Been watching the races for 25 years now. I look forward to the Truck and Busch races a lot more than the Cup races. As drivers are coming up through these series, they are learning how to be aggressive and clean which is sometimes what we see in the Cup series. Ever since they went to double file restarts, GWC's, and stage racing, NASCAR has been highlighting aggressiveness more and more. The entire points system rewards winning and there's only room for one winner in each race. Besides, didn't we just see Harvick and Elliott wreck each other out of the Cup championship a couple years back? Kenneth and Logano ring any bells? These are all just chapters in the story. There's only 1 carrot and 40 rabbits all want it. What do you think is going to happen?
That was an embarrassing event for NASCAR especially with the championship race. Thankfully Xfinity and Cup raced clean but I still don't believe the championship should be decided by 1 race
I agree 1 race to determine a championship is a joke. They could just reset like they do and strictly go by points from then until the end. No knockouts until the end.
Just a thought I had today, so in football the Super Bowl isn’t necessarily the team with the most wins, or who had the better season or who scored the most points. It’s who got into to the playoffs and showed up, and was there at the end. I think the one race thing is odd but I don’t know how you would fix it. I’m merely brainstorming please don’t destroy me
I was in attendance Friday night. I think what isn't being talked about but SHOULD be is that the Truck race wasn't a dumpster fire purely because of Carson and Corey. There were multiple wrecks going into T3 that were just stupid driving. Marco Andretti gets hooked on the straightaway for basically last and sends Chris Hacker drivers side into the wall. There was an incident with the 66 and 61 that was just bone headed driving for inconsequential positions. Then there's Bayley Currey INTENTIONALLY WRECKING Stefan Parsons into the wall which gives Daniel Dye a concussion and takes him out of an opportunity Saturday in an Xfinity car. Then after Corey completely changes the race with his retaliation, they all lose their minds again. The 15 (Heim's teammate) just piles into T3 and ultimately takes out the 77. Then the next restart Rhodes just runs over Zane Smith (yes, Zane missed a shift). Then Jesse Love (oh look, another Heim teammate) just blatantly dumps the piss out of Majeski and causes a big wreck. There were infinitely more clowns creating the circus out there than just Carson and Corey. If anything, Carson's aggressiveness was at least going for a Championship. All the others were wrecking for no damn good reason, in multiple cases wrecking for positions in the 20's and 30's. THAT is why the Truck race should be considered a disgrace to the sport.

One of the many reasons any form of "playoff" format is an asinine way to handle any motorsports championship. There's a reason you won't find ANY other serious motorsport series that handles it this way. Sigh. Thank goodness I'm much more of a GT racing fan these days
You said it about Hocevar, Gibbs, Chastain and I’m sure others. “good drivers-might not make it”. Maybe they should have to hit puberty or stay in Arca longer or not jump from trucks to cup. Good luck to Hocevar.
Thanks Jr. You said what I've said since the race. My first impression was that Hocevar was faking his post-contact reaction. It was so phony. He knew the camera was on him. Pathetic actions on Hocevar's part.
Jr. is exactly right. Hocevar banging on the steering wheel and shaking his head in disbelief was totally not genuine. He intentionally got into Corey Heim.
What the icing on the cake, or nail in the coffin, was for that farce of a race was that Fox didn't even bother to send the announcers to the track. For a while you could only notice them missing something here and there. But as 12:30, 1:00 rolls around on the east coast, all three of them just checked out. The fact that they were surprised by pit stops under yellow didn't make anyone look good, and as the madness on track dragged on, Waltrip and Parsons weren't even speaking coherently and poor Jaimie Little was just set up for failure.
Nascar need to have incident points in the playoffs. They do that and drivers dont have to 'payback' you got to add Heim took his truck out of the race too. Thats a fact. At Martinsville watch 3 laps before carson bumped Gibbs out of the way.
