  • Rescue miniature horse saved from auction! Steve say it so often “ no matter what the size of the horse or pony their equine brains work and react the same “. Here in North Carolina Steve demonstrates this by working with a miniature horse that had been rescued at auction . She ( Abbie) was skin and bone and petrified of people when rescued and although after years of living with caring owners had not got over her fears . Steve helps things move on another level here . There are so many golden nuggets in this video .Our Shop: steve-young-ho...

Little horses are often "treated" and treated like little dogs. The dangerous behaviors in big animals are labeled "cute" and rewarded until people "just don't know what to do with them". A dog is still a dog and a horse is still a horse and good manners in both is a safety imperitive. Discipline is not the enemy of fun and learning or affection. Discipline is often just clear communication. Thanks, Steve!

People need to stop breeding these dwarfs.
It's not genetically sound. These designer miniatures are often found at auction. They are run thru with horses and often get severely injured. Their only worth is the pennies they get from kill buyers.
When the novelty wears off the tiny horse has a longer lifespan than the average horse. Usually severely shortened by neglect and inexperienced horsemanship of buyers who think big dog instead of small Equis 😢

Marvellous communicator Steve Young. His understanding of how horses think is enlightening, his knowledge gained over the years and his flexibility with each one regardless of breed is heartening. Never anger or threat, he definitely needs an apprentice so we do not lose all his knowledge!

@@jeaninejones4382 I don't agree, there is nothing like personal experience, like he has learned over time. He is always reiterating do not do what I am doing just because it looks easy. He is aware ALL the time of how a horse is reacting no matter what anyone is saying , questioning etc, his full concentration is on what the horse is saying to him, which keeps him totally aware of the moment. This has to be experienced personally to be of real value and understanding. Just hope when he will be a wonderful mentor when he slows down a bit!

I really like the energy in a small package , they really react like horses , and they can be really funny when interacting with them , but we cannot forget it's a horse ;) I always have the an old saying in mind : "Horses fear everything that moves and everything that dont move " :D

Absolutely LOVED that, Steve and Tanya! Toooo very precious for words. What BEAUTIFUL little BIG souls.
What you say there, Steve, is soooo enlightening and true. I do wish the general English public would hear that and hopefully make them think. The 2 army horses did not cause chaos. Their instinct of flight is what they heeded to in the unwelcoming streets of busy London!! I'm following the little crumbs we get about Vida and Quaker. Most recent video is lovely. They are where they need to be and not on the streets. Not them. Anyway, I hope the army has learnt something and the public can be wisened to the behaviour of The Horse. Just LOVE your work

Can you post a link to that story & follow-up, please? I'm presuming that these are the two Guard mounts who escaped the exercise yard & went tearing around London. Terrible risk for them; good to hear there's a positive outcome.
Btw my family hss had American Morgans since they entered the workforce post-1789. I have a rescue now who has ignored all his cavalry/metro police/carriage antecedents' solid blood & is traumatized from years before. We're working on different job skills to see what he likes. Steve's experience is invaluable to us.
      Cheers.

Your videos are so easy on the eyes...... but so hard on the ears. I try so hard to listen to your every word, but just when I get adjusted to the (beautiful) accent, there's either a sudden drop in volume, blast in volume, or blast of wind (like do yall know there are microphones made to filter out wind?). This arena demo, well it's out of the wind, but I really can't make out more than a word here and there.
