It's very interesting how the hip movements are so similar with the arabian belly dances. Same techniques at dances that are from places so far away in the world. I guess it's just human anatomy that gives the idea of this kind of movement.

Both are core dances, and Ori Tahiti has taken a few belly dance steps (Ori Opu aka belly roll, and Tuanee aka hip roll) and incorporated it. Why it probably seems similar. Ori Tahiti is constantly evolving, so how they dance now is different than how they danced 10 years ago.

@@kilipaki87oritahiti I didn't know that new movements have been incorporated. Very interesting information. Thank you very much for sharing this with me.

This must me a new experience of Tahitian dance danced to songs never heard before. It is quite interesting, because all the complex interplay between dancers at the older tahitian dances I've seen must be very very dificult to do without a choreography and without knowing the song in advance. In traditional Ballroom balls here in Brasil there are some rules the couples must follow in order to make the best out of the often cramped space they move on. It is a consensus couples must move anticlockwise circling the space of the ball and that the couples that feel like moving less must move to the center of the ball. Maybe if some rules like those were created for tahitian dance colective non improvised dances could be made. Here I could sense a difference between the second place and the third place dancers. The second place dancer used her upper body far better, specially the arms. When dealing with complex songs it is a good idea to use different rythms in different parts of the body and finding a way for them to harmonise in something I would call a punchline of the song, then the crowd goes crazy. Normally in ballroom dancing the gentleman relies heavily on the lady in order to make those things possible, and the best ballroom dance couples can be often recognised when you notice the lady doing that. Traditionally the Gentleman was more responsible for the dislocation in space, therefore the convention of moving anticlockwise. Anyways I hope my comment may reach an answer that will lead me to thing those matters further.

Lol again if you knew what you where talking about you’d know there are rules within Ori Tahiti. Traditionally freestyle isn’t Tahitian. It’s been introduced through how they dance in Ori competitions in the US which outside of Tahiti is the largest, then Mexico and Japan. There are rules on the execution of each of the basic steps, as well as posture etc. But you would know this if you danced your self. Don’t compare ballroom to Ori.

A ak, buya the gyys win. That's no good. They win the music is more appealing. 👎🏾 Need stop act like tu friends, and bring real competitions. 🇺🇲 The music, clothes are more appealing. Ni don't see, much story, no much personality. Too cookie cutter.
