How will Brock Bowers fit in the Raiders offense

  • Brock Bowers was the best player available but the Raiders already have a highly drafted tight end in Michael Mayer. Was it worth it to pick him with a premium pick and how will it work in Luke Getsy's offense?

Excellent, as usual Ted. Think of him as both an upgrade from Hunter Renfoew as a slot reciever, AND incredible in 2 x TE sets

Covering him in man will be almost impossible i love how he destroys zones as well super smart player

If you have Davante Adam’s and this guy, someone is going to be open on every single play. That’s not to mention Jakobi or Michael mayor. If we aren’t a good offense, the blame falls on Getsy. I don’t care who the QB is, Terrelle Pryor could pass for 5k yards with this receiving group.

Not so much Getsy but they dont really have a deep threat to keep safeties in cover 2 which opens up the middle for the TEs. Tre Tucker has speed but will he be able to get off press man to get deep in time to be a threat?
Hes really small but would like to see how he looks after TC. If hes bulked up a few lbs it would be for his benefit as well as the evolution of this offense .

@@autumnwind1216 look how good Tre was his rookie year and that’s in McDaniels’ convoluted offense. he’ll be way better in year 2. Only thing he needed to work on was keeping feet in bound

Yes he was damn good from the slot but they need to keep 2 TEs on the field most of the time. Will he be able to get off press release when he's on the boundary outwide?

They might as well pair Brock back up with Carsen beck next draft

Good stuff as always, Ted. I think Mayer made big strides as a blocker pre-injury. Also, the flexibility to use Bowers, Davante, Meyers, Gallup, Tucker, Mayer and even Laube in the slot should lead to some confusion on D that Getsy can exploit (especially w/multiple players able to motion into/out of the backfield).

You spoke about Mayer needing to be a better blocker- but he is a better blocker than Bowers.
So both of them have to step up blocking capabilities a lot.
Running a 12 front (two TE) means less action from speedster Tre Tucker. If they can run a 12 for 25% of the plays and that only works if both get better quickly at blocking then it could work. Idk.

Appreciate you making this and breaking it down. Do you think aoc or minshew can push the ball down the field or are they gonna be stuck with short to mid throws?

Don't remember the long Tre Tucker passes last year? AOC can push it downfield

@mortis1634 I remember, it just felt like teams played us pressed for a lot of the AOCs games. Also one throw doesn't mean he is super accurate, just wanna know his take on if he sees growth there for next season

I hope he pans out. Every interview I see him in, he doesn't look excited to play for the Raiders. Still has Georgia on his Twitter.

People who covered him at UG have said he's never been a talker, soundbite maker, or vocal leader. He just practices hard, makes plays on gamedays, and goes home. That sounds fine to me.
