    I am a high school football coach and a dad who is just now getting into softball for the sake of my 7 year old daughter. This video did a great job showing how possible it is to teach the pitching mechanics. While I acknowledge there is much much more to becoming great, this is a great place to start! Seeing some of the negative comments really bothered me. Nice job, Emily!

    This is a great day 1 video I can show my daughter. We are working these small steps slowly. If her interest continues, we can search out other videos. But with no knowledge at all i can take these basics and try to grow her interest into getting on the mound, where the action is!

    As a sophomore pitcher in high school when we have pitching practice we pitch up to 200 pitches. It's to build that strength in your arm up. And for this young lady I don't think she pitched 75 pitches one after another. She had drills to loosen the arm up and that's what throwing over handed is for throwing that many pitches will make her speed faster too. Great video, tomorrow is my frist day of coaching a 9year old.

    It's not safe for a girl to pitch 75 pitches in a day. You would probably pull a string in your shoulder and then wouldn't be able to pitch for about a week!

    • @toybonniebabe4447
      @toybonniebabe4447 9 лет назад +1

      False. I pitch 150 pitches a day, I've never pulled any muscles or strings in my shoulders. I pitch 65 MPH I'm 16.

    Thanks, Emily, for giving back to the softball community. I insist that all my students do that even when it involves 4th graders helping 2nd graders. These are life lessons that are valuable and I'm glad that you and so many other HS kids are willing to be great role models.
    You can look at my website if you like. I am not marketing anything as I am just giving back to the fastpitch community for the joy I have gotten over the years coaching hundreds of kids. pitchingmagic.info

    never teach a pitcher to throw with a straight arm. People who do this have no business teaching anyone to pitch.

    While I appreciate your efforts, to depict someone pitching strikes after 1 pitching lesson is totally wrong. You know yourself that there is no way possible to teach all of this in one lesson. It is fine for a video like this, but for those of us who bought into this when our child started lessons--it is very frustrating to us and slightly irresponsible on your part. Don't downplay all the work you did as a pitcher to get where you got by showing someone doing this all in one lesson.

    • @EmilyBard
      @EmilyBard  11 лет назад +10

      I'm sorry that you feel this way. I don't know if you weren't taught properly or whatnot, but it is very possible to throw a strike on your first lesson of pitching. (especially if you are an athlete and fast learner) All we focused on was accuracy rather than speed. As a matter of fact it is extremely rude of you to put down a little girls first attempt of pitching. I hope to god you are not a Coach. Thank you for watching.

    • @evasion37
      @evasion37 10 лет назад +1

      Emily Bard Agreed. An athletic 9 year old with some obvious skills already, can be taught to throw accurately. Also, why take it so seriously, it is a video, if she bounced a few, they probably edited it out.

    • @michaelgreenley1174
      @michaelgreenley1174 10 лет назад +2

      Emily Bard I coach 8U and I can attest that it is very possible to teach a player a new skill and have them showing extreme improvement in one day; pitching included. We currently have a 7yo who is simply a natural pitcher. She went from arching rainbows and bowling strikes when she knew absolutely no mechanics to throwing perfectly placed strikes simply by introducing a few basic proper mechanics. I am convinced that coaches are like teachers, in that, some get it through to the kids better than others. On the flip side, some kids pick it up better and faster than others. I'm always looking for new practice methods and I really liked your wall rotation and stop and go. Thanks for sharing!

    • @jrub6110
      @jrub6110 10 лет назад +1

      This is not a guaranteed success. We are not all created equal. She is just trying to help cut down on the learning curve by showing us proper training practices. Bottom line is, practice, practice, practice, no matter who you are or what skill level you have. She is trying to show you a better use of your time and effort. Some kids/ppl are just naturally gifted at things and i'ts easier for some of them, just like it is for everything in life. If they want it bad enough, they will work as hard as they have to to achieve it. Doesn't matter if it's one lesson, or 100. Nothing is a guarantee. But this is helpful, which was all it was ever meant to be.
