As a Penn state fan, you guys are the first to hit on it. Franklin treats some games like a practice which is crazy to say as this was a CFP game. But I feel he wanted to get good reps for the passing game. Our receivers aren’t elite so it can slow the offense down as Allar doesn’t have a lot to work with. Also important to keep some of the tread off of Nick and Allen. These guys have been banged up this year so want to keep them healthy. This is the best they’ve looked all year which I’m guessing is a reflection of their health. So I expect and hope the play calling to shift to a heavy run focus the rest of the way as these guys are the horses and pretty healthy.
Especially this year. They really let foot off the gas pedal a lot this year trying some different things when they know the game is over. They didn't run up the scores the way they usually did in years past
“A Growing Issue” - Only Penn State gets dumb headlines like this after winning. What’s even more idiotic is that they are in the CFP semis and getting a headline like this.
As a PSU fan, I agree on play calling being an issue. But once Abdul got banged up the entire coaching staff stiffened up. They have no backup RBs that are experienced, starting RT is out, and they need reps at the receiving core for these big games coming up. Franklin knew he’d win no matter what they did at that point, Boise scored the first 7 then they ran it the rest of the game
You're a tool to write what you wrote. Allar on numerous times in the red zone threw an absolute dime but our WRs can't catch any sort of contested passes unfortunately. Allar isn't mobile but his arm talent is undeniably there.
Hmm Singleton was bottled pretty well except for his one long run where he basically went untouched. That 58 yards TD was Singleton’s only touchdown of the season over 50 yards and his longest run of the year. Jeanty had 12 50 yard TD runs alone, and probably like 15 total runs of 58 yards on the season, with all but maybe 2 having as good of blocking as Singleton had.
Do any of you people understand what your babbling about??? Kaytron Allen runs hard and barely ever has a negative carry, but Nick Singleton is the home run hitter, and as a die hard Nittany Lions 🦁 fan, love them both!!!! Enough said
I know, I know, PSU got pass happy... We need to throw the ball to keep some kind of groove there. We're not OSU, we cannot turn the pass game on and off like a switch. Proud of them for winning the games in front of them, to-date...
Why didn't PSU dump it off to a running back after he chipped the blitzing linebacker? There was 10 to 15 yards every play. Could have given Allar a release valve!
Longtime fan, this group isn’t the same as years past. We don’t have an Allen Robinson, Chris Godwin, DaeSean Hamilton, KJ Hamler, Jahan Dotson or even Parker Washington. The guys we have now are more like Saeed Blacknall or Deandre Thompkins where they’re good players but they’re not high end guys who can get open consistently yet. I think they’ve improved some throughout the season though.
PSU isn't getting blown out by Notre Dame that doesn't have an air offense or Georgia with a backup qb....Name me a better receiver on Notre Dame better than Warren and I'll take PSU front 7 over both of those teams and by far the most talented player (Abdul Carter) will be wearing blue and PSU RB room> ND and Georgia RB room.
I have a question for both Joe and Ruffino. What makes ND and UGA better than Penn State? Imo Notre Dame and Georgia are literally the same as PSU and in fact Allar is the best QB that any of the 3 can field. Riley is not better than Drew. God knows Gunner isn't gonna be there. UGA and ND have 0 reciever options too. In fact PSU at least has Warren. All 3 teams run the ball well ( actually just PSU and ND) and play Near Elite Defenses. So it's wild take to say they're gonna get blown out. If Oregon and OSU couldn't you really think 2 teams with more deficiencies can? It's the most annoying thing hearing PSU can't beat either when they're all the same team different logo. For this year. Prove me wrong? I'll first agree with something that I think is an issue. PSU does get too cute at the wrong times. They got in their own way more than Boise. Maybe they're putting something on film? Idk I felt they didn't need to pass much to win.
If you're comparing PSU to ND/UGA, there is nothing that can possibly prove you wrong besides the outcome of the game so just sit tight, should be fun.
The thing is Penn st oline is the worse out of Georgia and Notre Dame lol and allar the least mobile. Georgia definitely have options they just don’t have no solidified true 1st round pick Wr or TE rn. Boise st was hanging in there with Penn st they just didn’t have no kicker lol
@Zachgotgainz no it's not lmao 🤣 bro what are you smoking! Uga OL is terrible. PSU and ND are amongst the best running teams in the country. Wake up. Check the stats. UGA can't even run the ball and have struggled in pass pro. Do you watch those teams? Know the stats or are you just going off prior years and logo.
Agree PSU should have ran more. Were they trying to show ND/GA that they have more to worry about than just the run? Not really sure and if that was the plan, it probably just reinforced to both that our rcvrs are mediocre at best.
