No kidding? In case you were not kidding, Jimmy first became popular in the early 50s as rhythm guitar player and lead singer for Bill Monroe. Jimmy helped write and recorded with Bill songs including “Uncle pen“, “little George Rose“, and “Letter from my darling“. These have endured to be bluegrass standards. Jimmy left Bill and formed a trio with Sonny and Bobby, The Osborne Brothers Andilable on RCA Victor Records. Finally, Jimmy formed his own group called “the Sunny Mountain boys” , Recording many songs on the Decca, which became MCA, label. Jimmy had a lot of songs that placed highly on the country charts along with Loretta Lynn and others. Sunny side of the mountain, Widowmaker, freeborn Man, Ocean of diamonds, 2020 vision are some of Jimmy‘s signature songs. Famous musicians that worked for Jimmy in those days include Paul Williams, JD Crowe, Bill Emerson, Doyle Lawson, Paul craft, and Alan Munde. Considering the musicians that cut their teeth on his music and his song catalog, Jimmy is still influencing Bluegrass music to this day. He passed away in around 2005.

The talk about the Grand ole Opry. The Grand ole Opry ain't nothing. There's as good, if not better bluegrass talent outside the opry. The Opry is a political thing, if you don't someone inside of the Opry that will kiss ass for you, you ain't getting in. Jimmy dam sure wouldn't kiss anybody's ass, didn't have to.
