures and other attacks also happen. It's talked about more as years go by, but there's a big stigma around it. Usually psychogenic episodes/disorders are tied to trauma, and they eventually go away with therapy. But it's not "I'm stressed I'm gonna intentionally fake" it's "my brain cannot handle what is going on and is now going a bit haywire." The people don't know it isn't being caused by the actual disorder, because it's an uncontrollable thing their brain is doing without their knowledge. That's still scary
I was incorrectly diagnosed with psychogenic seizures and I felt like crap. Partly because I knew they were wrong, but also just because of the stigma. It turned out I have Narcolepsy with Cataplexy. I still raise awareness about psychogenic illnesses because I don't want anyone that truly does have one to deal with that stigma.

    • @lifaen
      @lifaen 10 месяцев назад +9

@@lizzyblitz07 This is very interesting, thank you for talking about that.
I personally "got" tics at the start of 2019, so whole year and something before pandemic. It was so weird. I'm interested in mental disorders so once I got interested in tourette's syndrome. I started thinking like what tics I would have if I had that syndrome. Not wishing I would have it, just thinking what it would look like. Then one video about DID triggered me in a way I started to have tics. It was so weird, I kept thinking about like if I really have it and that I'm faking it and the more I was thinking about faking it and arguing with imaginary people in my head about not faking it, the more I had tics.
As time passes, I have tics less and less. Now I'm self-diagnosed with ADHD, OCD and autism. One of autism symptoms can be also tics. I also learned that more people than I would think have tics, they just never talk about them.
Now I'm curious if therapy will help me. But idk if I need help, like I mostly have tics only when I'm really stressed or uncomfortable, but also only if I'm between people I trust.
I also heard that tics produce dopamine and like...I think that's why I felt like tics are my brain's coping mechanism. I always rather had tics than feel nothing and be depressed.

The issue with Harry Styles in particular is that his band mate has released statements several times saying he is straight, always has been, is married to a woman and has children, has never been in any sort of romantic or sexual relationship with any man, including Harry and he’s found the speculation around the two of them deeply hurtful. Harry has refused to verify that statement and many people see that as a purposeful PR move. Harry doesn’t need to confirm or deny his sexuality, but he could confirm that he has never been in any sort of relationship with his band mate beyond a friendship and working relationship.

During her teenage years, Billie has always been told that she looks and thinks so mature for her age. She was always smart but she was not mature, she was a teenager, behaving like a teenager, talking like a teenager. I think she started to believe that she is mature, because this is exactly what happened to my older sister. My sister had Billie's body type when she was 13 and she thought she was so mature and whatever... A bunch of older men became intested in her and eventually, she dated a 27 years old CREEP. Obviously, it was an intimate relationship and when my parents found out...they freaked. But refused to press charges against this pedo, because he promised them that he will mary my sister when she turns 18. So anyway, 2 years passed, my sister was 15 and she broke up with him because he was an emotionally abusive, DISGUSTING piece of shit.
The moral of the story is, my sister grew up to realize that she had daddy issues and went to therapy for it becaude apparently, it isn't right to date old creeps. She's 30 now and she's doing just fine but the trauma is still there and it will never fully go away
Do i think Billie needs therapy? YES!!!!
Because she was sexualized and objectified by older men when she was just a kid and she doesn't realize that it fucked her up.

There is no such thing as “daddy issues”. There is childhood trauma, which can sometimes be caused by the actions or neglect of a father, that’s it. The term “daddy issues” is used a stick to beat women with for being “psychos” or as a fetish. Men in their 30s who have a sexual relationship with a 13 year old kid likely have “daddy issues” too but we only ever use the term to describe young women and its gross.

Normalize talking about it and making older people feel very, very weird about dating young people (especially teenagers)

This is something I have wondered about for a long long time. I am exactly the same and I know lots of woman are. I’ve often wondered if it’s because we have been constantly bombarded with images of what a sexy young woman looks like since we were kids. Magazines aimed at girls and women almost always feature a sexy woman on the cover. Female pop stars with a 99% female audience were always over sexualised in a “for the male gaze” way despite it being young girls watching the music videos and going to the concerts. No wonder women grow up and think...that woman is hot, I think I fancy that woman...but don’t actually have any desire to be with the woman. Does that make sense? When you are constantly shown an image of woman with the message this is sexy, this is sexy, this is sexy and almost no images of men, no wonder we end up thinking women are sexy even if we date straight? I dunno.