Good commentary. I've watched PSU all year. Andy Kodeln. can be very good one game, and TERRIBLE the next game. We was NOT deserving of the "crowning" he got when he arrived at Penn State this summer like he was supposed to be a messiah coming to State College. He must stay at Penn State for 3 years and improve. Andy K is not good enough right now.
You can still give them auto bids but if they are not ranked outside of the top 5 at end of season, they don't get a bye. They just need to rank the teams based on the final CFB rankings which needs to be tweaked also.🤕🤕
The play calling felt like it was a job audition in the future. Like andy is coming back next year but it was a big stage and like a little ego said let me show the world how good a play caller I am. Instead of leaning into what was clearly gonna work.
Just as bad as CBS sports. Pennstate is not getting blown out. I think UGA has better depth roster and better coaches and probably would beat PennSt very close but blown out?
Shocker!, no mention from "SEC Rally-Boy Ruffino" about the ultra pathetic showing of those anemic SEC teams (Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, & Texas A&M) that he spent the last few weeks touting as formidable or whining about being left out of the playoffs. AT least he's still got that "epic" forthcoming match-up of the mediocre Ole Miss Rebels with the moribund Duke Blue Devils to cling to.
The offensive coordinator game plans as if psu is the underdog and needs to run trick plays and run when pass is expected and pass when running is expected. He cant comprehend or coach like he has a superior team. It almost cost them all year. Hes not a good fit for psu. Everyone new all they needed was to run the ball down boise states throat. All year i also believed that when kaytron allen was hot he tried using singleton more and when singleton was hot they would push allen. The offense makes no sense. When you saw allen and singleton gashing them he ran two straight qb options in the 1st half to destroy momentum
Penn state could’ve had 350 yards on the ground. They need to stick with what they’re good at. They cannot get cute against Georgia or Notre dame… they’ll lose by double digits.
True, everyone can have their opinions, but it usually is in a negative way against my Nittany Lions 🦁!!!! WE ARE, 27-17 my Nittany Lions 🦁 dominate the trenches against ND!!!! Enough said
I think they knew they could win but wanted to air it out to get practice in the deep ball. They realized it wasn’t working at stopped. But it wasn’t all allar. Receivers weren’t hauling the ball in. He threw dimes.
Blake can you please pronounce his name correctly AL ERRR. Drives me crazy. Joe, he was dropping balls into receivers hands and they can’t catch them. If he was at Ohio State he would be QB1 this year.
I dont agree with the wr stuff either. I dont think aller can throw deep at all. He does not make many throws he could because hes more worried about not throwing interceptions than throwing and completing a pass. Psu refuses to throw simple wr slants. 1 time to wallace a wr slant was thrown. Pribula was a better fit for this offense
Hehe just funny after watch NDs offense to even dare talk trash on PSUs offense. But hey ND won and a wins a win. ND will need to be much better vs PSU though on offense if want to beat them.
Yurcich got away from the run game too against OSU 2023. Common denominator - drum roll - Franklin. He admitted after the Illinois game he calls the high level game plan, stick with the run, time for a deep shot etc. The D under Franklin has been top 10 his entire tenure at PSU. He doesnt call D. But O, he has to meddle and it doesnt work. And he wants the glory so he sticks himself in during big games. And thats what leads to the head scratching.
They were working on things for the next games. They knew they could win just hand offs. Evans isn’t a great wr he just runs fast Wallace is a good route runner but he isn’t a Sunday player
Allar has no pocket presence? What he has one of the best sense of pressure in college football what are these guys watching but I agree they should have ran the ball.
I’m 78 years old and a Penn State fan since I was in grade school. In my humble opinion Drew Allar is overrated. I wish Penn State would have done more to keep Pribula and bench Allar. I know people will troll me but he proves every game that he makes bad decisions. Also not near as fast as Pribula.
Alar through 3 pin point passes to the end zone that could not have been better. I don't understand why they went away from the run game for awhile.
Penn State WILL NOT get blown out. Chill
Georgia/ND no they dont have the offense to score in bunches. A slow start or any rough spot against Ohio State they'll get blown out.
@@wad9799 You can say that for any team against Ohio State. 😅

You're a tool to write what you wrote. Allar on numerous times in the red zone threw an absolute dime but our WRs can't catch any sort of contested passes unfortunately. Allar isn't mobile but his arm talent is undeniably there.

But, …didn’t PSU win the game?
Singleton showing why he was the #1 RB in the same class as Jeanty

Kaytron Allen ran so hard too. Dude runs like his rent is due every carry 😂
I'd take Allen over Singleton any day.

As a Penn State fan we need to run the ball 40 times

Sorry to get off topic as PSU dominated this game but watching Texas! Wow SEC sure is trash in OT now vs ASU.