I couldn’t agree more with Dale Jr.’s perspective on the Truck Series Championship race. He really hit the nail on the head with his analogy about the Daytona Duel races leading into the Daytona 500 weekend. Heim probably would have won the Truck Series race, if not for Hocevar’s ramming him. Then Enfinger would have won the race if Heim had not been selfish in the timing of his retribution. If this isn’t a case study in why “instant death” rounds don’t work in racing, then I don’t know what is. NASCAR and Brian France’s experiment in the NASCAR Playoff System needs to end. I understand not wanting the biggest teams to win every Championship, but the close parity in all 3 Series has gone a long way toward solving that issue. Let the best teams have a 10 race Playoff period at the end of each season - or maybe the final 25% of the year’s races to prove they can accumulate the most points and then deserve to be Champions. It works for Indycar, it works for IMSA Weathertech, and many other racing series. Combine a late year stretch of 10 races, and let the Champions prove themselves during that time period.
It's safe to say stage cautions suck and this playoff format is bad too. How about you just go back to total points at the end to wins the title? Award a point bonus for Pole and make race wins like double points. Award the top 3 podium positions 1st=double points
The playoffs are a bad joke. At least change it to 3 races for the title. Not just the one. Highest points total at the end of 3 races win. Makes more sense to me.
Trucks have definitely been better this year, than the last couple years, in terms of immature wrecking. But to say they don't have that reputation is asinine. Whether they uphold that reputation, EVERY week or not, hasn't changed that REPUTATION. The ARCA Brake Check shenanigans are just graduating to the next levels now.
Somebody up top has gotta start stepping in and dishing out some penalties, changing the in-race penalty system, etc to reign this in. Should be a rule that Carson should have been sent to the end of the line for the first incident. Heim should have been parked after the retaliation and should have some kind of fine/suspension for intentionally wrecking a guy (and costing Enfinger the championship) Currey should have some kind of fine/suspension for intentionally wrecking Parsons and knocking Dye out of the next day's race Love dump trucked Majeski out of the way on one of those overtime restarts and no one even cared
Lots of these guys, Hocevar & Heim in this case, have come up through go karts and late models in the last several years. All this didn't start in the Phoenix race. Paybackers have long memories. Plus, for my 2 cents, why do they let the very young guys run one race and it's the championship race?
Dale said... how do you come back from that? We all forget, this crap has been going on for yearrrs. Anyone remember Nemechek Jr. Slamming Custer into the wall on the last lap ? How's Nemechek now? Perfectly fine. He and Custer raced hard this whole season. They're fine. Everyone will forget this.
Dale should start a program to speak to every driver in every series about proper etiquette… and the impact it may have on careers.. some are locked in by golden spoons… but others are dependent on sponsorship. From late models to cup. Sprint cars etc.. do 4 big shows across the US.. you can drive a guy hard and still get the job done.. stuff will happen. But if you didn’t put yourself in a position to be in second with 6 to go.. you can’t dump 1 or 2 people to win. Turning someone on last lap is the most disrespectful act a driver can do.. i drove super late models for 2 years and asphalt winged sprint cars.. I had a 2 car team, and had a brother that drove second car, and couldn’t race behind him because all I thought about was the parts I’m going to have to buy someone else after a main, plus the time to repair my cars, ( the one he drove) Then fix it all by myself.. I got tired of the, hey if you get this I will be there for that.. never show up until race night to piss everyone off and damage mine and someone else’s equipment.. I got into a argument with someone he dumped, calmed them down and made him a deal for the 2 cars I ran that night plus everything associated with them. My brother hasn’t talked to me since, but I’m still cool with them.. I miss racing, but not doing everything myself..
I agree with everything you said. Corey said they’ve been racing each other since they were kids and Carson always raced like that and would play the victim and apologize and then do the very same thing the next week. It’s a shame because as you said Carson has potential but he sabotages himself.
After Hocevars performance at eldora at the dream, i figured out what kind of driver he is. When you bring a car back to the pits after EVERY heat, B feature, and feature with the deck knocked out and the rear sail panel hanging on by the bracket. I figured he was a joke.
Remember when Ernie Ervin was wrecking everybody? He got up in front of the other drivers and apologized! This way of driving has been around for a long time. "I only meant to rattle his cage! " Wonder who said that?
This newer Phoenix layout is dumb. Half the field is running around the apron and trying to pull off slide jobs or can't keep their cars/trucks down off people running the "normal" racing line.
Carson Hocevar is a talented driver without question. His issue is with emotional self control and the more. As a man, he needs serious self improvement in this area. Even the regret he “feels”when he loses control is over the top. The emotions pouring out of this kid are just far too feminine for the sport he’s trying to play in.
