Japan is the place to go for these experiences. It’ll make anyone who thinks they’ve seen everything think twice. The country prides itself on manners, but not in ways you may expect. They consider it acceptable to do things like slurp your soup or drink in public but shun leaving tips.
Navigating cultural norms is as difficult as navigating the streets. There are no traditional street names or addresses. Wandering around is a treat on its own. You’ll find vending machines everywhere with adorable mascots roaming around.
Once you know where you want to go, you’re bound to get there quickly if you take the bullet train. They’re ridiculously fast, and so are their cleaning teams. Try visiting a restaurant for a truly unique dining experience. Compulsory appetizers come out before you order. You can then look at full-sized plastic replicas of the available dishes as you decide what to eat.
There’s also a cafe for every interest. Go to a maid or butler cafe if you want to feel pampered. Try a cuddle cafe if you’re feeling lonely. Staying in a regular hotel means missing out on all the oddities Japan has to offer. You can instead stay in a tiny but comfortable capsule hotel or a steamy love hotel.
Come during the holidays if you want a true taste of how delightfully strange Japan can be. Where else would you eat KFC for Christmas or get two Valentine’s days a month apart?

I lived in Japan 🇯🇵 as an English conversation instructor, through out the 1990's. Their Apartments are nothing like ours in America 🇺🇸. There's no central 🔥 heat or air, and it's really hot in the summer and really cold ❄ in the winter. No ovens or stove, only a gas hot plate. No showers, just a square tub. The tatami or straw mat room is cool. They have refrigerators, but no dishwashers. And really big spiders, not harmful but scary!
