I’d say parallel compression (aka new york style compression) is the best for mixing boom bap beats especially. It’s taken my mixes to a whole new level, especially my drums… but quality sounds are always a must, then basic leveling and then parallel compression. This will take your mixes to a new level !!

Do you cut any low end out of your kick, or do you just leave it as is with the kick sample.
The most I would cut is up to 30hz. But it also depends on the kick itself. I don’t always cut
i always use a mvmeter .picks for drums and vu for instruments , drums -6/-12 .percs -20 .bass -10 /-16. instruments -10 to -20 masooomenooos. GREAT VIDEO !
I think alot of us mixing the same but in different ways. Super weird, but I am open to that argument. There’s just so many ways to get to the end result.

depends on how I setup the drum bus, typically I use the drum bus just to have everything routed to one place. most of the effects are on each instrument