Hey Dale, I hope this helps.. I have problems with my voice (as an announcer) similar to yours (and Mike’s). To get past the junk in your throat, even if you’re having allergies, yell into a pillow for at least 3 minutes. Have you noticed that your Mondays are the most difficult, after you announce a race? Your voice is coating up!
Just my opinion but I don’t think the truck series needs this format. Allow them a season long points format. Would be totally fine for this series with a bunch of kids learning.
Same thing goes on in cup are you forgetting Ross last year😂 he crashed every one! And how many time did Earnhardt sr dump someone to win! It will never change its racing we will just forget 😂
Well there are a lot of good drivers out there I have respect for any drivers it be nascar cup or a local Saturday night dirt tracker. I drove had two sons and two grandsons that driving or have drove. And I know what I am going to say doesn’t me crap. But there Is is a kid driving the #35 truck I believe his A great guy and driver he finished 2nd in the race at Phoenix l have been watching him all season some team needs to look into this kid I really believe he would make a great driver and winning team go places. Ccvvvvvv
Im with u Jr, its almost like he done it on purpose, he knew the 11 was the best truck, ive never seen somebody get that animated about a mistake that took out his #1 competition.
I normally watch the trucks more than the others because a lot of the races are in the evening and don't last as long (usually). I turned that crap off Friday night. That was ridiculous. Most of these kids don't have the talent to be racing at this level.
Wait, what! Last week Dale said he loved the fact that Nasacr creates these game 7 moments to see what the drivers are willing to do. So now that he sees they're willing to do whatever it takes he calls it indefensible. Great flip flop Dale. How far up Nascar's butt have you crawled. The playoffs are, and have always been WWE on wheels and it's time someone who Nascar may actually listen to starts openly talking about what a joke the championship has become.
The part that annoys me the most is that Heim's truck was still in good shape and capable of winning had there been a late caution. When he destroyed his own truck.. that officially ruined their chance of winning.
I've been pondering if these "young kids coming up that never had to work on their cars" that have no problem driving rough is just us now seeing the generation that played racing video games growing up. I've seen how people play those games. Some treat it like reality, while others will just knock you out of the way. That does carry over into real life. You can get so used to doing it in virtual world, that you can't NOT do it in reality due to muscle memory. Just a thought
I don’t think Trucks, as a series, is mature enough to handle the Chase as a whole. Let them race like they did before the Chase, fans don’t need the exact thing across all 3 series.
That was the only truck race I watched this season and those drivers demonstrated third tier skills evident by the repeated inability to even complete one lap without wrecking for 3-5 restarts in a row. The fact that NASCAR continues with these ridiculous GWC rules just makes the lack of skills even more astonishingly stupid. STOP THE GWC!
I only give the drivers about 20% of the blame and I give NASCAR the other 80%. This stupid ass system to manufacture a "game 7 moment" does not work in this sport. There's a reason why you don't see gimmicky bullshit in the Olympic events. I would prefer NASCAR be viewed as a sport, not a show.
The race I saw yes Hocevar wrecked Corey, but he didn’t take Corey out of the championship. Corey did that himself by taking out Hocevar. I don’t like either driver so it was good when they wrecked out, but sucks big time for Enfinger cause if not for Corey doing what he did Grant would’ve won instead of Rhodes.

Your a team OWNER JR. YOU CAN FIX THIS ALL YOURSELF.
Dale Jr NEEDS to race the 24’ Slinger Nationals
Came here to say the same thing. Carson Hocevar and Nick Saban are very talented at their professions, but both are lousy actors.
Dale And Mike are sounding like I did last week when I started my "Nasty cold" of 9 days now. Get some rest and vitamin C guys.
Nascar is the WWE of motorsports.
It's sad his dad was the most guilty of this when he drove but he was the intimadator so it's cool
Nascar need to have incident points in the playoffs. They do that and drivers dont have to 'payback' you got to add Heim took his truck out of the race too. Thats a fact. At Martinsville watch 3 laps before carson bumped Gibbs out of the way.
You don’t need the playoffs in the first place
I wonder how does Nascar CEO feel about the Truck race. It truly was horrible and Hocevar isnt ready for Cup.
The CRAPSman 150 is what I call this race and what EVERYONE should call this race.