I also encourage people to look into functional neurological disorder which is even lesser known but can mimic TS and some specialist believe the uptick in TS is actually people misdiagnosing themselves with TS when they most likely have FND. Tourette's is neurological, it's in your genetics and you have symptoms from early childhood on. FND can develop at any life stage but usually resolves with treatment as it has more to do with mental health and anxiety disorders (which is still a valid and legit diagnosis) FND can mimic other health issues too but it's basically when there isn't physically anything wrong with your body but something is causing your brain to think and act like there is. OMG this has gotten way too long but I had to do my daily advocacy for TS and FND because we need people to learn about both so accurate diagnoses and treatment can occur. You're a queen.

But all in all, that’s something that I get to unpack and figure out and don’t have to decide right this minute. Demanding a solid answer about someone’s sexuality is never okay and I hate that people do it under the guise of calling out queerbaiting, even though you can’t even queerbait as a person as you stated.

The whole grooming thing happens too often in Hollywood to boys and girls and it’s sick I remember hearing stuff about the Billie thing and I felt so bad and the ‘queerbaiting’ thing always made me mad

you think it happens too much there because there are few of them and it seems more frequent, but that happens everywhere unfortunately but ppl don’t talk about this , bc it’s almost normal in our society ... and Q and other men in Billie life was not from Hollywood, they were all unknowns and Q friends .. she has always hung out with people not famous

Beautiful job. The bag works well, too. Here for it. I was guessing you might do a Kardashian chronically online video since you & Jake talked about it on the pod.

I know nothing about any of the topics she talks about, but I’m always entertained by the subjects. But what mostly keeps me coming back is her personality and the way she talks, very humorous and fun to listen to. Looking forward to the next video.

Honestly people who say they are xyz usually lie to themselves.
I’m bi and I was SO straight, lol.
It took 6 years until I realized I was lying to myself

I find it funny how many people accused a queer girl of queerbaiting. Same thing happened with Demi Lovato. People need to stop assuming they know someone else's sexuality.

Just discovered your channel and the fact that you're unlabeled speaks to me as someone who isn't clear or want to explore more on that side of my identity either (not that its bad to explore it but I just want to stay that way).
Speaking of taking your time to know your own identity, it does suck when people rush you to "define it". I had an experience once when a bi classmate pressured me to come out as bi after mentioning my experiences and it felt so uncomfortable being rushed to put a label on your own identity especially when you're not sure it suits you. Thanks for sharing your experience even if it was just mentioned briefly

no bc i love the blonde era and will never understand ppl that hate on it. to me that whole album about was healing and growth. like the blonde fits so well and her aesthetic made sense for that time (clean girl trend uprising) i loved her girly aesthetic bc it was such a switch up and showed her being more comfortable in her body.

i love your take on the queerbaiting. since graduating high school i have decided to not label my sexuality because i find it stressful trying to explain my sexuality to someone else when i don’t even fully understand it myself. i’ve had crushes on girls, i was basically as close to being in a relationship with my best friend in high school as a girl who is afraid to like girls could have been to the point where we were constantly asked if we were dating by classmates. and then last year i became friends with this very outwardly queer girl who made being a lesbian like her whole personality. she used to tell me i’m straight, i’m queerbaiting, she doesn’t get why i am unlabeled if i’m so clearly straight to her,,,, let’s just say she was a very toxic person and i’m not friends with her anymore. it always rubbed me the wrong way that she was trying to tell me who I AM. being accused of queerbaiting made me feel like i was lying when i wasn’t. i’m only a few months younger than billie, we have our whole lives to figure out who we are. only we know who we are, not some random people on the internet. and loving women isn’t queerbaiting, it’s just a based opinion :)

I entered an age gap relationship when I was 22, he is 6 years older than me. We are currently engaged and have been together for three years and I can tell you that even as a legal adult it is very difficult dating someone who is significantly older than you when you’re 18-23. You’re in different stages of life, there can be real or perceived power dynamics that affect your relationship, and one person is significantly less mature than the other. You’re still figuring who you are and what you want in life in your early twenties and dating someone older only works if the older person doesn’t take advantage.

People say that all that Billie does is queerbaiting when she's literally just a bissexual 😂
Bisexuality doesn't have to be "proportional", just because she dated men doesn't mean she has to now date women in order to "deserve" her bisexuality.
It sucks to be put down all the time and bissexual people go through it even inside our own community.
I've always dated girls and I'm still bisexual, being with women doesn't make me more lesbian or less attracted to men, I haven't found a man I wanted to date, and that's FINE.
Let people live their sexuality as they pleaseeeee