Heim should have been parked after the retaliation and should have some kind of fine/suspension for intentionally wrecking a guy (and costing Enfinger the championship)
Currey should have some kind of fine/suspension for intentionally wrecking Parsons and knocking Dye out of the next day's race
Love dump trucked Majeski out of the way on one of those overtime restarts and no one even cared
I had a 2 car team, and had a brother that drove second car, and couldn’t race behind him because all I thought about was the parts I’m going to have to buy someone else after a main, plus the time to repair my cars, ( the one he drove)
Then fix it all by myself..
Ok Jr glad to know wrecking someone intentionally and changing the outcome of the championship is all good
77 caution laps? Sounds like my first marriage
I agree with everything you said. Corey said they’ve been racing each other since they were kids and Carson always raced like that and would play the victim and apologize and then do the very same thing the next week. It’s a shame because as you said Carson has potential but he sabotages himself.
Of course Corey is going to say that. He's a punk.
It was really difficult to keep watching that race and not just go to bed.
It used to be grass down there. Too boring. Now they hype it... the Steve's think it's great!
Wrecking each other are equally messed up. One was just more costly.
The difference is Carson did not intentionally wreck Heim . Heim did intentionally wreck Hocevar though . Heim was way in the wrong .
Oh so it is like racing when racing was entertaining to watch.🤣🤣
Just my opinion but I don’t think the truck series needs this format. Allow them a season long points format. Would be totally fine for this series with a bunch of kids learning.
Carson did that to Ryan preece in the truck a few years ago back
He's done it at least a dozen times.
Same thing goes on in cup are you forgetting Ross last year😂 he crashed every one! And how many time did Earnhardt sr dump someone to win! It will never change its racing we will just forget 😂
Carson should have been penalized immediately with a two lap penalty. Rules like that will make a driver really think before they do something stupid.
How many 2 lap penalties did Earnhardt immediately get? 😂
Bumper cars is the truck series.
Ccvvvvvv
I believe his name is Jake Garcia #35
Im with u Jr, its almost like he done it on purpose, he knew the 11 was the best truck, ive never seen somebody get that animated about a mistake that took out his #1 competition.
Phoenix is probably less than a mile when they almost run across the infield!
Agreed. We need Jr to finally say that the playoffs are stupid and the championship is illegitimate.
The part that annoys me the most is that Heim's truck was still in good shape and capable of winning had there been a late caution. When he destroyed his own truck.. that officially ruined their chance of winning.
Hocevar = Crashstain Jr
I can’t believe Jr didn’t know Phoenix was a mile tract! There is literally no comparison whatsoever between it a Martinsville!
We need to get Jr a mute button for all these throat clearings lol
it was awesome
Someone from all 3 series have gotten wrecked. Matt Kenseth took out Joey Lagano.
The infinity and truck were more exciting than the cup.
I don't really want to hear about how talented a hack can be.
Good video.
Tony Stewart said he watched that truck race, and as a team owner, he now has a long list of drivers that he will never hire.
CAN I SAY SOMETHING ELSE? THEY ALL GREW UP WATCHING KYLE BUSH
Nothing against Ben but another point is it looks bad when the champion is so wasted he makes an ass of him self in his press conference
2 years in a row.
I don’t think Trucks, as a series, is mature enough to handle the Chase as a whole. Let them race like they did before the Chase, fans don’t need the exact thing across all 3 series.
I don't know - I thought The truck championship race was more exciting than Xfinity and Cup.
At that stage of the race, Nascar officials should have gotten on Cory’s radio and make him aware of potential consequences. Just Embarrassing
The playoff system rewards “dirty driving”.
Dale remember it takes two to Rangel!!
Jr is wrong here. Almost every veteran driver agrees Trucks was a shitshow.
Junior is saying the same thing. Did I miss something?
@@matthewjohnston1400 But he was saying that the Truck series and race wasnt any different than Xfinity and Cup…
@@BwInNewJersey hmm. Cup and Xfinity were good, clean races. If he said that, I’d disagree as well.
@@matthewjohnston1400 I agree. He definitely said Xfinity was the same, Mike disagreed. He basically making excuses for the drivers and they need to know thats not how to race imo
@@BwInNewJersey You both heard him wrong. What he said was that the end of the truck race at Phoenix was like the end of the xfinity race at Martinsville. Both were garbage.
